you would think for the reason hasbro got their disney license taken away, mattel would make the dolls way better. and then also rapunzel and elsa look horrible and horrifying-
@AlvaroIbacacheS2 жыл бұрын
Maybe the license change wasn’t for making better quality products, it can also be because Mattel offered Disney a better deal in royalties for the dolls, maybe a better distribution, better marketing money. I don’ know but maybe Disney would get 15% of the money Hasbro did with the princess line and Mattel offered them 20% or 25%. Disney knows exactly what kind of basic dolls mattel was doing with the Barbie line. They know if they went with MGA they would get super quality products at insane prices and probably not a big profitability for Disney.
@psychotophatcat2 жыл бұрын
I'm almost wondering if they're being told how to make the dolls by Disney itself? Like the weirdly specific similarities are a bit uncanny, like the clear glittery plastic layer over the tops, the moulded tops in general... Maybe the dealbreaker with Hasbro wasn't the quality, but the fact that Mattel shortchanged Hasbro's renewal offer.

I think the reason why these dolls have limited articulation and molded/painted on fashion is because these contracted companies probably can’t legally make better designed dolls than the Disney store dolls. I assume they’re only allowed to if and only if it’s an inspired series like the Disney style series from Hasbro.
@shadows64112 жыл бұрын
But who knows if Mattel will do a similar style series since Disney doesn’t like competition and Mattel doesn’t like wasting money on quality products especially on licensed products. If they don’t improve the quality on their own brands like Barbie, they definitely not going to change the quality for Disney princesses.

@ChadMarvelous2 жыл бұрын
People keep blaming Mattel for the budget dolls that are meant for kids having molded on and painted on tops, but really it's Disney that is wanting these dolls the way they are. This is obvious because these dolls are basically the same as what Hasbro was putting out at the end (and you can still find on the shelf right now). If you want nicer Disney dolls then you have to get the Disney store versions, and this is no accident. Disney does this on purpose, they always want their own version to be the best quality. Also, if MGA did the Disney princess dolls they might be a little bit higher quality but they still would be less than the Disney store classic dolls. Also, they would all have the same face sculpt and body mold, because that's what MGA does to save costs, but I really don't think Disney wants to go that route given the controversies they've gotten in the past surrounding diversity with the princesses. (Of course this is all just my opinion).
@RafaelRomerodelaRosa2 жыл бұрын
There's a rumour that the low quality in almost all Disney Licensed merch, is due to all the drama and crisis going on inside the Disney company, and the fact that to get a project approved at disney is a hot mess of steps with all the boards you have to go to get something actually approved... Now they are losing against Universal in the Parks realm with the Epic Universe project, the Beijing Park and the Texas park they just announced yesterday. I'm still thinking this quality is more a disney thing than a Mattel not putting effort.

At least with the Mattel dolls, Pocahontas and Jasmine are darker-skinned whereas the Hasbro dolls make them look super light-skinned. Mattel is literally KILLING the Disney Princess doll industry, not "killing it" in the slang way. "Jasmine Cyborg 265." This is why I favor the DisneyStore Disney Princess dolls because I NEED ARTICULATION! I LOVE the fully-poseable dolls cause there's so much more ways to play with them. I hardly ever get the Mattel princess Barbies. And since MATTEL is the one who makes the Made-to-Move Barbies, I don't see why they can't just do what they normally do with regular poseable Barbies and have THAT articulation on THESE dolls. Is that so hard? What he said about accuracy of characters that wear flats in the films, that's one of the reviews I saw on the 2013 DisneyStore Elsa classic doll; someone's young daughter complained that Elsa's shoes were just teal flats and not fancy high heels like in the film.

I feel like there was a decrease of quality in Mattel dolls since 2015-2016. The Monster High reboot (which, let's be honest, had a cute animation style but the dolls were just... let's say they were interesting...) (pretty glad they rebooted the reboot and now they look infinitely better), the Ever After High ''last dolls'' (change in faces, no articulations, modled on clother), Barbie (more diversity, but less articulations, less ''original designs'') and Disney Princesses (even the Frozen ones seem different idk why).

I don't play with toys anymore but dolls were a huge part of my childhood. My favorite thing to do was to dress the dolls up in different clothes and create crazy stories for them to be a part of. Some of my dolls had plastic hair, but they usually had removable fashion. Kids need toys that will help stimulate their creativity like the toys of my childhood. No more plastic tops and cheap everything. The quality has really dipped and even as a child, many of my toys were from the Disney Store because they're quality was really good for the most part. When will Mattel return to an era of good dolls? The classic Barbie movie dolls from the early 2000s were great and the Disney dolls from the 90s (never owned any because I was born in 2002 but I wish I owned some) and early 2000s were too. Ever After High was perfection during the first generation, so was Monster High. Removable fashion needs to come back. It's more fun to play dress up rather than keep the doll in one outfit forever. I hope Mattel improves and gives us all good quality dolls once more.

I guarantee that if they actually put some time, effort and money into these dolls, they would sell 10x better. I loved my Mattel Disney dolls growing up! The ones from the early 90's were so nicely made and just gorgeous! So I was excited to hear that they were going to make the Disney Princess dolls again. My daughter recently became obsessed with Frozen and wanted her own Anna and Elsa dolls. I got the two new Mattel ones for her since they were the only dolls I could find that were dressed in the Frozen 1 outfits (which I love). They're very pretty dolls but she hates that she can't change their clothes. It's a shame that Mattel decided to go with the plastic tops. It makes them look very cheap and it's really no fun playing with dolls when you can't dress them up. Anna's outfit especially would be gorgeous if they went with cloth instead of plastic.

We have all the princesses, and my daughter plays with them in the tub, when she plays with her dollhouse, she uses her good dolls. I think if Mattel was smart they would make removable, good quality clothes, that have realistic details, because adults as well as kids love that and would be very interested in buying them. The reason mini brands fashion and Rainbow High accessories surprise boxes were, ARE, so popular is because of the realistic details, the higher quality, and ability to use them with any type dolls
