My parents have been in a loveless marriage for 35 yrs, and still use their kids (now in our 30s) to insult, berate and attack each other. Sometimes, they even use the family pets. They are truly #couplegoals 🙂🙂

The first amendment to this law will be for people with CPAP machines who still love each other. I guess the medical exemption could extend to snoring people, insomnia sufferers, and persons with sleep disorder. Those people would need to provide proof that they love each other, though, such as restaurant bills dated Valentine's day, photos, lovey-dovey Facebook posts, joint activities registration forms, etc.

This is nothing compared to how bad things were in the 50s. Loveless couples could only meet up in "special bars" in downtown St. Paul. Or find each other late at night, in special parks where they'd meet up for public nagging in the bushes. Sometimes the cops raided these places, so embarrassing for pillars of the community who got caught. Like Sonny and Cher, and Lucy & Ricky, and many many others.

In my husband's home country of India there's a push to criminalize interfaith marriages as love marriages, and the law stating that a person's faith is the father's faith was passed after he and I got married there even though I had added his faith to my faiths. Now I cannot visit without fear of being arrested for having gotten married there even though it was perfectly legal at the time. I understand that Indians prefer pimping...er, arranging marriages for...their sons for stud fees...er...I mean dowries, even though it's illegal under Indian law. Technically all marriages are arranged by someones, but why should arranging one's own marriage be abhorrent when one is clearly the most qualified person to do it? It seems much more abhorrent to me not to have the decency to love one's spouse. We love so many people in the course of our lives...heck, we even get to love pizza...so why not love our spouse? I'm sure our spouse wouldn't object.

I imagine a loveless couple going through this and finding out how important and fragile marriages are which then result to reconciliation and rekindling of the lost fire of love that burned within them. It might be an unrealistic expectation but damn does that feel kinda nice and sweet.

I personally do not want a loveless marriage, it’s just not my cup of tea. But I do support everyone who wants to stay loveless and not choose to break up. Everyone is entitled to individual rights by constitutional law. I don’t care what they choose to do in their household. That said, just don’t be so in your face about your lovelessness and/or try to drag me into it.
