I try to iron my linen clothes perfectly, then just don’t worry about the creases from wearing them. They are part of the linen look and all the other linen wearers out there get it. My tip: allow freshly-ironed linen clothes to dry before wearing. They dry fast and a fan cuts the drying time in half. Damp fabrics wrinkle ten times more easily than dry ones. For my tricky linen items like long dresses, I even iron in two sessions, allowing the first areas ironed to dry before doing the remainder. This really helps prevent the “chasing our tails” syndrome, wrinkling up just-ironed sections. I either do the double-thickness details first, as on a shirt the collar, cuffs and plackets, or for dresses, do the bodice/upper section, about to the waist, let dry, then the lower, skirt section. I’m lucky to have a small laundry room where my ironing board can stay up and my full-size steamer and fan can stay out. I also have a drying line and a drying rack there, but the space is really tight. An adjacent tiny room/closet holds my sewing machine and supplies. I spend a lot of my time there, it makes it easy to keep my wardrobe in order. I have all my laundry products, shoe care stuff, lint brushes, pressing cloths, etc. there, too. We made this “laundry room” by walling off one end of our long, narrow garage - the one where the washer and dryer already were. I didn’t want dirt or exhaust from the garage getting on my clean clothes and it’s one of the best home projects we ever did. We also put a fire door in the new wall to prevent any garage fires from quickly spreading into the house. (We once had an old car stored at my father’s garage and when he started it up, it and his house caught on fire. His insurance company sued us, etc., what a nightmare. Fortunately, the fire department got the fire out before it could burn through the garage ceiling joists into the main floor).

Washing linen clothes on the delicate cycle, with its slow spins, causes much less wrinkling than a regular cycle. The items might be sopping wet, but they dry fast, I just put a plastic tray under mine and air-dry with my big fan partway, then iron them damp. For those who don’t want to iron linen worn just around the house, using the delicate wash, then machine-drying on medium works pretty well for a more casual, slightly rumply look. (I do like to iron linen because it gives a smooth, soft feeling to the fabric). Adding liquid fabric softener to the rinse cycle dispenser helps a bit, too, but slightly reduces the absorbency of the linen. I always “finger-press” (shape with my hands), or at least shake out and stretch into shape, my clothes after washing. I don’t machine-dry my clothes unless to deliberately shrink a cotton item once or twice. My clothes really stay new-looking forever since I began doing this a decade ago. Of course, never machine-dry anything with elastic or Spandex in it, the heat will begin breaking it down immediately.

I love linen and don't mind ironing, so it works all summer for me. Been wearing it for probably most of my life. And definitely yes to linen and jeans. Yesterday, I wore dark wash crop jeans and a red linen button down shirt, and it actually raises the look of jeans. At least, that is my take on it. Thank you for all these ideas on linen, you gave me more ways to work it into my outfit.

Thank you, Kay. I do love linen. Yesterday I had on a pair of wide leg olive colored linen slacks and paired it with a billowy white gauzy shirt and when I came home, I looked in the mirror and realized I broke the cardinal rule of loose on the bottom and a more form fitting garment on top or vice versa. Yesterday was in the 90's and so humid I really didn't know what to wear to my Physical therapist on such a sweltering day, I wasn't in my right mind is my excuse. Too much flowy fabric, even though I had a caramel-colored skinny belt on and straw bag, it just didn't work. Oh well live and learn. But I loved your outfits. It gave me some ideas. Thanks again.

Here in Sicily, it's linen all the way. Linen jersey v-neck t-shirts with linen bermudas. When I wear navy, I add apple green accesories: that looks more interesting to me than traditional red. And with cream-beige-brown, I add lilac accessories (belt, bag, earrings)

I prepared for this summer like never before, everything ironed and hanging up neatly, ready to go...😂 I remain optimistic, though. Last year our hottest day was in mid-Sept! In summer, I only wear linen, even cotton gets too hot for me. This summer, for the first time, I have a good all-linen summer wardrobe. Mostly I have linen dresses, skirts and tops in neutrals and my basic colors, but I also added a few printed linen items, including one printed dress and one each printed skirt and top set and printed shorts and top set, to give me extra options. I think it’s working very well and I have enough selection now. I justify this largish linen wardrobe to myself because hot summer weather lasts at least five months where I live, earlyJune through the end of October. May can also be hot, we had big heat waves in both April and May this year, so I wear these linen items almost half the year. I would like to find a couple more linen sweaters, but there aren’t that many around. From California. Thanks for the video❤

Good morning, Kay. I totally agree that linen is such a durable and breathable fabric for the spring/summer months. I don't mind the wrinkles, but I try to use my steamer before I go out and about. I wore a navy linen sleeveless dress with a cotton cardigan draped over my shoulders last night for my grandson's eighth birthday to one of our favorite pizza parlors. It's such a comfortable yet chic look. You have provided some great ideas to mix textures. You look fabulous in the neutral outfits that you presented. I recently purchased the white linen hooded jacket from Talbots and it is currently on sale. Love it with jeans and other casual cotton pants that I have in my wardrobe. I purchased a blue and white toile de jouy print linen button-up shirt at Marshall's this spring and have worn it with navy chino shorts and white raw-hem jeans as well as white shorts but I think it would go well with a lighter wash denim or even traditional beige chinos. Also have a white linen button-up shirt from Talbots which I wear over a black tank top and dressier black cotton pants that works well, too.

I am not crazy about ironing, but from my early age my mom thought me that lady doesn't go out wrinkled. But with linen you kind have to 😅. Linen fell so nice during summer heat, right? It's just so comfortable and stylish.

I love wearing linen and never worry about wrinkles. I will usually steam the item before wearing or sometimes I will spritz some water on my linen pants or top and dry on low in the dryer. As I wear them during the day, though, let the wrinkles fall where they may.

I love wearing a black linen vest with my high waisted wide leg jeans. Of course now it’s too hot for anything denim. So my vest goes well with my shorts 😊
