Wow, the direction of the entire game is completely changing now. Characters getting skill trees and perks that encourage long playthroughs instead of world hopping and falling into the "rush ruins kill all bosses" gameplay loop I'm digging it to be honest. It just seems far more appealing and varied compared to the state of the game for the past while.

As someone who's worked in game design, I enjoy challenging myself to "fix" issues I see or others see in games with minimal deviation from the current form. Regarding this list, looking at everyone whose rank is C or lower: Wormwood: Let him get a minimum of 1 seed from any plant he harvests, regardless of plant stress and change the compost healing animation speed to be the same as other healing items. The first part makes his plant-anywhere ability more useful, especially in multiplayer. Maybe preventing normal seeds from becoming weeds when planted in farm soil would also be good, but that conflicts with his weed immunity ability. The second part makes healing in combat with fertilizers much more viable. Winona: Remove her hunger penalty for crafting and her slow crafting when hungry so she's a proper craftswoman. Let her give bonuses to her nearby structures like how Maxwell buffs his duelists, like reducing the operating costs for her structures and increasing the damage and speed of her catapults so there's a reason to use them outside of auto-farms. Maybe let her craft tools and/or structures for 25% less materials to really drive home her crafting proficiency. Willow: Give her Wickerbottom's fire pen, which could be recharged with nitre, gunpowder, or glommer goop. And I like the idea of having mobs she sets on fire dropping their normal loot, though I'm not sure how you'd even start coding it. Maybe give her the ability to craft something useful with ashes, like the fire pen or her own special gunpowder recipe. I don't think multiple BERNIE!s would be balanced, but maybe allowing the small Bernies to deal 20 damage would work. They'd be like extremely tanky spiders, so maybe halving their max HP to just be very tanky spiders. Woodie: Let the weremoose attack at normal speed for 74.4 damage (like Wigfrid with a ham bat) and increase his speed to normal so it's stronger but a bit frailer than a lategame Woodie. Let the weregoose use wormholes/portals/cave stairs, attack mobs for 25 damage (the same as Wes with a spear), and maybe let it "fly" over gaps in the caves/ruins like how it walks on water, letting it excel at travel without being completely defenseless. Increase the speed of all of the werebeaver's harvesting actions so its niche is expanded to be good at all types of harvesting and excel at tree chopping. Finally, let Woodie revert back with 75 hunger instead of 0 so he doesn't start starving immediately after reverting. Walter: I completely agree with the slingshot rework. I've actually put a lot of thought into this one, since I love ranged combat in games. Increase the range and speed of the slingshot by 50% as well as increasing the damage of his primary ammo to the progression of 34 (pebble)->42.5 (gold)->51 (marble, as it is)->68 (cursed). Maybe also make melty marbles do 200 damage like gunpowder since it's non-stackable. Alternatively, make more trinkets stackable (though this technically wouldn't be a change to Walter). Let Wobby take hits like a beefalo (which would reduce her hunger instead of HP, so she'd need some DR to avoid getting one-hit by nearly everything. And probably more hunger) and give her her minimum speed of 8 all the time (which is still faster than a beefalo). With these changes, Walter's slingshot and Woby actually counteract his downside of taking sanity damage from HP damage somewhat instead of making that downside worse. Also remove his bee allergy, at least for bee queen and grumble bees. I'm fine with normal bees being a bit more threatening to him, but specific bosses shouldn't counter specific characters, especially one with drops as important as bee queen's. His other abilities don't do much, but I'm actually okay with them, maybe only changing the sanity aura to be proportional to nearby trees, like Willow with fires. I know I said I want to do minimal changes, but the slingshot and Woby just need straight-up overhauls to even function properly. Wes: Give him 50 hunger/HP/sanity! Reduce his damage multiplier to .5! Make him take 50% more damage from all sources! Make him unable to use his own balloons! Make him crash the server every time a boss dies! GIVE HIM A PERMANENT SCREEN FLICKER TO INFLICT REAL PAIN TO THE PLAYER! But for real, I like Wes how he is. He's meant to be a challenging character, and he still has some utility with his pole o' baloons. I'd consider buffing his normal balloons do either 10 damage to the attacker or 5 AoE damage (just to mobs and and Wes) just so they have a use.

