Hey Dan and Danielle, Dan, this is a little trick I use to do when I changed oil. I would take a screw driver and punch a hole in the bottom of any oil filter and let it drain. That way you don't make a mess or have it go down your arm. Just a little tied bit for you.
@michaelyarmie48582 күн бұрын
I had a 78 Caprice 4 door. Old man car bought it with 35,000 miles on it. One of the best built cars ever. Most reliable low cost maintenance. Not to bad on gas for what it is. What you're doing to yours is awesome.. They driive like a dream. Too bad they weren't all wheel drive.

I bought a used 65 Impala 4dr sedan with the 283 Powerglide P/S and A/C but standard drum brakes/ It had a little over 100,000 miles and. it was in need of everything. The body was in fair shape and with some work I got it into a good driver. Of course I used whatever parts used that I could find for it, but had I put some real effort and rebuilt all of the items that needed done it would have made a good car. It actually rode very well out on the open highway and there are times I wished I had kept it. Now the 65 Impala did not have the heavier suspension that the later one's had (I believe in the late sixties or early seventies they had the heavier suspension and five on five wheels ( mine had the 4 and 3/4 bolt pattern like a Chevelle). The car had all of its pieces and the body was not rotted out, it would have made a good resto project.

You go Danny and Dan you two kids have it figured out but Danny knows a hell of a lot more than she shows not many other than old school mechanics know about turning it to the left to to find where the bolt drops into the thread lines up on the oil pan drain love watching you kids
@billywirdКүн бұрын
Yeah I learned that a long time ago, keeps the cross threading demon away. Best to thread by hand as much as possible. I have seen people cross thread fasteners trying to save time and unless they just jam the fastener in (it'll be the next guy's problem) they lose time having to repair a cross threaded part.

Miss Dani, Dan should've explained to why you should check your automatic transmission fluid while the engine is running because when the engine is off, a significant amount of fluid drains back into the transmission pan, giving you an inaccurate reading on the dipstick; with the engine running, the fluid is circulating throughout the transmission system, providing a more accurate level indication.

Yo Danny - It's Georgina on my hubby Steve's sign in. We're having a good time watching you two as usual. No wonder Dannie was careful stuffing that HUGE boat into the garage thru that narrow door. We used to have a similar '81 Impala when we 1st dated. Great that you got Dannie to pop her oil change cherry LOL She did a great job of the oil change - a rockstar lube tech in no time, but she had you to point the way. Maybe next time though, you could crouch down a bit while watching her do something under the car, and have the lift adjusted to her height so she's not on tippy toes.

When I was younger and had more energy (and also less responsibility) I washed and waxed my ride every weekend as well as doing the interior and glass. I used Turtle Wax as it was quick and easy and it kept the finish maintained. Of course as I have aged my enthusiasm has waned and the outside of a vehicle is not so much a priority (and there are other chores that need to be done as well) This car is a driver and keeping the finish up with washing and waxing will keep it clean and protected. Granted the places up on the front end could use refinishing the rest of the car seems to be in fair shape as far as the paint goes. Overall the car looks to be in good shape and is the last year for that particular body style as the 1990 Caprices totally changed in body style (looked like a Hudson updated and were coined "upside down bath tubs") A friend of mine bought a 1991 Caprice new and it served him well and he gave it to his daughter when she started college. That's a good car and it will give good service. Forget the shine juice just keep it cleaned up and polished. I'm not a big fan of excessive undercoating, mt Dad bought a 77 Chevrolet pickup new and he had it undercoated and the problem with that is if it is applied too heavy the undercoating will dry out and flake off creating pockets that will hold dirt and guess what the truck is rotted out but everything else is good. Lightly spraying that product you used will probably suffice and if you keep it cleaned out underneath the rust will be abated. Dani did a good job.🥸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
@garyhill16592 күн бұрын
Do you self a favor, when pouring out of a gallon jug turn it spout up so that you can control the flow better. Plus do as you like using Lucas all treatment . Take if from someone who has been in this game twice as long , maybe even three times as long that junk will cause more problems than it helps. Such as oil being so thick on cold start up that I've seen oil shafts twisted as a result. Also it will cause oil starvation do to oil so thick that it won't wick threw filter and strainer. Now if you lived where your temperatures where 70deg or above then I could see some benefits to using it. But till then you may want to really consider why your using it.

We bought a 88 caprice in 1992 with only 26000 miles. I had issues with the distributor at about 50,000 miles. There is a metal screen on the bottom that is supposed to allow it to breathe and keep moisture out. The screen was blocked up with dust from gravel roads and moisture built up on the wall of the cap and it started misfiring. Easy fix but something that should be looked at. Ours had the 305 and still a carburetor but was a great car. With the automatic overdrive it got decent mileage especially with the national speed limit of 55 mph.

Watching you guide Dannie on the hoist broght back some memories. I was guiding our oil change kid on the hoist. I put up my hand and gestured for him to stop. Nope. He gave it full throttle and came off the hoist and hit me. If that wasn't bad enough, he pinned me up against a brick wall. I don't remember too much about what happened . Other than yelling for someone to take me to the hospital. I won't go into details about my injuries, other than the doctor saying that I may never walk again. Well I fooled them all. Within 6 months I was up walking with my cane or a walker. This happened in 2009. That was pretty much the time when I retired from the trade. I was 49. I always wanted to retire early. That just isn't the way I was planning it.

I was told that the modern engine...hardened valve seats..does not need high zinc oil. Because zinc plugs the catalytic converter since late 70's..but I guess also that is likely a tbi engine but still could have flat tappet cam shaft..so some zinc maybe a good idea...who knows..lol
