I must admit that the 35mm focal length is almost perfect for gatherings like parties and so on. But, for indoor use, a 28mm might be slightly more useful. It depends on the space. Personally, if I ever shoot another party, I think I'm going to take with me equivalents of 28mm and 50mm. You can do it all with a 35mm of course, but I think I would prefer some variety. However, you cannot do a wedding with just a 28 and a 50. You do need a tele zoom to get close-ups of guests at their tables and so on. Just IMHO. Maybe some of you have shot weddings with nothing longer than 50mm or maybe 90mm. If so, I can respect that!

35mm is definitely the king for street. It's ability to miss but not really miss for hip shooting is unparalleled. With my 50mm, hip shooting is very tough. It's doable, but when the light falls you have to go f1.4 and that makes hip shotting alot more difficult. I can get away with alot using a 35mm from my experience.

Hello. Really enjoy your video. I was hoping to put the APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 on the Hasselblad 907x and be my primary setup for both close up Food shots (0.3m), traveling (28mm equivalent), and portrait (F1.4 equivalent and crop a bit). But concerns about the vignetting on 907X/50CII and not enough DOF. Would appreciate any feedback with this setup

Hi Math! I'm certain that the APO is a superior lens, but I'm also certain that it would not produce better photos than my 1950s Summicron, at least in my hands. P.S. I once saw some photos of Zurich taken with a Swiss lens with extraordinary resolving power. The photos were difficult to look at. The precise rendering of every minute detail was distracting.

Always like your videos. Don't like that you always show the lenses with lens hood and lens cap on. Anyways, in this otherwise fantastic video you did not mention the newly designed lens hood and how much the APO 35mm covers the viewfinder with and without lens hood. Appreciate your videos because you always show what you are talking about. So many loudspeakers here on youtube talking about Cams/Lenses without even having them in their hands.

Next time you compare sharpness, do it at the same distance. Because when things are far away from the lens, you loose resolution. So of cause the APO looks sharper because the motive is closer to the camera
@c73w
@c73w 5 ай бұрын
You should have put the lens within the same range while using the two different lenses to show the difference in sharpness in 70cm and the focus in 30cm that would be much fair to present why the sharpest Leica lens and one of the sharpest in general in photography is way more better than the f/1.5 35mm simicron and semilux unless you need higher bokeh and entering light maybe

I’d get the 35mm. It’s a far higher technical quality and much smaller/lighter. It will have far greater usefulness especially owing to the focus distance which is 1m on the Noctilux which can be quite limiting, not close enough to get face or even head and shoulders portrait...

35mm lenses. They say they are the “If you could only have one lens lens” … but that’s exactly the problem with 35mm. It’s the best when there’s nothing else. But when you have a 28mm & a 50mm, then a 35mm is quite useless. Not wide enough, not narrow enough. It’s quite infuriating.

"The new apo 35 really is a superb lens." I am certain that this is true. However, Leica lenses are generally supeb, particularly the Summicrons, regardless of age. Please remember as well that resolving power, which you call sharpness, is actually less important than contrast. This has been demonstrated in tests of human perception.