You could make Wes more trolling like.. Ability to create an Invisible box (#Mime) and then he cannot be damaged by doing so but cannot perform any other actions while casting the box. I think Wes should be a bit more fun to play right even for challenge char xD

Willow, ability to IGNITE Large Bernie into Enraged Large Bernie for DPS boost. Ex. faster attack 1.5x to 2x with the same damage, and maybe boosting his HP further by 500. Perhaps it could drain Bernie's HP slowly until death (0%) where he doesn't burn up, so a Sewing kit would fix it. This would add some boss fighting capabilities. Also having multiple willows only activate one Bernie, I think it's a downside of duplicating a character... but I would imagine multiple large Bernies are quite overpowered.

Agreed on Woodie Hunger values, it's a very detrimental effect of being in the Were form. I dislike that Maxwell outperforms the Woodchopper extremely easily, even with Werebeaver form. Woodie is not the character it used to be with Maxwell being this OP. Dropping your equipped items and not being able to access your inventory is also very detrimental. It really makes it a hard character to pilot. If Weremoose does not get a movement penalty he would already be a better fighter in general, cause the slowdown makes him weak and since you can't tank forever or eat healing items.. Kiting is really the only thing you can do... so perhaps remove that... However I got a good idea now, give them the ability to eat from the FLOOR. Why? Drop Pierogi and such on the floor, so you can heal midbattle while fighting it would actually help Woodie quite a bit, if they couldn't already cause then you can actually plan your fights. So yea, I agree Beaver should gnaw faster or deal more "harvesting dmg", Goose no idea... and Moose, remove or reduce movement penalty.. and all around. Don't drop equipped items and eat from the floor would also help Woodie a bit.

​@@Paladjin Ooh, Burning BERNIE! sounds like an incredible idea. I think I like it better than the craftable spider-like Bernies in my initial idea. A minor tweak: I think an ignited BERNIE! should deal more damage and attack faster, as 50 dps is still pretty low. I'd go for 100 damage and inflicting burn every 1.5s, it's attack is slightly stronger than a dark sword (133.33 dps + ~10 burn dmg/s = 143 dps vs 136 dps) and puts him on a timer of no more than 200s, allowing it to blitz through non-raid bosses while still allowing normal BERNIE! to be useful vs raid bosses.

Walter could probably benefit a lot from a system like the skilltree Wilson has, allowing you to upgrade his perks as you play him more. Perhaps with it he could choose between upgrades like Rapid Fire, Multishots, Attacking while moving (especially great when mounted), Woby upgrades, perhaps a dodge roll (like Wheeler's) or improving his camping abilities, etc.

For Walter, it's like you read my mind and said it in a better way then I ever could. Real shame he isn't as good as he could be. You can ignore the Bee allergy, you could ignore the tent, the stories and the sanity drain on getting hit, but having his main thing, The slingshot" be so underwhelming, is really disappointing. Little rework of only his slingshot would benefit the character greatly. But, there's really no point in me saying this here, maybe on their (Kleis) forums... Great video as always!

Tbh I agree with the WX part, the rework mainly just limited their traits, and the durability on the circuits makes players not want to try different combinations, wich seemed to be what Klei wanted players to do lmao

They should nerf all circuit bonuses early game and allow for late game upgrades with lower socket requirements. This way it allows players to mix and match a variety of circuits and makes for a better feeling progression. Probably what his skill tree will look like in the future.

