@@EmmaxoOCE an OW battle pass is normally $10. So with this battlepass being $5 we're pretty much getting half off. And yes what the other replys are saying is true this $5 battlepass is only for season 0 of rivals. It'll then presumably go back to the standard $10. However, the difference is that the battlepass will still be available for you to complete even after the season ends.

Fr, they sold that pre order pack for 15 for a free to play game as an option to support the game, and I bought it. Now 15 dollars isn’t much, but they ended up reselling those exclusive skins and everything and cancelling pve. It just felt like a major slap in the face and that’s when I kind of realized the reality of modern overwatch

I'm not too optimistic about a game made by a Chinese mega corporation and Marvel to be the anti-greed pro-consumer savior. More likely they're just trying to steal customers with low prices before raising them. The inevitable overtuned character’s stats will reflect their performance and solidify (and probably amplify) the community outrage at that hero and its players. Get what I’m saying? Like say if thor has the best win/pick rate at high level, people across all ranks go like “see we lost cause they’re playing thor op hero” or something. A game is never fully balanced in a way it pleases everyone and public stats allow people to poke at devs more, I honestly don’t see how this is a positive tbh

Everything BESIDES the battle pass is free currency. You can swap paid currency (lattice) to free currency (units) to purchase anything else. As far as we know, units cannot be swapped into lattice

Bundles and skins in ow are kinda useless since its in first person. Edit: To an extent I agree at some pros of having cosmetics like skins in a first person game, but imo I play both first and third person games that I feel like buying a skin unless it's a weapon skin is unnecessary in a game like overwatch or something like COD to me

Who's looking at their skin while playing in 3rd person tho? I've played many 3rd and 1st person games and skins have always seemed to have the same value to me, tbh I tend to like buying skins in 1st person games more because they have wep skins which impact my visuals more, while I feel like my brains trained to ignore my character in 3rd person games, so I've never gotten when people say this. I mean great example is how I feel off when i swap my skin in ow but in warframe or dark souls I swap my entire look on the regular and never have issues like when I swap my echo skin in overwatch and feel I'm performing worse because my hands shaped differently 😂 Don't get me wrong tho, marvel rivals is gonna sink overwatch, just this argument is more personal preference.

​@evandunn9942 At this point, I don't think bringing back 6v6 will be enough. A majority of the OW2 cast are bland in their ability design and rarely do anything to push the envelope, if at all. ALL the characters in MR from what I've seen do some CRAZY stuff AND look fun! They ACTUALLY care about people having fun! Blizzard has sooooooo much they have to change (drastically so) in order to even come CLOSE to MR at this point. They'll either FINALLY change for the better, or they'll sink.

My big worry about the "vote with your wallets" mentality is that there's very much a world where it simply doesn't work. Especially after Microsoft has already shown they're willing to lay off so many people, what reason would they have to invest more into a game when its performance starts to tank? This is an apples to oranges comparison, but look at Mortal Kombat. The DLC didn't do numbers and now Warner Bros is cutting it off. I'd love for Marvel Rivals to be a kick in the pants for Overwatch, but I'm afraid it's going to be more of a nail in the coffin.

Accusations and claims aside, this game coming out is gonna be an important check for Overwatch and will FINALLY create a form of competition making the Overwatch devs have to work harder and make better decisions since they finally have someone competing for the attention of hero shooter fans. Im excited for this game and equally excited to see how (if at all) it affects decisions that Team 4 makes with Overwatch (hopefully for the better all around).

I love MR, but why are we lying here. Those were individual bundles which are the same amount as OW you gotta buy the $20 currency to get a 1 person bundle. The multi bundle that they have so far it was shown and it was about $45 discounted price for 4 heroes. OW is $50 for 5. The BP is $5 because S0 is 1 month. The rest is gonna be the same or more than OW. They even mentioned that in the blog it is nice it can be completely whenever, that is the only plus they have on monetization.

