Hi Andrew. As an owner how well do these hold a charge. Eg airport parking for 2 -3 weeks Im thinking of an EV and at this price point its viable for me. Whats the battery life expectancy and do you know the replacement cost. Lastly have you had any design niggles or problems. Many thanks Lee
@andrewdyson42553 жыл бұрын
@@Lee-70ish Hi, I can only give you my own personal experience. I went on a 27 day motorcycle holiday in July and left the car parked up while I was away the whole time. When I left it, it was charged to 98% and when I got home it was still at 98% and there were no issues with it, all still worked fine. As for battery life I have no information on the subject but with a 7 year warranty I think it should be pretty good. As early adopters it’s always a bit of a gamble and everyone’s circumstances are different. I’ve no vested interest in the brand but would certainly recommend EVs in general, I chose the MG as made most sense to me in my financial position. ( a cheaper one I could afford) and I’ve had no regrets. There are lots of posher brands out there and very impressive they are too but beyond my pocket. Finally I’ve had no problem at with the car, yes certain things could be better but that would come with a cost

@@zioxei It looks nothing like a Touran. Arguably, it looks a little like the Passat Estate, which is no bad thing, if a little dated. Some people object to aethetics of the relatively small alloys and high profile tyres, which are unfashionable compared with the low profile tyres that are currently in vogue. Personally, I think they make for better ride comfort and save you wrecking the tyres and wheels every time you hit a pothole. Mind you, MG seem to have listened to the criticisms and the facelift model coming next year has more modern styling and lower profile tyres with bigger alloys.

MG bought by cheap fools. By buying a Chinese car, unlike any other purchase, you are directly supporting a Chinese Communist Party owned company and undermining western companies (including from democratic countries like japan and Korea). China are a communist/totalitarian regime, they want slowly dismember western economies. All car companies in China are directly or indirectly owned by the CCP. You are supporting CCP design, technology, and engineering. China are a self proclaimed enemy of western democracy and free people, fact. Buying Chinese cars will change the power dynamic and erode western freedoms. China cannot allow freedom of thought or speech, it is a threat to their regime. They need to extinguish freedom in as many places as possible. All empires/civilisations spread their model. By increasing the power of Chinese companies like MG, we are walking ourselves in to totalitarian control. If you think it seems too far fetched think again. If you think this process will be benign, you are wrong. China will slowly tighten their grip on democracy, it is already starting to happen, they already demand other nations to limit their freedom of speech. On the current course, in the not too distant future, your government will be indirectly controlled by China, your government will impose decisions handed down by China. You will not be able to protest or question these decisions. You, your children, and grandchildren will grow up without any freedom for the rest of your/their lives. As one example China forcibly sterilised and aborted their own women in the 80's, dragged them in to horrific surgeries, now the Uyghurs are being subjected to the same treatment.

Certainly a decent car but there are missing bits in this review: you mention the boot size is rather small compared with similar sized estates. Also, MG's folding seats don't give you flat boot as they don't fold completely, which for an estate car, a deal breaker. The car is also not NCAP tested (no reason to believe it would perform bad, but still). Personally, I don't understand why they copied Passat grill and front design almost 1:1.

Not specifically addressed at this reviewer, but the best way to conserve energy is through momentum. "One pedal driving" is not the way to increase range. Using unwanted momentum is. So the recoup settings should be used with that in mind, basically as you would use engine braking on an internal combustion engine but more aggressively.
@ricco123tube3 жыл бұрын
It's ok but I would rather save up for a bit longer and get something like the excellent eNiro. I'd imagine residuals will be a negative point as well. The initial value would be lost a few years down the road. However, I'm sure that the MG will continue to improve and once they produce and sell fiesta sized ev cars, they may well be a good choice.
@jonathantaylor19983 жыл бұрын
You might be surprised... Looking at equivalent PCP rates on Carwow, the entry-level 2 e-Niro with the Long Range battery pack is £339pm compared to the highest-level Exclusive MG5 Long Range at only £231pm. Don't get me wrong - the e-Niro is undoubtedly a fabulous, super-efficient EV (at least, for an SUV...) but for 99% of the time I'd be certain the MG5 would do pretty much everything family-wise that the e-Niro would do day-to-day... but, £100 per month saving is HUGE...
@mondotv42163 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is the eNiro is quite an old model, built on an ICE platform and with Kia bringing out the much more advanced and much better specced EV6, they’re probably going to plummet in resale as they age. So I think I’d save up for the EV6 instead. They don’t sell the MG5 in Australia, so not an option.

I think the rest of it is perfectly fine many estates look bland but they serve a purpose and this one seems to have forgotten what that purpose is.

"I like a high seating position"...! So, for you and your colleagues to COMPLAIN about the high seating position in the MG5 is kinda contradictory, don't you think...? 😂
@raftonpounder66963 жыл бұрын
Even though you sit high off the road in an SUV does not mean you sit high up IN the car. There’s a vast difference between feeling as if you’re sitting on a car than in it. Having sat in one and being 6'4" it's quite noticeable that with this coming from a modded ice chassis they have had to squeeze those batteries in somewhere without changing the looks of the car. To me, instead of getting rid of the central tunnel to make the floor flat, they have raised the floor to the height of the tunnel. Thus in the back your feet and knees are quite high compared to normal cars and in the front the driving height is higher. This is not noticeable on the zs ev.

Have had one a few weeks/done 12k miles and find review odd as lots of criticisms that seem wrong eg feels really fast and spacious, but misses out things I'd say against it like weak aircon and no front parking sensors... Maybe its what I'm coming from before but to us as a family being able to get one new because of price, after lifetime of old octavias/focuses etc (and with great nhs discount on affinity scheme) it just feels incredible really. Also the trim level summary here misses things out, like keyless entry.

The biggest issue with this new car, it looks like a very old car from early 2000s . To be honest I think this is one of ugliest cars ever made ..

Great video, I've seen one of these on the road and they do look awkward from the outside as they seem to ride high for a modern car.

Looks kinda wonky on those small tyres.. Would have been smarter looking with larger wheels and a inch closer to the asphalt..

With the price of electricity on chargers now and batteries on EV like this which would die at around 200000km it is risk to go with it

Man, it looks just like an older VW Passat from the front. Lazy designers. 🤭