THANK YOU for mentioning beefalos. Not only are they an amazing option for many characters that results in a much different playstyle, but they are an absolute lifesaver for people like wes or Maxwell (my 2 most played characters). That being said it definitely makes sense to have it on its own separate from characters, as it has its own stats, perks, and downsides. And overall, I can't disagree with your tier list in any way. i agree with webber, while yes he has a way to become immortal (cuz yes) he isnt absurd until you find certain areas like a bunch of dangling depth dwellers or get a bunch of spiders, it is conveniant that he can eat raw and monster foods without experiencing consequences for his actions along with 1 morsal averaging 1 monster meat if you feed it to spiders (because we all know murdering friends is worth it, spiders drop one of 3 things, including monster meat, if you murder all 3 spiders u get by feeding a morsal to one you average 1 monster meat which not only extentuates hunger a bit, but also they drop 2 other useful items)

He is the most powerful character combat-wise, but since he lacks gathering abilities along with a lot of preparation and knowledge needed early on makes him a non-newbie friendly character, but that's perfectly understandable, since he has stunlock, infinite healing and extremely high dps without weapons.

Maxwell and Wickerbottom need downsides. It is pretty dumb that they have some of the most powerful upsides, yet they barely have downsides. For Maxwell, health pool does not matter much outside of early game, i think his health pool should increase, but in counterplay, he takes extra damage. For wickerbottom she needs something new. I like both their upsides, they are fun, but downsides can often make characters more fun and interesting aswell.

i hate the fact that Maxwell's only downside is literally completely negated by a Beefalo that you will tame anyways. And early on you just craft a log suit and just play as if you are Wilson and ignore hits.

Nice list c: I agree with most of those rankings, with the exception of these three: Wigfrid: I would rate her 1 tier higher. She does have lategame advantages, namely her synergies with enlightened crown and brightshade staff. Enlightened crown lets Wigfrid deal roughly the same DPS as Old Wanda when combined with dark sword and clear minded cadenza, and brightshade staff triggers her passive not only on every cast, but every bounce as well. Outside of lategame, she maintains a strong niche being one of the few characters that doesn't need to bring healing to most boss fights. WX: I would rate them 1 tier higher. Even if you never change modules and only use 1 speed + 1 nightvision, the speed saves enough time in traversing the map to make them a strong character. WX with 1 speed module and a cane (9.375) is almost as fast as a saddled beefalo (9.8), while WX with 1 speed module, a cane and a magi (11.25) is faster than a beefalo with a glossamer saddle (10.85). You can maintain that speed and still use weapons that are stronger than beefalo DPS. This is seriously a huge timesave over the course of the game, whether you're boss rushing or megabasing. Wilson: I would rate him 2 tiers (or at least 1 tier) lower. I do not see a lot of uses for transmutation aside from flint, nitre, and bone shards. Flint and nitre can already be renewed by making a moleworm farm, and bone shards, if you'd even want to renew them, can be obtained from player skeletons. The beard buff is admittedly nice, but it only matters for 15/70 days.

Wormwood should honestly be F-tier. He's not actually the best at farming. Wickerbottom is. Tending to plants faster/in an AoE while blooming just doesn't compare to being able to skip the random seed grind and produce crops way, way faster with Horticulture, Expanded than growing giants ever would (unless you're doing it on a truly titanic scale). If Wicker does want to farm giants, she's even better at that than Wormwood since Lux Aeterna Redux lets crops grow at night. Lastly, anyone can tend to plants in an AoE with just a One-Man Band, and you get crops tended for you automatically as soon as you get a friendly fruit fly. Wormwood's best use for farming is to give Wickerbottom some living logs to make a bookcase with.

