I love my Panasonic 24mm f/1.8. The auto focus works great for the type of videos that I make with it. I've never used it for stills. I think these sigma lenses are a better fit for stills shooters who want the extra f-stop and the sharpness of a sigma art lens. It's nice to have options.

It's kind of weird. I know of a lot of people who LOVE their sigma lenses for their sharpness, but for me, they look a bit TOO sharp. Then again, they shoot primarily stills, not video.

I like 20mm for static shots but once you start panning the camera in video mode the warping of space can be a bit unsettling. 24mm is better for moving camera shots.

Ummm, it all depends on how much you use your current 24mm. If you feel like it's something you would get a lot of use from then for sure. The DG DN is definitely more refined and has a lot of really nice features, but then again Sigma lenses have always been optically superb so I'm not sure how much of an actual difference visually it'd make

@@JoshCameron When I decided to go all in on Lumix (especially the L mount system) I decided to go for quality over convenience (because of Video AF on sigma lenses). So not the best decision for me perhaps, thanks for the reply. really enjoy your videos.

My AF Settings are: AF Speed -1 AF Sensitivity -3 and I use Human Detect AF mode :)

Well so far, no. the 14-24 from Sigma is good but it has its drawbacks and I do actually prefer the 16-35. But of course, there's the release of the 18mm 1.8 looming at the moment... I'm not too sure when, but that could be a great option!

Cheers mate - and i'm not too sure tbh. It seems like Sigma do a great job of covering all bases so I definitely wouldn't put it past them to make a 70-200 2.8 for the L-Mount. It just depends on how much of a market they see for it :)

great review! what are your thoughts on the Sigma 24-70mm EF with an adapter on the Lumix S5? the OS on the lens seems like it would be pretty great with the IBIS on the S5

As long as you're not hoping to use autofocus then I definitely can't see any issues with that setup. Of course, adapted glass always has worse AF performance, so that's why I'd recommend native if you were ever hoping to use AF. But otherwise I think that would make for a really good setup :)

I have two questions regarding your AF usage : did you change anything in the settings like increasing the speed of the AF ? And what AF Mode did you use while you filmed the "studio" exemple in which you get closer and then move away from the lens ? Were you using the Area+ Mode or the standard Human/Animal detection AF ? The video was great BTW !!

Hey Alexandre, so the Af settings I always use for my S5 are as follows: AF Speed -1, and AF Sensitivity -3. I didn't change the settings in this video at all. I always tend to use Human Detect AF too for talking shots since from my testing, that seems to work best for me :) Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

How disappointing again that they can’t figure out the video AF performance vs. Panasonics own. Such beautifully constructed lenses and the Aperture rings, coming from Fuji before.

I'm hoping they figure out something soon, but I think everyone is expecting much more from AF nowadays, so to be honest I think it's the entire L-Mount system that needs to catch up to what everyone wants to see

This has always been the issue with Panasonic when I was working with the Lumix team 10yr ago and it would come out of Japan being stubborn even when they were miles ahead of everyone on the mirrorless market share then. To be honest though, when it comes to Photos I’ve had more keepers with Panasonic than Fuji for sports. XT4 was always 50/50 hit and miss on the 50-140. S5 / S1 is more like 90/10 hit rate, but I’m not a sports specific photographer 🤷‍♂️

I would actually disagree. I use the Panasonic 24mm 1.8 all the time in AF mode on the S5 when I'm filming my talking shots, and occasionally for B-Roll too. Also, the Panasonic 16-35 has very good AF too. I use that all the time with AF :)
