Saw dust and or straw for the win. It’s cheaper and organic and when done, you can till it into the soil to improve water retention and soil texture. Basic is brilliant. Well done Dre

I’m using shredded cardboard around my tomatoes as mulch. Works great and free! FYI- Rolly Polly Pill bugs eat tomato stems.🤬

Consider using a trowel handle to make your holes through the plastic. Thump it in nice & deep, then drop in your tomato seedling. No need to backfill, just keep the soil moist. Much faster!

Interesting as I had previously though you were probably not getting as much oxygen into the soil as the plants could use. Tomatoes don't mind wet-roots so the lower oxygen wasn't as noticeable. I wonder if you could trade those raised mounds for tile-drainage to get the oxygen that raised beds offer. My State suggest that mounds over 10 inches high is a waste of money & time unless you're growing trees on unmanaged land.

Can you tell me approx how many bales of straw it took for your size of tunnel?

How far apart are you planting them?

I will never use wheat straw again for weed control. I grew 700 foot double row sweet onions last winter and it was a nightmare. It suppressed weeds, but the wheat seed in the straw grew like a wheat field. I was weeding nearly every week.

Sir when you replant how old the little plants are because I am not doing well in my farm we only get 10 to 13 tomatoes each plant no more...

How do you avoid blossom end rot, or is that overstated?
@65stang982 ай бұрын
less water and adequate nutrients in your soil. If you are getting blossom end rot something is off
