Uplifting update for Electric Vehicle owners because the dream to power their vehicle for more than a thousand miles on a single charge is being actualized. Researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory have developed a lithium-air battery that could power electric vehicles for longer miles and could one day power domestic airplanes. The main new component in this lithium-air battery is a solid electrolyte instead of the usual liquid variety.
This video breaks down the technical jargons and explains what this means for the average EV owner. We further do a deepdive into the classes of Lithium batteries: Lithium-ion and Lithium-air batteries. We highlight how the new lithium air design is better than Lithium ion and the previous lithium air batteries.