I feel like wormwood is extremely underrated and here is why: 1.He's got a stack of 1/3 of a jellybean (Compost Wrap) by going to the caves and picking up 280 lightbulbs (it takes around 2 in-game days to do it) and mining 40 nitre (around 2 gold pickaxes in the mosaic or rocky biome and 2 days), which is already better cost-efficient and lasts for around 350 days. It's easier than killing the beequeen, which requires plenty of resources and strong character or DAYS of farming for spices and character swapping. Okay, but wendy can kill bee queen easier than the other characters and more cost-efficiently, so compared to wormwood she IS better. You can say that eating food is just better than healing with a jelly bean, but we all know that for long phase bosses the long-term effect if extremely valuable and can save your life, especially in hound attacks/frog rains/brightshade invasions etc..; 2.The most powerful stat in this entire game is movespeed, I bet you know the difference it makes when getting the walking cane. Wormwood has a 20% movement speed PERMANENTLY because of the Compost Wrap rush, which makes killing 90% of the bosses easier. And if you don't want to waste heals you can always craft living logs which are a PAIN to get with other characters. Also, taking the gloomer on the first moon ALREADY makes it permanent blooming stage because of the perfect max blooming time with the gloomers goop drop which can be consumed for blooming. On spring you get 20 days free, and in the late game you can use fermented growth formula starters which makes blooming maximum stage last for 6 days instead of three; 3.Just a Tent or a Siesta-lean-to can give you enough living logs for 800 days objectively; 4.Not having to care about lureplants, bees, sea weeds and weeds in general IS something that can be use to an insane advantage, specifically in base building areas. Like in the caves for example, since bananas are his favorite food and red mush biomes are basically carrot biomes, and those alternative options WILL make for an easier time considering gathering recources and building your base, scalling like a snowball in the late game when used the right way. Or the lobster + sea weed combo that I did which made for a very specifically and unique way of expanding your base building options since my world didn't have any good wormholes. Not having to wait for the night to harvest sea weeds IS time-efficient and should be consider as you can stack more food quicker then most alternatives; 5.Being able to eat raw monster meat in dangerous situations without ANY deficit since he can plant and gain sanity is an awesome underrated perk and has saved me more than twice; 6.The infinite dark sword farm with the PERFECT sanity control that he has makes for objectively THE best sanity control user in the game (a shovel can give you more than 200 sanity by simply digging and placing the same thing on the ground such as a sapling) and makes farming for shadow creatures super easy; 7.He has a blooming protection in summer which is noticeable and can help you to never ever die from overheating just by standing below a tree; 8.He has the super cheap bramble husk, which makes picking cactus and spiky bushes (that grows in winter and don't wither in summer) damage-free. Also having around 20 Area of Effect damage x3 when fighting lots of mobs at the same time. It's good for shadow monkeys, I usually make paths in the ruins attracting all the monkeys to a single spot and using aroung 40% of a thulecite crown + 80% of a bramble husk to kill all of them in less than 5 seconds since the shield from the crown protects you but still activates the AoE damage, not having to rely on winona's catapult or houndius shootius is awesome on that spot. Another example is the Ancient Fuelweaver fight, where you don't need weather pains for it, I just rush the 6 shadow hands and tank him on the spot, making for a longer window of time to hit him (sometimes it seems I can kill him quicker then most characters because of it); 9.Here is one the biggest reasons why wormwood is so underrated, the bramble trap. You can make Splumonkey farms, Hound farms, Bunnyman farms, Mactusk farms, Frog farms, Tallbird farms, all of that using stingers and living logs. It simply makes the game 10x easier once set-up; I know that he's not the best character, and I know that many of the things I said could be done using normal ways already, but Wormwood does it indirectly better if you manage understand the way the character works by minmaxing it. I have more than 2k hours in the game and atleast 100 hours with each character, specially wanda which is my favorite one. But what impressed me was the possibility of things I can do with chars such as Wurt and Walter as well. I feel like those characters are only really appreciated after hours spend playing it. Also, I didn't even mentioned his farming abilities because they are honestly useless imo. The only good use for seed is to spam them on the ground as soon as you get them so you can have free random food around the map whenever you are. Besides all of that, he is definetly an A tier for me ONLY because of the movespeed buff.

@@swiyss i am impressed by how little i knew about him despite already enjoying his infinite Dark Swords and an abillity to run extremely fast with a cane. Anyways you can also get dirt cheap healing by literally crafting a few compost bins once, and putting excess resources into them.

