In this video I have the new for 2020, Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax in hand for an in depth review of my first impressions for the product. I'll show you a baseline water behavior result, a first person view of its application to the paint, and a chemical resistance test against Poorboy's World Strip Down. I'll also compare it against some of the Meguiar's Ultimate waxes, and perform a topping test using the new Hybrid Ceramic Detailer against Ultimate Quik Wax. If you're interested in trying any of the products that I test, check below in the affiliate links where you can purchase them directly from Amazon:

Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax is the newest addition to the Meguiar's sio2 (silicon dioxide) consumer line, this is one of their most durable protectants that you can pick up over-the-counter. Safe for use on paint, plastic trim, vinyl decals, racing stripes, and chrome, finishes. This can be applied by hand or with a dual action polisher, wait 3-5 minutes after applying to the paint for the wax to dry, and then buff off with a clean microfiber towel. This can be applied on bare paint or on top of a wide variety of different waxes and sealants that have already been applied.
Overall, I'm really enjoying the product, it has the crazy hydrophobics to match my preferences and I think it pairs absolutely perfectly with the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax and the new Ceramic Detailer. I'm greatly looking forward to trying out the rest of the products Meguiar's has planned for release for 2020, stay tuned for additional testing!

Thanks Barry! Ultimate Liquid Wax is a solid choice, I enjoy using it with the DA polisher and then reserving the paste version for use by hand. I have worked with Ethos Ceramic Pro and I'm not sold on it. For $35-40 I'm not seeing enough solo performance to make me want to switch from liquid sealants like Power Lock, Deep Gloss Paint Sealant, Ultimate, Duragloss, etc. Even Lithium Seal and Squeal was showing a bit better performance for me compared to Ethos. If you end up grabbing the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer, check back in with me and let me know how you like it!

I'll definitely need to post my test video up between these two. They're both at similar levels of awesome hydrophobics, it's just you're going to have some guys that don't prefer or don't have an environment suited to work with the spray/wipe/rinse application of Hybrid Ceramic Wax. And I don't prefer using HCW without that rinse step. Meguiar's is claiming that the Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax will be the more durable option in the long term, but I think having these separate products to better suit the preferences of the user is a great thing.

Thanks Eric! I would be more likely to use HCD on top of Gliss V2. I have not tested Bead Maker on a fresher section of Gliss V2 so I'm not sure if it would try and reduce that great hydrophobic performance that Gliss offers. HCD though should play really well with Gliss without any reduction.

I've been liking M210 a lot, I gave my more fresh bottle of M205 over to my brother as he was just getting into detailing, then I picked up M210 and I think it's able to finish down slightly better than M205. After pulling out my older bottle of M205, I was able to get slightly better gloss readings using M210 with the Rhopoint glossmeter. Haven't been able to test the cutting performance yet.

Right, I'm extremely excited for the M27 Sealant, I've hyped this up a lot in anticipation of its performance. Wolfgang DGPS will blow this away in ease of application and will give better slickness. HCLW will give much better hydrophobics. @WaxMode
@WaxMode 4 жыл бұрын
Hybrid Ceramic Wax in the blue bottle I still like this product a lot. Good for maintenance, and you can use it as a standalone protectant as long as you get a good bond to the paint. I only like to use it wet, and when I spray it I like to work it in very quickly first with a microfiber towel, then I'll blast rinse it off with the pressure washer and then blow the paint dry with the air blower. It likes that physical contact with the microfiber and the paint to get the best results I've found, but I'm not working it in very much, once you get a good foundation coat it's just a really quick wipe in after spraying it on the wet paint and then an immediate rinse off. Very fun stuff but I haven't used it in a while because I've got the other products going through pure durability tests. Ultimate Quik Wax is fantastic as well, not quite as hydrophobic as Hybrid Ceramic Wax but UQW is still a very good lighter maintenance topper and I use this either as a drying aid or fully dry. Hybrid Ceramic Detailer I like as well, a bit more hydrophobic than Ultimate Quik Wax. So you've got a ton of good options from Meguiar's for regular maintenance and it's tough to make a decision on the best one.

If you prefer to work with products after the car is fully dry, the Detailer is the one to go with. The Hybrid Ceramic Wax (spray), I only like using this wet and working it in with the towel and then rinsing right off, but sometimes it's just too hot out and sunny to be using HCW, in that case I like to have the car fully dried off, then I'll top up the protection with the detailer. We don't hear much about Megs Ultimate Fast Finish, how does it hold up in comparison to the newer products?
@WaxMode
@WaxMode 4 жыл бұрын
I actually had Ultimate Fast Finish out quite frequently when I was up north earlier this year. I still think this is a great option sealant. When Turtle Wax's Ice Seal N Shine became so popular as a result of its chemical resistance, its heaviness produced situations where you could get into trouble with streaking at a significant level in certain situations. Whereas with Ultimate Fast Finish, this is much easier to work with and when placed in the same situations when Seal N Shine came out streaky, UFF went on extremely clean. I like Seal N Shine, but the market's fixation on chemical resistance as a priority has led people to avoid products that excel in areas that the chemical resistant super sprays aren't able to perform well in. After a full day of polishing and jeweling paint, Seal N Shine would not be my product of choice, I want something with a less heavy footprint that is not going to pose any threat of streaking, and UFF is one of those sealants that would be that choice for me. UFF does need to be maintained or reapplied regularly though, it's not a crazy hydrophobic product.

