Fantastic video, literally taught me about shifting my weight differently than I've been doing for over 40 years! Its all about recentering not getting to your left side or right side, if you recenter and throw than you will get to your left on the down swing. You can you a trigger move at setup bumping your hips left than just recenter and swing your hands and club back which will get you to your right side, then with the club to your right you just recenter your weight then throw it around your body towards the target which will get you on your left side. Once you get the concept you can vary the tempo, you can swing hard and fast or easy and slower, or upright and steep or more horizontal and flatter.

I never could understand how Percy Boomer's 'swing in a barrel' could get any horizontal forces while staying within the barrel walls. Now I know!! Thanks Dr. Kwon! As always a fantastic video.

In 'On Learning Golf' (Percy Boomer) this info is rather hidden, imo. He writes about it, but the writing did not cause the desired effect for me. Percy Boomer differs significantly from Dr Kwon: he has no lateral shift at all, neither with the hips, nor with the shoulders. Both methods will have their own advantage. I managed to swing Percy Boomer style without any lateral shift only after watching 'Overhand Golf' - very interesting approach, top. Examples: He uses sheer forces of the foot, directed straight ahead, to turn the hips and thus has no lateral shift. He swings the club head into a curious direction (better watch his videos). Very cool swing 'feels' that make the club - and the body - just zip around. When taking both sources into account together, my club now 'swings' into a full finish on its own. Differently stated: Percy Boomer wants the club head to come low into the back of the ball. But his explanations how to get into that position while 'freewheeling' did not convey to me what needs to be done, thus no freewheeling at that point. However, 'Overhand Golf' thoughts about how a club was designed, and thus should be use to move, get me easily into the desired positions. So, like you, I did not understand Percy Boomer well. Maybe adding 'Overhand Golf' as a source will solve some of your questions about Percy Boomer as well.

Dr Kwon you're obviously an expert at generating potential energy in the golf swing ... do you have a system or principles for transferring of that PE to the golf ball as measured by Smash Factor ... maybe you've already answered that question with the full completion of the swing that you teach but I am curious if there are other factors that contribute ... thanks for all the content you make available on your channel

A lot of Manuel De La Torre in this. Stay centered, put the club over your right shoulder, swing the whole club with your arms over your left shoulder

Another great video, Brendon. Love these with Dr. Kwon (and Milo). Am I missing something, in thinking that the Dr. K swing drills (rope and various stages) do not seem to put one's body into the bent over impact position that I think I see on pro's swings down the line views? What am I missing here?
@cjhoffmn
@cjhoffmn 11 ай бұрын
I think its more of the timing, and feeling of the "Swing" of the rope - which helps your body conduct the swing, rather than your arms. You certainly can do the drill in a regular golf swing position, but what I've found useful from his drill is getting my body synced up to swing the club. Moving into club position is pretty straight forward after that.

I'd be interested in thoughts on Moe Norman's claim to fame - the single plane swing, now taught primarily by Todd Graves, why or why not and would you film a training session with him showcasing your attempt at the SP swing?

What do you mean when you say he can play? I've wondered that for a while, too. I've searched for videos of him hitting balls, but nothing. I would think that someone like him should be able to demonstrate what he teaches and that his shots should be much better than being able to play. It should also translate to the golf course for him. To me, it seems like he always folds his arms in the follow-through when he performs his exercises. I find it hard to believe his golf shots are powerful, highly consistent, and fully controlled.

@Stuart Alexander I appreciate the reply. Still wonder why he never hits balls on camera. I looked at some of his movements during a stage 3 exercise in another video and froze some frames. I saw casting, early extension, and an open face at impact when at address it wasn't. Maybe he was swinging carelessly at the moment. Still, it leaves me skeptical.

Stick with Monte, no turn, cast drill, simple and effective, and Mike Malaska, never seen so much nonsense, and your swing Brendan, hasn't improved one bit despite all these lessons with various teachers

I think you are right....from my own swing I know in an effort to get longer as I get older....I've got worse and shorter...now gone back to an old favourite the Gary Edwin rightsided swing...the polar opposite of this....weight on one side etc....now I'm flushing it again...not necessarily faster...just better

Honestly no one ever gets better when they get different instruction and are told different things to work on so often… I’ve been a + handicap since I was 15 and I’ve been working in virtually the same things since then also… different teachers but same stuff to work on
@richyclubsport5155
@richyclubsport5155 Жыл бұрын
@@robinc3307 I'm almost 70, currently 3.8 handicap, if my game goes off, back to Monte, feet together, no turn cast drill, soon back on track with a few balls hit, body follows. Probably why handicaps around the world haven't dropped, not surprised looking at all the nonsense taught on youtube, people head's are full of clutter and paralysis by analysis. Hands and wrists are 85 plus % of the power, same with any bat and ball game.

Y There is an entertainment factor with trying differrent things that I myself find is just part of my nature and what I like about golf. About 18 months ago I decided to just start with my own basic concepts and build my own idea of what a swing is. When you think about it, most of the great ball strikers built thier own swings from the inside out. That is what I now believe in. I think the personal exploration is the way to go and is also more rewarding than following someone elses system. Of course, that is informed by all the information I have collected from others.