You've misunderstood the bundle pricing and misinformed all your viewers, that's $24 for 1 legendary skin + the extra random stuff. This pricing is nearly identical to every other f2p game out there, ow included. If the business model can’t turn a profit on its own then it’s a sink hole and a company as successful as Disney wouldn’t bother to keep it alive. They just aren’t as greedy and have fair pricing with a solid amount of content in the bundles which is really awesome to see. My biggest concern for the future is that a lot of games have shifted most of their effort to making skins and get lazy with game content and improvements because all the money is generated off skins. I hope they keep consistent in genuinely improving the game. I feel like that’s one of overwatch’s biggest downfalls is for a long time it’s just been “look new skins, look a new collab!” And the game itself is feeling stale. Marvel has the perfect recipe for success considering that they have so many characters already designed that just need to be implemented so the content potential is almost limitless. That battle pass is WAY cheaper, but the skin bundle is about the same as OW. Unless this Legendary bundle has more items, which there's not an indication of anywhere, $24 is about the price of a standard legendary skin bundle in OW. It would be cool if it is easy to earn free currency because it's very slow in OW, taking multiple seasons to get just 1 legendary shop skin

I'm happy that people are excited of the game, but the monetization is practically 1:1 to Overwatch monetization. It says clearly that lattice can be exchanged to units, not the other way around - similarly, you can waste premium currency in OW to purchase things you could buy with the "free" credits. 24$ for a legendary skin bundle (containing 1 skin and extras) - the cat skins in season 13 OW cost 19-25$ each, so practically the same. The 60$ bundles Samito mentions in the video are these megabundles that contain 4 legendary skin bundles in one, they never were the price of a comparable single skin bundle. Bought separately, those 4 legendary bundles would've cost over 80$ - and inevitably, in the future, Marvel Rivals will also offer these kind of megabundles for "extra discounts". Regular season battlepass price is 10$, same as OW, and it's clearly stated that while you get some lattice from the BP, the primary acquisition method is purchasing - same as OW, don't expect to buy one BP and then play free forever. The battlepass itself seems to be much more player friendly, apparently allowing you to pick the things you want in the order you want, and allowing you to get them after the season, too. And it is great that there is some proper competition in the field. Just don't expect the monetization to be any less money-hungry, because it isn't going to be. It's another F2P game, from a big corporation who's in it for the money. Keep your expectations in check and have fun all!

So far, the only dowsight i see is that battlepass isnt pays off in terms of premium currency. It gives 300 over 490 spend. So it will give aproximatelly 600 over 1000 spend in future. Kinda sad

Samito made a great point. Even if you LOVE overwatch, you should be excited about this game because competition will force them to be more consumer friendly. For too long OW has had a stranglehold on the hero shooter market, allowing them do whatever they want. Once people start making decisions with their wallet, supporting and playing Rivals instead, OW had a greater need to appeal to the consumers.

That's the thing I like about Helldivers. Even though I don't dump half as much the hours I do in OW, I can come back & still get every war bond on my own time. OW2 just isn't worth the dime, I've only spent 5usd since OW2 released & have gotten the BP for free basically ever since. Im excited, but i still miss the monetization of OW1 where you could work for everything -- except special skins like breast cancer awareness mercy, etc. I know it needs to make its money, and i fully respect that, but I can never be happy to look forward to being bled dry if i want skins. Still, better than OW2, not that thats a high bar. Just hate that such monetization is so normalized now that we cheer getting stabbed by a smaller knife. Am I the only one who see that they are doing the most obvious thing they should? They do exactly what you have to do when you enter an area where there are some established competitors. I'm not saying that Blizzard arent greedy, but I think it would be fair to compare them after some time. Btw the games have many things in common, but still at the same time they are kinda different. For example, you have headphones, but some advertisement offers you another, cheaper ones, which, lets say, have a built-in radio. Would you choose them only because of these factors and throw your headphones away? I assume you wouldnt. I think that Bliz are too slow with response on community criticism, but still I cant say that the game that have different graphics, different hero roster, different mechanics is the GOAT comparing to OW. Its just another game, like Valorant or Deadlock or any other, IMO. But I hope that Rivals will make Blizzard think again about whether they still need their players base or not. The prices are very similar to overwatch prices, idk what math samito was doing when he was mind blown going like "half price!!!" Did he compare a marvels legendary bundle with 1 skin to an overwatch mega bundle with multiple skins? I like how ow was being deemed preditorial for hiding skins in bundles to get players' money, and with marvel's usage of bundles in the same way and even same prices range no one mentions it. I also looked if u can buy a skin from a bundle seperately without the bundle, only for the purple tier u can, you cant buy the legendary tier seperately, only in the bundle...something people heavily hated ow for, are we gonna talk about that? There is a 45$ bundle containing 4 purple tier skins that u cant buy seperately, so if u only want one of those skins, you have to pay 45$. Is that better monetization? The only difference I see from the battle passes is that you can finish marvel's bp in future seasons as well, thats really cool. But lets not act like marvel is the god sent heroes of monetization when they literally copied ow's monetization as well as many other parts of the game...
