He got out to the short ball quite a few times even in the IPL. More importantly, he does not show an inclination to learn. Arm Chair experts, Mumbai lobby pushed him into the team. Mayank Agarwal is in the team because of his connections. Gill on the other hand looks composed, has his head not too big for his shoulders and listens to people. His backfoot play is sound and his technique is flexible unlike Shaw or Agarwal. He does handle the perfume ball quite well.

I think this win ranks with Perth 2008 and Durban 2011 as the finest overseas wins by India that I have ever seen. In those previous matches also, India came back from demoralizing losses to put up a full team performance and win when no one expected them to. Rahane delivered a true Captain's performance with the bat and as a leader. He was excellent. Calm and composed. As someone who has been frustrated by his performance in the last few years, I hope this is a start of his resurgence. But lots of great contributions. Gill and Siraj both making very promising debuts. Gill had a true baptism by fire against a red hot fast bowling attack and showed that he had the class for this level. Siraj showed his maturity and skill, replacing an experienced star and also made up for Umesh's absence in the second innings. Ashwin continues to show that he has the skill to perform everywhere. Bumrah continues to be lethal with the ball. And Jadeja delivered a great all round effort with the bat, ball, and in the field. India will hope for more runs from Pujara in the next two tests. Hopefully Rohit can finally translate his home test form to overseas tests. I'm assuming he will replace Mayank. I feel a little bad for Mayank given he has been outstanding in 2019, and I hope he isn't forgotten because he did score some runs in NZ as well. Hopefully Umesh is fit for next test. Don't expect any other changes. Australia need Smith and Labuschagne to fire, and Warner to give them positive starts at the top, because their batting looks flimsy. Their bowling is still outstanding. So I wouldn't count them out at all if those three batsmen start firing.

I still don't get it y such a talent like Ajinkya Rahane ws omitted from the entire squad for 2019 wc and for instance selectors took someone like vijay shankar inn (he ws taken to b an all-rounder tho but still). Infact ajinkya proved his mettle way before 2019. Such a class act-big match player shd always b preserved,Shd always b given long run, Shd always b backed up and b persisted with. Raina ws another victim of BCCI & I still don't understand Rohit sharma omission from initial test squad no matter how much they blabber with the so called fitness concern reasons.

@Gokul S AR played some low scoring innings and he was being blocked off the team..you can check his video in breakfast with champions..he was totally depressed at how his career was being mis managed due to the politics of two people trying to dominate everything from who should be the coach and who should play.. One because this toxic captain does not want anyone to be near his achievements and he is trying to breaks sachins record.. Even shaw was kept away for more than 2 years so that his age does not give him the opportunity to break those records.. Same thing with many other players..just because that toxic captain wins matches doesnt mean he is a great leader..but he has destroyed many a chances of what could be a good balanced team..by merit performance individuals working as a team.. Also ajinkya rahanes father met with an accident and it was bad press and that was almost a nail in his careers coffin..but he is back..and he is different..he is not the old rahane..he has worked on number of things in the absence and it is showing.. Last match runout was deliberate..he showed that toxic captain that a win can be without him Please observe the politics now..even RS was handled badly because he showed he is getting better but the toxic captain wants to be the one to break sachins records..he wont allow anyone else to.. He and his wife both are very very toxic people.. Character wins at the end of the day no matter what..vk toxic captain may score centuries but he has damaged something..AR got us back from that..

I said he would have counter attacked and stretched those 55+ lead instead of bonus and walking wicket of Prithvi Shah. 100+ to start with would have changed the game completely. Whole thought process from mind set to blunting the ball and taking it on would have come in picture. I m saying this bcoz he did the same during the practice game against second set of Australian bowlers who were moving the ball astonishingly. That game once Gill got out, India collapsed..