@WaxMode 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark! NXT Tech Wax isn't going to be quite as hydrophobic as Ultimate or Hybrid Ceramic, but I still find the wax to be a joy to work with and it can hold up so long as you're topping it up on a regular basis. It was crazy because a lot of detailers back in the day were comparing the glow of NXT Tech Wax to the glow of some of the expensive and exclusive paste waxes like Zymol and Swissvax. It does look great on the paint. I used the liquid version of NXT Tech Wax a lot many years ago, I would pull out the DA polisher with a foam wax pad every few months and apply a light reapplication. Topped up with Ultimate Quik Wax after the washes and it's a great combo. Ultimate and Hybrid Ceramic should get you stronger durability and beading, but using Ultimate Quik Wax or even the new Hybrid Ceramic Detailer after washes on top of NXT Wax can help you build up a more hydrophobic surface over time.

I've been doing a lot of recent gloss baseline testing using various abrasives on this panel. So I had the DT156 out to check the thickness measurements. I don't think this is necessarily accurate enough to cover the pre and post-polish impacts of the abrasives on the spot, it's more to get a general sense of when we're really starting to get thin with the amount of clearcoat remaining.

Hey Kevin! HCLW technically should give you the better durability, but even after a few months of HCLW on the paint I have a strong desire to maintain it with something, it will definitely lose hydrophobic performance if you're not maintaining it with something like Hybrid Ceramic Detailer after that first month. Between Ultimate and HCLW, I definitely prefer HCLW.

Can you apply the ceramic liquid wax and then detail with the d156 spray wax?
@WaxMode
@WaxMode 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you could do this, I would give the Ceramic Liquid Wax time to cure before topping it with anything, at least 12 hours. But I would prefer to use Hybrid Ceramic Detailer instead of D156 as a topper to the Ceramic Liquid Wax, they're more similar in chemistry and HCD will have a higher hydrophobic limit, should be able to maintain the better water behavior. But D156 or the new formula of Ultimate Quik Wax I haven't had issues on top of the Ceramic Liquid Wax.

I just waxed my car with Ultimate Paste Wax 2 weeks ago. Is it okay to just wash my car and after drying apply the Liquid Ceramic wax? Or do I have to clay bar it, and polish it again before?
@WaxMode
@WaxMode 4 жыл бұрын
No need to clay and polish it again, you can apply the new wax right on top of Ultimate. Now, there's all sorts of debate on whether or not this is going to destroy the durability of the new wax if you're applying this on top of another existing wax, I wouldn't worry about this. You can see in my test even after applying it on top of the Glossworkz glaze, Lava wax, V7 sealant/detailer, Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax is not having any trouble sticking and it's not just going to wash right off.

@WaxMode....I know Ethos Car Care wanted you to test their new Ceramic Wax Pro...did they ever send you a bottle to try? I'd really love to see how the Ethos Pro Ceramic Wax compares to this Meguiar's Liquid Ceramic Wax. Ease of use, gloss, durability, etc. Those along with Griot's 3 in 1 Ceramic Wax and Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating are tops on my list to use for my primary layer of protection when my full detail rolls around in another month or so.

Still contemplating doing the video on the Ethos Ceramic Wax. I definitely prefer the Meguiar’s because it’s much more hydrophobic than the Ethos, and the Ethos just has too much competition at that price point for a sealant that’s not giving me a big enough of a “wow” factor. I prefer Seal and Squeal from Lithium over Ethos. Love the Ethos branding, bottles look awesome, but not enough performance for me to not just go with Power Lock or even HCLW here.

Good question, I would mainly be using this after I polish. You could definitely use this as a topper, but Meguiar's already has the Hybrid Ceramic Wax spray, and the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer that work perfectly for topping and maintenance. If you've already got a wax on the paint you can still go over that with Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax without issues.

Definitely, you can cross over and top up the Hybrid Ceramic Wax with the Ultimate Quik Wax or Quik Detailer if you already have them. But if you want to better keep up on the crazy hydrophobics of Hybrid Ceramic Wax, the new Hybrid Ceramic Detailer is the one you want to go with. By themselves on bare paint, the Hybrid Ceramic Detailer is much more hydrophobic compared to the Ultimate Quik Wax or Detailer. But you still won't have issues working with the Ultimate line.

