We put Toyo tires on 3 years ago and have been very happy with their performance and price. I’m confidant that, in an emergency tire situation, I will be able to get a replacement tire from most any truck stop or mobile truck tire service quickly. I’ve heard (horror) stories of people waiting a week or more (interrupting their trip) to source one new Michelin tire after a blowout.

I don't have an RV yet, but videos like this are great for learning, and you guys did an excellent job explaining the process. Tires are common to all rigs, so this is much appreciated. As far as $140 - time is money. Unless you enjoy spending time at a tire store, chasing those phantom charges is time you lost doing something you enjoy. At least in your case it was valuable because we all benefitted from the video. Thank you.

Agreed. We didn't sit at the tire store just waiting on the whole Michelin thing. They were still working on Ruby, between tire install and the front end alignment, they figured it out about the time we were done.

Hi Phil and Stacy Love your videos…. Keep them coming… We didn’t have any discounts when we bought our tires for our RV we have a 2007 Monaco Camelot 42PDQ with a tag axle (8 tires total 295X80X 22.5) we paid a grand total of $3,450.00 out the door for all 8 tires. But we had to drive from Southern California to Lake Havasu to get this deal. All the tire shops locally were around the $5,000.00 to $7,000.00 range. I inspect my tires before every long trip, after the trip, and we replace our tires every 3-4 years regardless of mileage.

Sounds like Michelin is pricing tires like my health care insurance company & local hospital is pricing health care. Seriously, through trial and error, I have found that developing a business relationship with a local dealer is worth its weight in gold. As always - a great, informative video. Can always count on you guys!

Just so happens I watched your video about a month before I planned to replace all 6 of my Class A tires in March 2023. Here's two points of feedback. (1) I didn't have any of the problems you encountered when I used the Michelin Advantage program - it went very smooth and exactly according to the instructions. They must have worked out the kinks with the feedback you guys gave them last year. (2) I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone (who can) use the Michelin Tire Advantage program. My very well known, highly established, very reputable national repair center wanted to charge me $878.34 per tire where Michelin listed the MSRP at $754. Through the Advantage Program, I bought each tire at a discount directly from Michelin for $671 and it was actually a very straight forward process! Phil and Stacy - THANKS for all you do for us new RV'ers and hope our paths will cross as we will start full-time RV'ing this summer for the next few years. BTW Phil - Go Army, Beat Navy (again)! 🙂

Tires were always dressed with 303 protect-ant and always covered. Balancing is another way to extend tire life. Stick on led weights works but as tires wear they need to be re-balanced. Full disclosure, I can neither confirm nor deny I have worked or am working for Michelin;‐). But to the point, BF Goodrich tires are made by Michelin and likely in the same plant on the same processes. Bravo Zulu! Cudos to Phil and Stacey on quality and informative videos. This whole tire thing is basically like everything else in the rV world. The best deal on tires is the one that you made and that satisfies you. The important thing is that you keep an eye on your tires and tire pressure. All tires are made to specific production and safety standards set by DOT. Otherwise, they would not have a DOT stamp on them. Buying tires from a reputable dealer is your best shot at getting the best tires. I went to a truck tire dealer here in Raleigh, NC. He priced Michelins to me and his regular price beat the FMCA discount. Then I asked for a price on the tires that came on my RV, and which gave me great service over the 7 years. Those are the tires I purchased because I was familiar with them. Best of all, the price of those tires installed saved me close to $1,000. That is a lot of diesel, even at these currently inflated prices.

Phil and Stacy, this video was an eye opener for sure. Our 2018 RED has the same Michelin tires as yours. Ours are dated from 2017, so in 2023 we’ll probably replace ours. I had no idea that you really don’t save that much over retail, plus the hassle you went through with dealer not knowing how to enter the Togo RV discount code, then having to call Michelin three days after the installation to find out how much you’re actually being charged. Still, you’re right. You did save a bit of money, so maybe the extra hassle is worth it.

It's too bad the Michelin program didn't work as smoothly for you as one might hope. I had VERY good luck with it this past spring. I'm in NH, I needed 6 new tires for my Sprinter chassis, LT215/85R16115/112R AGILIS CC. I used the FMCA code, found a commercial dealer, verified with them they had the tires and participated in the Advantage program, saved over $70 per tire. Mounting/balancing/etc. was about $120 total to the dealer. I had comparison shopped for those tires without the Advantage program ahead of time, so I knew what I was looking like for savings. No "regional average" charge to Michelin, just the cost of the tires. Actual savings of over $400. I would certainly use the program thru FMCA again.

