I think there may be a hidden value on drill spikes as even before the dlc the blue spike thrower was great because it could knock down machines extremely fast, also hitting them in the legs will usually help knock them down, finally if you want to you can go for something like close range, long range, overdraw, etc. instead of dot as the dot damage does increase with the overall damage from the first hit, you could also go with a combo of knockdown coils to make it where the machines fall over almost immediately and you deal more damage to them because of that

I see what you mean. Maybe instead of a full 5 knockdown coils I would say 3 and 2 dot coils to maximize damage output and knockdown the machines.

The Elite Knockdown coil is a good choice for sure. I'm playing with 2 long range damage, 2 damage over time, and the elite knock down.

The graphics in this game never ceases to blow me away. This is easily the best looking open world engine out there, and it’s 60fps. I don’t know how Guerrilla does it while also filling the map with huge aggressive AI everywhere and tons of particles and detail. This game is gigantic.

Not Broken. It all depends on how You have Aloys Builds with each gear. I normally use the Spike that Explodes or a Mixture of DoT with Exploder Spikes kills machines far faster.

I came up with the fun build for most weapons thanks to this, you can either use tenakth vanquisher or any armor set with 2 elite low health ranger weaves, combine that with the rain of sparks maxed out with crit hit chance and it can go crazy, or if you want a more wacky thing with rain of sparks use elite berserk, instant brittle, instant corrosion, instant slowed, and instant purgewater/plasma/fire/shock and watch the machine get stun locked by the constant shifting of debuffs

I liked the drill spikes a lot in the base game. Problem is there are no legendary(or even epic class) spike throwers that have drill spikes. At least to my knowledge but yea this probably my fav new weapon along with the new blotblaster.

One of the salvage contractors gives the purple vindicator spike thrower that had drill spikes. But the usual use of drills were for knockdowns and the spinthorn drill spikes had extra knockdown power via a built in perk and just barely edges out the vindicator for pure drill spike usage

@@craigfunk3453 You are correct. I found that I actually do have this weapon. I recalled how it quietly became useless for me as I was never really worried about getting knockdowns. It was cool to use but got outshined by the shredder gauntlet due to the damage/tear.

It doesnt work that well on ULTRA HARD. Its a good passive attack once you have frozen enemy take a single shot(to get damage over time) then switch to boltblaster or sharpshot to do more damage until its frozen

Where and HOW did you get five very rare DOT Coils? Please tell us the locations as this is what makes this weapon so strong. I have completed the game and Burning Shores and do not have a single one, and the only vendor that sells them is from Arrowhead and you can only get 2 max. Please do not say that you used the duplication glitch as that is cheating and using cheated items does not make a weapon broken by any means. Where did you get them, please let us know! Thank you

With the dedication and focus on purely the main story you can tear through NG+ to get back to the burning shores rather quickly. And you can usually get 2 copies of any elite coil per run. Most just do the duplication glitch purely to not have to do several NG+ runs to mess around with all the elite coils

The fact that freeze elemental is the only useful thing fir damage in this game tells a lot about how braindead the design is.

Calling it "brain-dead" is silly because the game has a really solid combat system. But you are right, frost is far too strong vs other elemental types. This has been commonly noted - the effectiveness of other elements should have been buffed to make things more viable.

@@mcarr416ix frost is the go to strategy to deal damage in this game its not that its too strong or anything its just that the payoff from other elements is nothing, I might as well not use it at all (poison is okay) and you’d think that some machines may be immune to it but none are you can still freeze them. The gameplay becomes the same as the 1st game and its developers fault because they should have designed it so that thé players are excited to use other elementals but using other elementals feels like a chore and not fun and the only other way to play is traps so thats why its braindead, like you wanna give players so many tools but all of it pales in comparison to freeze and forget that if you hit any machines in this game without freezing them (except when you hit the weak point) you will do like 2-3 damage and thats not fun. The fact the entire game relies on slow aiming sucks cause good luck aiming weak spots consistently without it.

@@godaddy9837 I agree with a lot of what your saying and it's exactly what I said in my previous comment. Frost is too strong in relation to the other elements and the other elements should have been adjusted to be competitive with Frost. That said, all the combat doesn't rely on slow aiming (concentration). Shredder Gauntlets don't, Spike Throwers don't, Boltblasters don't, Warrior Bows don't, Blast Slings don't. If you're focused on Tearing off machine components with a Hunter Bow, or Sniping machines with a Sharpshot Bow, then yes, there's some reliance on concentration. The combat system in the game is fun, but there are improvements they can make, like the previously discussed element balance. Being able to mix and match base armor/weapon perks would also be interesting. The base of the combat system is well designed though, it's nice that the skill trees for example rarely offer any options that actually increase damage directly -- it's almost all utility. You get everything anyway, but possibly on Horizon 3 they should look at you having to go down a specific path in the skill tree only, this would lead to even more unique build opportunities.

Frost isn't as effective for explosive focused builds, and you could use corrosive as it gives extra crit chance and reduces plating defenses so it can work as a mini-freeze in an emergency or is very useful for shredders and the elemental shredders can hit rather hard

LMAOOO this ain’t Ultra Hard even with freezing the enemies and putting impact/blast coils you aren’t getting more than 1.5k in damage per shot the drill is good with impact/tear coils but you won’t be seeing high numbers.
