It's like they locked the Korg engineers in a dark room with a Wavestation, fed them industrial strength acid and didn't let them out until they came up with a new toy. Have you watched any of the reviews yet? The majority of the controls have dedicated knobs and the menu diving is pretty minimal all things considered. I mean yeah it’s still gonna take some work but you phrased that as if it’ll somehow be harder than the original Wavestation.

When it was designed and trialed, a DX7 was literally sat on the bench behind it for half a year lol. Along with the original WS and several others. Licinius Varrus I guess we’re gonna disagree because I think the d-50 is one of the greatest synths ever made. But the WaveState is very much a real synthesizer and is honestly more powerful than the majority of synths on the market right now. It’s almost stupid how much it can do.

I ended up buying one - had it now for a few months. And yes, it is still a VERY complex synth to program. The dedicated knobs etc do make some of it easier, but there are endless pages of menu diving. It's possibly even less intuitive than the Wavestation IMO. Editing patches while playing is definitely easier, but programming your own patches is...interesting. Very happy to have bought it though...a superb synth, incredible depth and a real beast. Surprised at how old school it can sound too - the Wavestation was pure digital sounding, the Wavestate can sound very fluid and analogue when you use the oscillators, MS filters etc, then mix the fat sounds alongside its more digital nature and it shines. And the FX are a standout - so big and powerful I usually end up dialling them all back for actual mixing. It's harder in some ways than the Wavestation but it's infinitely better too. I haven't used my Wavestation once since I got the Wavestate. It really is a beautiful thing.

Yes, I know you can tweak and re-save, but when you're scrolling through patches, it makes them start to sound the same. There are lots of bright and punchy waveforms to be had on this synth - but you're going to have to work to coax them out!