Hello there!! I watch your videos all the time!! Great product reviews!! I am mostly a Griots user. I have been using their 3n1 Ceramic spray wax on my 2018 Golf GTD but I also use it on my ‘67 porsche (no clear coat) but on this I use it over their Premium Carnauba wax ( I like this much better than collonite 915). However I am not too impressed with 3n1 spray wax- I really like hydrophobic coatings and 3n1 ceramic wax seems to fall short on this and also on durability. I am looking for the best hydrophobicity as well as durability- you were mentioning Sonax net shield in your video. Is this one of the best for hydrophobicity? I live in Florence, Italy most of the time and the water here is on the hard side but will probably add a filter in the future on my wash bay. What do you advise I should try? Thanks for your thoughts!!! Best Regards- Aimone Castellacci
@WaxMode
@WaxMode 4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the feedback Aimone! I've got the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax going on a few months on the test car, and although it's not the most hydrophobic product, it's actually holding up really well so far at two coats. It's holding up a bit better than the new Turtle Wax Ceramic Spray Coating which is right next to it on that car. I would say that Polymer Net Shield is definitely going to be more hydrophobic, and have a bit more staying power in being able to maintain that great hydrophobicity for a longer time. But Polymer Net Shield is not a fun product to apply and remove, it's really heavy, it takes some significant wiping to get this clean off the paint. I love it because it's durable, but it takes some time and patience to get it on and buff it off, so be aware of that if you decide to go that route. Polymer Net Shield and Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer is one of the best combination of protection and maintenance that you can get without going with a full blown paint coating setup, but that combo does lack slickness.

WaxMode Thanks for your reply. What do you recommend for detail spray that would be really hydrophobic with good durability and slickness? I would use it on modern clear coated cars as well as solid color cars from the 60’s. Or should I continue with a Griots premium carnauba wax and top It off with ceramic 3n1? Thanks again!

How does the Gold Class Carnauba Plus Wax compare to the Ultimate Paste Wax and the Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax?
@WaxMode
@WaxMode 2 жыл бұрын
Gold Class is more carnauba-based that is focused on gloss/depth, whereas Ultimate and Hybrid Ceramic are more based on a synthetic blend that is focused on durability. Ultimate and Hybrid Ceramic will outlast Gold Class in durability, with Hybrid Ceramic designed to outlast Ultimate. All of these are easy to work with on the paint, especially the latest revision of Ultimate, and all of these will be glossy to a satisfactory level, especially if you're polishing the paint beforehand using the right abrasives and polishers. So it's really up to you to decide what you want to specialize in, if you're waxing often on black paint and not polishing beforehand with a buffer, then Gold Class might be the best option. If you're looking for a balanced durability and super easy wipeoff, Ultimate might be a better option. If you're polishing beforehand and want the best durability and craziest water beading, then Hybrid Ceramic might be the best option in that case. But if you want that maximum durability, Meguiar's newest Hybrid Paint Coating will be the best option by a longshot compared to all three of their waxes.

Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax will be more hydrophobic, Ultimate Liquid Wax will be a bit easier to apply and remove. Both were giving me similar gloss ratings when using the glossmeter, but this is being measured on paint that is already highly polished so be aware of that. You should get months of durability out of both by themselves, but I would want to use Hybrid Ceramic Detailer as a topper on a regular basis over the Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax sections, and likewise use Ultimate Quik Wax over the Ultimate Liquid Wax sections after washes.

It's an interesting wax without a doubt and I like having it in the collection. Very soft texture, similar to the Turtle Wax original green paste formula. Smells incredible, reminds me of yogurt. On/off is okay, water behavior isn't anything special. I don't love it, I would like it a lot more if it was closer to $30 rather than $70. I do love the design of the logo and that frosty jar they put it in so you can see the color of the wax showing through. I prefer their Classic Paste Wax much more, which I think they have since discontinued unfortunately. I'm really wanting to get my hands on their E-Zyme Paste Wax badly. I'll have to do a video on some my favorite Chemical Guys products, I'm a bit of a fan for a variety of their line which would probably surprise some of my viewers.

Chemical Guys is great for gloss and ease of use, and most of their products that I’ve used smell fantastic. I like the glaze + wax approach, maintain with any of the spray detailers or V7, re-glaze every few months and reapply the wax and repeat. EZ Creme, Glossworkz, Black Light, I love these as that pre-wax glaze/cleaner product, all incredibly easy to use and it makes the wax just glide on when you’re working by hand. Fun stuff, not focused on ultimate protection but more for guys that like to touch and play around with the paint often.

All of these are very similar in peak gloss readings coming out of the gloss meter. If highest gloss is your main focus, you want to spend the time to really jewel the paint with the right fine abrasive polishes, as this does more for the measurable gloss of the paint rather than the specific protectant in my tests.

M27 is going to be a different sealant compared to the Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax. A bit more expensive as well, and you're not going to be able to pick it up over-the-counter like you would with HCLW as far as I know. No wax in the formula, less stringent dry times, we're going to see how it compares to HCLW but the majority of the consumers will gravitate towards HCLW for the lower price and higher exposure. Chemical resistance tests are useless, a real world torture test would be letting the panel sit in direct sunlight and test the ability of the sealant to withstand high temperatures. Most of the times people loose their pains protection is because they park their car in the sun, not because of impossible chemical rains. Your sealant can last for months in the shade in your garage, but how will it resist in the summer sun and high temps?
