I remember back in the day, picking up the Alien, Aliens, and The Abyss laserdisc box sets, and spending hours going through all the special features. I think my heart skipped a very long beat. I was mesmerized. You never forget that level of excitement.

Wow those have really been been preserved well. The artwork and supplements are lovely! I know Laserdiscs often have the most pure audio with some hiss and such. It's often less filtered

I know laser rot makes long term preservation an issue but they can at least be high quality digitally scanned, so there’s that. Always interested in this format but I have to many hobbies as it is.

Another great laserdisc collection Oliver, hope there is more movie special edition's from past titles in the future it has seemed to have slowed down, hopefully it pick's back up. Also any Denzel Washington commentaries or retrospectives to look forward to in the future, Crimson Tide, Déjà Vu, Man on Fire, Unstoppable that would be great. Thank you Oliver👍

Great adds! I just got the entire series of The Prisoner on laserdisc. I got a still sealed copy of the Jaws Signature Collection set a few years ago.... I don't think Jaws has ever gotten this kind of deluxe treatment on any other format.

When I grew up in the 90's, we never had Laser Discs, all we had is VHS.

LaserDiscs were almost mythic to me as a kid. At one of my school's b/wn 92/93, it was used as an instruction aid, but it only showed still images. So I did not believe there were LD movies.

Despite being born in 1975 I hardly knew laserdisc even existed during its commercial heyday. I didn’t know a single person who had a player and I don’t even remember seeing them for sale in HMV. As far as I knew videotape was the only way to own a movie.

I was lucky enough to grow up with a Bjorn's electronics nearby that rented laser disc and players. Watched all these fantastic movies that looked so much better than what you would find on cable with all these incredible cut and alternate scenes that no one at school would believe were a thing. Was so sad when they went out of business and sold off their stock and I didn't find out till after the fact.

Hello Oliver! Will you be receiving the 4k release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture-The Director's Edition? As soon as I read about that edition coming out in 4k, I kept looking for announcements for its release. Once Amazon had it ready for pre-order, I pounced on it, and am anxious to see it all cleaned up, and with the touch up of the new special effects (I am normally not a fan of added effects, but Star Trek was done correctly). Also, thanks to its release, I was able to purchase the 2-CD release of the soundtracks from La-La Land Records; I missed out on the 3 disc release, despite how long it was in circulation. Obviously, having the third disc would be nice, but at least it has the full score, album, and cues used in the director's edition.

I know this is an old video but I’ve only recently got a laserdisc player. The AI messed about with Cameron films are part of the reason. I’ve got that Aliens set that is known to be rotted and mine has a line at one point at the bottom of the screen also. The rest is fine (the analog tracks don’t sound right but the digital track perfect) tho so maybe that line isn’t rot.

Even the crappy movies on LD feel a little special... because there is no way they are on any contemporary format. The preservation aspect adds some... not specialness... but humanity to the bad movies. When it comes to the good movies, LD does something special to the experience. The format may be obsolete, but LaserDisc is not obsolete. The sound on LD is always magnificent. I have the Singapore prints of Batman: The Animated Series, and while watching one of the episodes the other day, I noticed the vehicles had terrific bass coming through the subwoofer. On the same note, Mask of the Phantasm has an incredible sound mix on LD!

Look at you show off the Silver Play button there. I still remember a few years ago when it seemed like despite the amazing and professional level of content you put out, your subscriber base was surprisingly low and just didn't seem to be increasing too much. Was there an incident that just made it explode or was it just reaching some threshold where your channel was starting to get spotlighted better? It really feels you went from sub 50k for the longest time to the over 200k you have now from out of nowhere.

I got the silver play button in August of 2018, so since then my sub count has doubled. I just presume more people have found my work and shared my videos. There is never a definitive answer as to way suddenly my channel gained more followers. In the grand scheme of things my channel is still small and what I do is quite niche I suppose? I don't discuss politics which some other channels do with their mix of movie reviews. It's clear people like that approach but it's not really my thing. My attitude is to share my love of films and educate those who want to find out more about their particular favourite movie.

I still remember when you were around 20-30k subs (maybe even less) and I wondered how you didn't have more because your content was so good and professionally done. I guess I have been a subscriber a lot longer than I thought. Either way, 200k is nothing to downplay. I would consider it a bit better than 'small' but nothing wrong with being humble and keeping things in perspective. Please continue the good work, I appreciate it and I know there are at least 200,000 other people who would agree.

I previously had those box set special edition releases of ''ALIEN'' parts 1 and 2 and ''JAWS'' PART 1. That's one of the reasons that made the 1990's so special. I even had the box set containing the director's cut of ''DANCES WITH WOLVES''.

Laser Discs? You want laser discs? I got about 100 of them sitting in their sleeves the past 15-20 years. Even have a working player. At least, it worked the last time I tried it. Even have the one with Jessica Rabbits private parts somewhere in the pile. (IF my lovely-young-bride of 37 years didn't sell it way back when. Gonna have to look now.)
