In my husband's home country of India there's a push to criminalize interfaith marriages as love marriages, and the law stating that a person's faith is the father's faith was passed after he and I got married there even though I had added his faith to my faiths. Now I cannot visit without fear of being arrested for having gotten married there even though it was perfectly legal at the time. I understand that Indians prefer pimping...er, arranging marriages for...their sons for stud fees...er...I mean dowries, even though it's illegal under Indian law. Technically all marriages are arranged by someones, but why should arranging one's own marriage be abhorrent when one is clearly the most qualified person to do it? It seems much more abhorrent to me not to have the decency to love one's spouse. We love so many people in the course of our lives...heck, we even get to love pizza...so why not love our spouse?