16:29 Does WX have the potential he once had? No. But he can get what you want way more consistently, and even surpass his pre-rework power in some of the stats. 475 health, for example, or the ability to warm other players as well as being winterproof. Also, the tactical death method to make your gears last much longer still works, even after they stopped giving stats.

As a wendy main, it's wierd to see her in b,i thought she was a,and nowhere over or under,the fact that she is not very good against aoe damaging bosses is that she is an easy way to learn how to reach the point of the game where you fight these bosses,with the help of Abigail,and then it balances up with the decreased dmg with Wendy so that the bosses wouldn't be be easy, At least that's how i see her tho.

It’s just my personal opinion. But I think Wanda is overrated. It just doesn’t feel as “smooth” when playing as her vs playing as Maxwell, Wurt, or Wendy, if that makes sense. Being able to teleport is nice. But when you have a beefalo, telelocator, and well placed wormholes, it doesn’t feel as important. For mega basing, I prefer characters that are good at generating and harvesting resources. I do agree that Wanda has good dps. But when you can obliterate raid bosses with merms and bees and spiders and shadow duelists, one strong whip that only reaches its max potential when you have 16 (I think it’s around the ballpark) hp equivalent left just feels underwhelming. Staying mid-aged is an option, but at that point, wouldn’t she just be a wigfrid. I will have to admit i don’t have the skills to kite bosses without taking any damage. I’m just your average player.

How often do you really hop between say the ruins and elsewhere anyway? I started out as a Wanda main but managing old Wanda became a hassle so then I switched to Maxwell as a main. The best thing about Maxwell is you will be rewarded for the long-game and for the effort you put into it. If you go Beefalo into ruins rush and right into AFW then you become a demi-god. That said I've started to main Webber and it's much easier to play him on console in co-op for me. It really doesn't hurt that you can get end-game Webber before the winter even begins and you can totally just bring some nurse spiders and be on a War Ornery beefalo and that's still good enough versus most raid bosses (Especially in co-op).

I played a Fuelweaver rush with him and man Wormwood is really underrated, for boss healing you only need jellybeans and batbat, and for how easy wormwood can kill Beequeen I really feel like he should be at least in B tier

@@leoelfo304 it's also dirt cheap to heal with him, you can literally put a stick into a compost bin and you get 8 hp. His only issue is that the animations take a ridiculous amount of time. Wormwood is so much fun when you learn how to play him, which is something you don't really feel with other characters as they either have bad downsides with little payoff(Walter, Woodie, Willow) or no downsides with major payoff(Wolfgang, Maxwell, WX). You are actually get rewarded for playing the game well, but still have to consider his downsides. While Wolfgang starves 25% faster when you kill everything 100% faster.

i would put WX as S tier, or at least a real high A tier, for the free unlimited moggle vision alone. you never need lantern, mining helm, star caller ever, but a nice balance being that you really need an eyebrella at all times to make sure you keep that moggle vision. and the speed upgrade, making marble armor/piggy back totally viable, or literally just never carrying a cane. so many options that result in less micro/ more inventory space throughout the game. they should give him a similar structure to wickers bookshelf though, cause the limited durability is really the only thing i dont like about his upgrades

Problem with maxwell is that for coop, his shadow warriors mess up with a lot of bosses and make patterns harder to react to and without them he doesn't really have any melee boosts

I feel like, for newer players, Walter is good at dealing okay-ish constant damage to a single boss, Celestial Champion. Especially if you don't have a weather paine to deal with glass rocks on the ground for 3rd phase. With his slingshot, you can at least deal constant damage without ever getting up close. I just felt the need to say it. Not saying he is good, just a quick brainstorm. But for experienced players, other characters are better.

I don't really think solo WX got nerfed as much as people think. You can now have a permanent +50% speed boost without using a telelocator staff every few days, and in winter can switch out half of that speed boost for free freezing protection, or for unlimited moggles for the ruins. The stat boosts were always lackluster on WX imo. More sanity just means less nightmare fuel and it's harder to swap to and from insanity. More health and hunger barely matter, as food and healing is easy to come by, especially with gears. I do wish the other circuits were useful though.

