G'day from Australia I love your vids, they're always informative & chocker block with the latest innovations. We invested in Solar when Q-Cell panels maxed out at 245W, so it was a long time ago & we've enjoyed the reduced electricity bills ever since. People often dwell on the total payback time, but I don't see it as an issue, especially since the government's sell-off of our essential service electricity supply, to the lie of promised cheaper rates for consumers. Stay safe & may we all enjoy a cleaner world. 👍

LG didn’t increase the energy density. LG simply made the silicon wafers larger. LG 435 watt panels measure 1910x 1042 mm. SunPower A series modules measure 1835x1016. The inverse argument is also true. WHy not have a panel with more cells when you can use them? Better than wasting 6, 12, 18" on a roof when you can utilize a panel that is slightly larger. The market will decide if it is useful or not. If no one buys them, then they will stop making them.

Can you please mention metrics like Price/Watt and Watts/square meter, or Watts/square feet for your American viewers, as these metrics truly show the difference between panels, even from the same manufacturer. This way we can objectively know if a panel is truly more efficient/surface used than it's previous generation, or competitors. Simply making a panel larger and fitting an extra row of cells does not make it more efficient, as the cells are the same. Technically you could get a bit more efficient with a larger panel through a lesser conductor loss, but an extra row of cells should offer marginal improvement (way under 1%).

No thats an industry secret used to overprice and oversell customers.
@absolutejason3 жыл бұрын
It is only an industry secret for unethical salesmen who have watched Wolf of Wall St. too many times. It is a great question and easy to answer. Almost 100% of the finance companies promise great interest rate .99, 1.99, 2.99% but they bundle in high service charges into the loan which the solar companies pass on to the homeowner driving the price higher. Cash prices can be much less expensive depending on which company you are dealing with. because there are no loan fees. That is why sometimes pulling a home equity line of credit for existing home owners is a great choice or even bundling in solar to a new home purchase with the Fannie clean energy product is a goo idea. Stay far away from any solar consultant who would not carefully explain this to you. I know as a fact Joe breaks theses differences down for all of his clients.

Those exist, but prices per watt are so high there is no point unless you are making a satellite and instead of panel area you are looking at transport cost of thousands of dollars per pound. Concentrated solar is another option, instead of 1000 m2 of expensive panels you only need 10 m2 of more expensive panels and 1000 m2 of mirrors. Oh, and the motorized frames to move the mirrors so they reflect light to the panels. And a location with no clouds or shade because unlike PV panels which can work with indirect light, mirrors always need direct light. And a cooling system because the concentrated light heats up the panels which lowers their efficiency... Really, CSP is still way too expensive to be worth it when land in places like Nevada is so cheap that compared to the price of a million solar panels and all the work of building the solar farm the price of couple square miles of land amounts to a rounding error.
