It was time to take a look at the F2.

I've had this tent for over three years now and have never had any problems with it. I've been through thunderstorms, rain showers, 3" of snow, and never had any problems with it. Always been dry inside. The ventilation problems people have complained about are non existent if you set the tent up properly. Just as the reviewer mentioned, you have to have long guy ropes at the tops to fully extend the tent with no bowing in the middle. As the reviewer mentions, this allows the mesh at the top of the tent to be open and not covered by the flaps. I paid 30.00 for this tent on sale, non issued, so brand new. It was a steal. I'm getting ready to head out to the wilds for my 2-3 weeks of annual deer hunting, and will be staying in this tent for the duration.

Its a great tent. The only time mine has leaked was back in the summer when we had heavy rain all night. No bad leaks, but I did get a small amount of water come in on one end. The wind was blowing the rain against the doors and it looked like the small fabric loops that you use to tie back the doors were working like a dripline. No complaints though, It was a very wet night and I stayed dry. 👍

My son and I each have one of those tents and I modified mine a bit by adding loops to each of the stake points as well as replacing all the steel stakes wiht aluminum ones and replacing the poles with Hiking poles to help reduce the overall weight. Just to be on the safe side rewaterproof this tent every season. I waterproofed ours before we took them on the trail for a backpacking trip

Only place mine lets in a little water is where the fabric door ties are stitched through the sides. Even then, its only a little on very wet nights.

I remember those tents from cub scout's. As long as you did not touch the fabric when it rained they would not leak. Unlike all these modern tents they don't collapse down on top of you in a windstorm. My daughter once insisted on pitching our tent under a gumtree that was shedding . I tried to warn her but she knew better. The crap from the tree made the tent leak badly when it rained. Leaves, seeds, gum resin. They all screw up the waterproofing. Personally I can't help thinking a lot of modern tents are over complicated and overrated. I have learned to hate those glassfibre poles with the elastic in them. Not nearly as stiff and strong as the old vertical aluminium tube poles. You don't need an instruction manual to raise those old school tents either. Proper job.

These vary. Some are canvas f1. Some f2's have one or two doors with bug screens. Not sure how to know. I bought two and they were very different.

They were in production for a long time and the design changed over the years. The F1 with the extra fly sheet is the holy grail, but they are hard to find.

I slept in this for 3 nights in west cork Ireland it was perfect even in the rain, I also managed to get a British army issued camp bed inside it.

A lightweight version of the original force 10 we used in the Air cadets (ATC), did ten tours and DofE in one, just don't touch the sides. If i remember most ridge tents have a ridge pole to stop them sagging, but if you lost the rubber cap water would piss through the hole in the outer skin. 🤣 Looks a good tent fot the money, i look forward to your first rainy camp out with it. 🤣 🤣

They originally came with a fly sheet that went over it like a second skin. They got some in at Military Mart that still had the extra tarp bit, sadly on mine, even though it was unused, the rubberised waterproof coating was peeling off the floor because of its age (it was a canvas one). I sent it back, though I wish I’d kept it for the fly sheet as I’ve never seen any anywhere else that come with that part.

There's some common black rubber type spray the guys were talking about. It is used to repair peeling on underside of top lid of Alice Pack. This is sometimes used to store soft items /charts/maps. Everyone swears by it. Might work for tent/tarp repair. Will test out rubberized spray for ground cloth and post here results.

I can attest to this. I put my DPM basha over the top of this french tent, propped up with hiking poles. Never had any issues with the tent in Scottish weather. Superb bit of kit

I bought 3 of these French Surplus Army tents 7 plus years ago', all was used but in very good shape. They are very good for summer and fall. I bought mine from Sportsman Guide under 30 dollars each. I still have all 3 and still use them, they do the job. They in no way a cold weather tent

Yeah I personally think there's too many people out there who don't know how to put up A-tent they think what you pull up the guy lines and stake it down it's supposed to be set they don't know how to adjust and make everything pull everything taught they just want to wine and complained that there's something wrong with the tent when they don't realize that they're not smart enough to put a tent up

I am currently looking for a new tent. I quite like the look of these. I am 5'11 and I always find normal dome tents quite cramped and stuffy. It looks well vented. I'd be interested to see how they perform in terms of condensation on one of the 30c plus nights we get here in the middle of summer.

Was tempted on this one, especially when they were $39 US...however concerned about leaks as noted in several reviews. Possibly cured by seam sealer or set up technic? Will be interested to see your experience with it. Great video as usual 👌
