.............................................................
This is the new Mercedes eActros! It's an all-electric lorry which shows what the future of haulage could look like... And Mat's got his hands on one for a review!
Given it has the ability to carry a max load of 27 tonnes, it'll come as no surprise that it requires some serious power to get around. Under the skin, you'll find a huge 400kWh battery pack (4 times the size of one in an EQS, no less!) along with electric motors which helps the eActros put down 540hp and 970Nm of torque. It also has a claimed range of 400km.
Now this may be a huge truck, but of course, it's also a carwow review, so you know Mat's going to have to launch it and perform a brake test! The question is, will he enjoy it so much that he'll want to review more trucks in the future? You'll have to keep watching to find out!

I live in France and I’ve had my driving license for about 2 month which means I still know the rules pretty well. In France when coming on a roundabout if you intend to leave on the right you use the right blinker before going into the roundabout, if you wanna go straight on you don’t use any blinker except when you leave the roundabout and if you intend to go left you use the left blinker before and inside the roundabout and before you leave you use the right one.

Ah okay now it makes perfectly sense to me! I'm from Germany and I always wondered - while driving in France or even Spain - why everyone is using the blinker that much in a roundabout. Like Marcel told Mat, in Germany we get taught to use the blinker only when we're leaving a roundabout. Because as an oncoming driver you can't necessarily know from which direction the oncoming traffic was entering the roundabout and therefore it's irrelevant to know if the oncoming driver drives straight ahead or left or right from his original entering position. Do you know what I mean? In Germany, if no turn signal is on, you know that the car stays inside. Sure, now that I understand the french rules, it's definitely nice to know when someone is staying in the roundabout and therefore flashing his left blinker, that might even be safer! But the main thing when you're waiting to enter is when you see the right blinker. Then you can go ahead as an oncoming driver. That's the German theory at least :D

This is the same as UK - except the opposite. Driving in France for me was no problem. Italy - no indications ever!
@emanuelteicht2358
@emanuelteicht2358 2 жыл бұрын
In Germany, at traffic circles, you do not have to use the turn signal on entry, only on exit. Obviously, it makes more sense to use the turn signal to show that you are staying in the traffic circle and also when exiting too. It is the case in many other countries that you use the turn signal when driving inside the circle that you stay in the circle.
@Henry_Jr_Watsson
@Henry_Jr_Watsson 2 жыл бұрын
But do people also turn signal on when leaving then? In Holland, the law recommends you to turn signal on if you're not leaving too and turn signal on when leaving. But the law only requests it for leaving. A lot of people do not use the signal at all and that is illegal. Also, some turn weird and do not take exit. It makes it very confusing.
@emanuelteicht2358
@emanuelteicht2358 2 жыл бұрын
@@Henry_Jr_Watsson absolutely, very confusing. In Germany by law only when exiting, not more. People who are to comfortable and don't use the signals at all are obviously dumb 🤣
@1SaG
@1SaG 2 жыл бұрын
Why would it make sense to indicate left when you're not exiting the roundabout? That'd be like having a third indicator for "straight ahead" when you're not turning left or right at a regular intersection. If I don't indicate, I'll stay in the roundabout. Reducing the amount of signalling you have to do, which in turn makes things easier and more foolproof for all parties.
@SzabeeHUN
@SzabeeHUN 2 жыл бұрын
@@Henry_Jr_Watsson If you dont indicate, you are staying, if you indicate, you are going out the next exit :) its the same thing with indicating for staying inside, but just adds extra complexity.
@milinddixit6583
@milinddixit6583 2 жыл бұрын
In the UK, I find indicating before a roundabout is useful for other people. They don't need to stop and wait to see what I'm going to do. Example: a 3-way mini roundabout: | O ----- | ^^ Me Here I would indicate left if I'm going "straight" (there is no left turn), so cars coming the opposite way don't have to stop and wait to see if I'm going to turn right.

Just like with electric cars, maybe you could do a real world senario video. In which you would drive a typical truckers day including taking breaks and look at charging facilities/availablity and so on. Range would be a good thing for us to learn more about. As you said Electric trucks will be used more around town. The MPG in a diesel truck plummits in city conditions compare to long range motorway use, because of the difference in start/stop of traffic, juctions and lights. How would the battery react to range in motorway vs city situations? Would the effiency of the battery react the same as the mpg of diesel????

Roundabouts in Spain are simple: you always give way to the left when entering and travel in the rightmost lane unless you are overtaking another car. If you stray from the rightmost lane and wish to move back into the rightmost lane or exit the roundabout (which should be done typically from the rightmost lane) you must give way to any cars in the rightmost lane.

@Big Dongle I have a degree in automotive engineering but I work on the railway (18 years and counting) now. I have learned. It was a comment for comedy. ABS was first used on trains not cars or trucks. Except we call it WSP on rail vehicles. Aircraft used it next. Automotive adopted it around 30 or 40 years later. My point is that regenerative braking is something that has been on rail vehicles a while. Or more accurately rheostatic braking as for true regenerative braking the infrastructure also needs updating which is only compatible in certain areas. But rail tech is generally basic and hasn't moved on as much as automotive technology in the last 20 years or so. Whether its trucks bikes or cars. Rail has lost ground in recent years but the product life cycle of a train is 30ish years. Some locos are 50+ years old and still in service. The typical life of a car is 10-12 years and new product lines appear every 2-3 years. Rail can't keep up with that level of development. Like I said, I know what I'm talking about the original comment was just supposed to be funny.
@mikeblatzheim2797

@@typhoon-7 It is very dependant on the country you're in, as in the US railway technology hasn't really changed all that much over the last 60 years, whilst in other countries like in Germany there have been continuous new developments and technologies implemented on the railways. LZB for instance was introduced several decades ago on higher speed lines and is able to fully automatically control the train, and with ETCS currently being introduced across the EU, the technology is certainly more advanced than on the roads.

@@namcloudinvestments769 in the UK, if you want to take an exit beyond 12 O'clock (on the opposite end of the round about) you should indicate right to signal you will stay on the round about until that exit. In my opinion, it enhances situational awareness for drivers interacting with the roundabout as they will know what exit the car is taking before it enters the roundabout. It is very useful for roundabouts with multiple lanes as it allows you to speed up around a car if you know the car is definitely not taking a certain exit due to the indication. Not where I'm from, they say indicate before you enter. That way the people behind know where you're going

UK you indicate when you enter and leave, that way traffic can merge on the roundabout with you easier.

, you are correct about the signalling at a roundabout. As you enter the roundabout you signal where you are going. Then as you leave you signal just as you pass the exit before your turning. Where people don’t indicate this is the main reason why there is always a queue on the approach to any roundabout.I speak from an advanced driver point of view who is a professional one too.

Indicating left if going past 12 o clock is fine. Don't have to do it but it does make roundabouts operate more efficiently.
