Yes, the USB port can charge devices using only the battery as the power source.

It’s an attachment point for the removable AC power adaptor. Rather than having to carry the adaptor in a separate hand, you can attach it to the back of the radio.

I have a slightly different model that does *not* charge the LXT batteries with AC, but it will charge a USB device using the LXT battery (or AC). I don't expect it's any different with this one.

kind of a downgrade from the DMR113/5 in terms of audio, they have smaller, less powerful speakers and lack the woofer. but charging is cool

G'day mate, I'm only interested in the sound quality and bluetooth capabilities - don't care about charging (or radio) - would be running it from a DAP via either 3.5mm jack or BT connection, 18v only. So would you say that the DMR113 would be a better buy for me (esp at $85 less, atm)?

Very disappointed to find the adaptor for the charger is not built in. Oh, yes, but there's a button/knob at the back you can hang it off. Built in is better, doesn't fall off or get knocked about. Also, really gutted that it wont take my Makita drill's battery. Every time I ask about Makita I keep getting re-assured I don't need different batteries and separate chargers for their machines.

There might be a small square ish nipple in where you slide the battery in , just chip that off with a hammer and screw driver. Now all you Makita batteries will fit.

@@Peter-yn8uy Thank-you. There is indeed a square lump on the inside, where the bottle opener is anchored. It seems to have the function of both being able to have the bottle opener there at all and also it serves to gently hold the battery in position so it doesn't rattle off during transportation, like what might happen where there are a lot of potholes. It's held in place by a screw so no need for a hammer which would almost certainly result in a splintered and broken housing with cracks and maybe even a great big hole and the bottle opener will have no where to be fitted into. You'd think they'd have given priority to ensure the practicality of having an in-built adaptor instead of the bottle opener gimmick. Luckily, the engineers responsible for other Makita products aren't such morons. There used to be a Matabo site radio which did have an extra external socket so you could use the radio to run power through for other equipment. It didn't have a USB port , Bluetooth and didn't have DAB either, though on that point, the Makita radio tells me that particular service is "unavailable" I haven't tried the USB or the other port. In contrast to the idiot design whereby you have to hang the adaptor on the outside where it's even more likely to fall off, get damaged and then maybe also lost in the darkness of winter, that Matabo had a fixed cable and hooks to wrap it around the radio along a moulded grove, everything else, like the adaptor was in-built, out of sight, you wouldn't even have to think about it, and it had a green light on top which lit to say you had power and would flash continuously while the battery was charging, that way, you'd know at a glance from a distance if it was ready. But, no... no, no no ....they had to put all their brainpower into adding a bottle opener.

Makita radios suck, I'm a die hard makita fan too it's the only tool brand I'll buy. But makita radios are years behind! Don't buy it they're terrible. Milwaukee makes terrible tools but they have the best radios on the market
