My great grandfather was a chile farmer in Nuevo Mexico and my great great grandfather was a miner somewhere near the caballo mountains, some of my great grandfather brothers were deported to México, although they were born in Nuevo Mexico.

My Romero roots date back to the Truchas and Mora land grants. Researched back to a Antonio Jose Romero and his wife Maria Manuela Cordova who would be my great great grandparents. Great grandfather Seferino Romero and Patricia Armijo, grandfather Ramon Romero and Manuelita Garcia. The timeline goes further than my great great grandfather, as far back to 1600 all living in New Mexico! I love New Mexico!!

My Great-Grandfather (x6) was Domingo de Luna, who acquired property through the San Clemente land grant now known as Los Lunas! I want to move there so bad!

I grew up in Peralta in the 1960's. Los Lunas is where the grocery store and Blakes Lota' Burger and the bowling alley were located. In other words, Los Lunas was the happening place! My family spent a lot of time in Los Lunas. A whole bunch of my cousins settled in Los Lunas when they grew up. I joined the US Army and I was gone for 20 years. I now live in Las Cruces, but still visit my family in Los Lunas often.

I’m just starting my ancestry journey. I’ve traced an ancestor to the Pueblo Revolt . In this video I heard a lot of familiar names & am hoping I can trace them further back to some of the 1st Spanish families in NM . 👍🏼Great vid. Thank you .

I come from the Diaz-Chavez lineage on my Dad's side and Aragon all the way back to Spain on my Mom's side. What we cannot figure out is where the Blea surname showed up. Our lineage shows Diaz-Chaves and then Diaz and then Diaz-Blea. No clue how the Blea worked itself in there.

Thank you Mr. Martinez for this straight, honest, telling of New Mexican “Hispanic “origins . As a native New Mexican and self appointed family genealogist my entire family lines are exactly of “ mestizo” admixture. On my straight paternal line my brother’s YDNA test results with Family Tree DNA our father was a direct paternal descendant of JeanL Archeveque aka Juan de Archeveque who came to to New Mexico with Don Diego de Vargas- from my research we are “not “ descendants of his illegitimate son Agustin Archeveque, rather from another “ illegitimate son of Jean L ‘ Archeveque aka Juan de Archeveque himself .There is much controversy regarding more than a few New Mexican males that we match with different surnames than us. however, we do match Exactly with fast- moving mutations confirmed via Family Tree DNA to two European males who have absolutely no connection to the USA nor Spain, or Mexico. One male lives in the UK whose family was from France and the other male has ancestry from Switzerland. On my maternal lines I have tested my MTDNA with FamilyTreeDNA and I am Haplogroup B-4+++++ with confirmed matches with Pueblo Native American females that have tested. Your narrative is “ right on target “ about our famille’s New Mexican lineage. Unfortunately, after many years of “ dealing” with New Mexico , history and genealogy groups , ( not in a positive way) I do not wish to disclose my birth name, although I have the genealogy records proving descent without any gaps on both my paternal and maternal lines . Gonzales from Coimbra, Gomez from Coina in the Onate period, and Mascarenas from Lisbon in the Vargas period. A son of Manuel Jorge, who was from Tangiers, came to New Mexico in the mid 1600s. Not sure about Madeira. Fray Alonso de Benavides was from the Azores.

They were escaping persecution. The native people were here already, and they were had their own cultures. Spaniards came to conquer and convert.

@ednasandoval Of course, but spanish mixed with the natives without hesitation. And they did that in all América. That was our main advantage. Saludos desde España.

It’s hard to say whether these people were Spanish or Mexican. They were really white or whiter Mexicans. I have met a lot of New Mexicans who were lighter skinned, but their food and customs were Mexican, not unlike the creoles in Monterrey, Nuevo León Mexico. But these distinctions have faded to become almost meaningless.