No way warly is not S tier. He can do 3x damage and has foods to deal with darkness, wetness, cold and hot weather. Against a wet targets he does more dmg than Wolfgang and against dry ones he does just a little bit less (1.8x)

What the other guy said, the skill ceiling for the character is a valid concern. Recently tried to play on a private server with a friend, im still relatively new and he was brand new. It was a constant struggle to even keep him fed, we hardly had time for anything else.

@@nishcheta885 He's definitely S-Tier for very good players imo. Setting up a voltgoat farm requires getting lunar island pretty early for example and requires an understanding of some fundamental game mechanics (like off-screen farming, spawn points, locating lunar island and getting there etc.)

@@nishcheta885keeping him fed isn’t too difficult when you learn his quirks. He remembers food for 2 days and has 250 hunger. Just eat every couple days as warly but eat in bulk. Repeating a dish 1 or 2 times isn’t that big of a penalty but resets the timer so you can either eat 3 meatballs when your hunger is low and when you need to eat again in 2 days you can just eat 3 more

Am the only one who just heals with sleep if your not in a rush to heal way more effective than healing foods ngl especially with sista lean to And let's not forgot it restores your Sanity sure it's slow but lets be honest almost nobody actually manages sanity so when you get it back you have to waste LESS time with nightmare creatures which means you sleeping inst as slow as it seems since you get some time and possibly health back from not having to deal with shadow creatures. Also this might be a me thing but sleeping can be a nice break from the semi strefull what I am going to do now to be efficient aspect of don't starve once you get better at the game

Yeah you're not the only one, it's just that "pros" are addicted to making a ton of farms very early on and crumble under healing stuff, whereas a normal player doesn't. Most people don't boss rush or set-up super elaborate farms, they just play and enjoy the game normally, and for them a tent is great as it's cheap and only requires hunger which is easy to manage.

@@dwight3555 well I mean I suppose since I don't really make many farms but I would consider myself pretty good since I was able to do a boss rush of ancient guardian bee queen and dragonfly by day 23 but I still find sleeping more effective making a tent or especially a lean to is cheap and if you waste your time gathering resources for like a pierogi you get way less health than say a meaty stew and sleeping like the time it takes to get stuff like vegetables and extra meat and eggs and all that just isn't enough to make up for sleeping for me

You are just used to eat a meaty stew once you return from transformation with woodie. You say is painfull to deal with full moon everynight? I think its a free totem every night, in fact you can predict a battle before the moonlight it will reset your weremeter, making it posible to stay as a moose for way more time. You say goose has no sense at late? You dont ever need a boat bit when you need wiching pinch, and you can go fast to ruins (not faster that a wanda with a travel or wortox with jumps). I guess this is not a very objective tier list but i appreciatte the quality of the video.

Wormwood can heal pretty easily with rot and healing salves. Rot heals for 4 hp each, and healing salves can be farmed with stone fruit bushes and spiders, where you get ash and stone from the bushes. It works well and i reccomend trying it.

for woodie’s rework they should make him not lose all his hunger on transformation. He should also keep his equipped items so moose can use mag for speed, chilling amulet for freeze effect, life giving amulet for healing, etc. only exception is that armor wont work for moose form.

i dont think your points for wormwood being "bad" are true, because spider glands/mosquito sacks are good for healing, farming is helpful throughout every season (including winter) and is quite easy too, especially for wormwood along with the fact that bees (non killer ones) are neutral to him even in spring plus he literally has a skill now that makes killer bees neutral to him too well thinking about it he isnt the best in SINGLEplayer but in MULTIplayer he acts as a great support

It’s hard to even watch these as entertainment when you immediately compare post fuelweaver dmg with one character and then don’t mention another’s huge downside post fuelweaver/cc. like Wendy having to play extremely carefully to not get hit and lose their beefalo or basically be Wes when fighting anything post CC… the most annoying enemy currently in the game, the brightshades if you’re not cheesing them, completely nullify any of wendys perks.