One thing on DOT numbers, be sure that the place installing the tires, or yourselves fill out the DOT card and send it in. This is how they notify you of recalls or potential issues. The groups of letters before the date code are the plant and mold code and if someone screwed up this is easy to track and for them to contact you. BFG is owned bu Michelin and they’re service is hands down the best. They will typically warranty a tire 100% including labor within the first 2/32” of tread. Need to call Michelin direct and not deal with the store. Same thing for radial pull complaints etc. PITA for the tire shops to process but worth the savings.

At Quartzsite Rally Big Tent, Pete’s Tire (50 years in-business out of So Cal) beat the Michelin program pricing on my last set. Vendors at big rallys & shows often do steep discounts. Metal valve stems do not need replacing. However the valve stem cores do, especially if you use balancing beads. Beads make for a smoother ride and longer lasting tires. Several brands on Amazon but I use Esco beads and E-Z valve stem cores with their SS filter. Buy the beads & stem cores separately and have your installer put the appropriately sized bag(s) and special cores in when you have new tires installed. Those new tires will ride like you are on rails!

@@anthonyarcaro2079 Balancing beads have been used to balance tires for years. The technique began many years ago when truckers started putting golf balls inside their tires to smooth them out. The current iteration of ceramic/plastic beads works especially well in large DP/truck sized tires. Sandra Westley from the UK it is recommended here to change your tyres regardless of wear, every 5 years, our Trailer is stored down on the coast and we have it taken out of storage when we use it, so it’s standing on those tyre year in year out, so change is 5 years. When we travelled all over Europe we have had some strange things happening with tyres, on one journey there was a constant tap tap and we stopped a few time trying to puzzle out what it was, it turn out that the tyre was shedding wires on the inside which we couldn’t see, but when we felt round it, they were sticking out the back, we changed them but took it home to England and returned it to the maker, and received a refund for both tyres on the trailer both were faulty. Also 4 years ago travelling in France we hit something on the Motorway and had a blow out on our tow vehicle on the front wheel, very scary when towing a trailer, we were right along side a slip road and managed to pull up the slip road away from the traffic. Then our jack wouldn’t hold the vehicle up, fortunately we had 2 jacks that managed it.

I will still with FMCA -tried and true-I don’t find many of these RV apps to be that helpful 🤷♀️

Great content. It really helped seeing you go through the actual process.

I just had a tire that lost all it's tread and did some superficial damage to my trailer. Thankfully, nothing worse. Still, that led me to by 10 ply tires. 5 of em, yes, that includes the spare. BTW, I was on I70 east of Glenwood Springs, a horrible highway with tons of potholes. Because of those potholes, I was doing about 45mph and still had the tire get destroyed.

Wow.. so many hoops to jump through and possibly get a discount. Thanks for the information! FYI. I noticed your using a lighting ring. While they are nice that will take some time to perfect. Too much light on you washes out the background. Leave the lights also on in the background and let the lighting ring help add just defined lighting. Doesn't need to overpower. Video editing was on point with the overlay voice track. Nice job!

Thanks Phil & Stacy for this video! We have been researching tires for our rig. We are hitting the road full time in October. We think we will just have them inspected prior to going. Great advice on the tire date/ made date... savings is a savings.. 👍 Chasing RV Sunshine ☀️ Joel, Deb & 🐕 Maya

But after spending the $40 for TOGO Plus you saved $100, Plus spent an extra hour there and had the other headaches. Thanks... I will just call around and find a lower average retailer.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the date code on tires. I just bought new tires online. 2 Firestone steering tires and 4 Radar drive tires. My budget is limited. Has anyone used the balancing beads? My mechanic recommended them.

Totally get a savings but as my father always said who was on the road as an engineer who also swore my Michelin tires , what is your life worth. But a little more paid is a lot of piece of mind. But hey still great info. Safe travels.

First of all I love you guys! Great videos and very important information. This is our first class A Country Coach, I want to able to tow my vehicle, We have a Toyota 4 Runner rear wheel drive. My question is, do I manually disconnect my drive shaft every time I tow it ? How do you guys tow your Jeep ? Thank you!
@todayissomeday3 жыл бұрын
Thanks George! Our Jeep is almost a "attach and go" and we love it. All we have to do is disengage the transfer case and hook it up. We looked in our owners manual to show how to flat tow it. Not sure how your vehicle is to be flat towed. Check the manual.

Thanks for another wonderful video. It sounds to me like if I'm ever in the San Antonio area and want tires, I'm heading directly for Beasley tires. Looking at there pricing and listening to ya'll talk about the service you received I don't think I would consider anywhere else.

Tried Togo, found it lacking, in particular, campground reviews are so critical to my decision process and I found very few available. My comparison are other programs like RV trip wizard Free roam, etc. I'm sure Togo will improve with user input over time, but for me, unless someone can show me I was doing something wrong, I'm using other programs.
