if they're made in Germany, the only manufacturer, that I recall is Davinci-Defet. Their series 1522 (Ussuri sable) comes close to Monument pro sable and are cheaper in their set in sizes of 6,4,2,1,0, which is 22€ for the set

I ordered these about 6 to 9 months ago and have never looked back. Not intentional. It just happened. I think you said in one of your starter tool videos you try brushes until you find what you like and you will know when you like it. I have yet to go back to my Windsor and Newton Series 7’s or Raphael 8404’s Every time I decided to use one those I find myself finishing with one of the pro sables. Odd but not that Odd I guess. I really don’t think there is a bad sable and I have tried my fair share. I think there is the right brush for everyone. I think the price is excellent. I have spent 13 to 20+ bucks per brush for higher end name brands so 11 is a steel for me. But if you don’t know how to take care of a good brush then it just doesn’t matter what you buy!! Great video!!!!! Thanks!!!

Some of mine split on first use. 2 of them already have bristles sticking out at sharp angles. I had some W&N last for around 4-5 years just before I bought this set, so I don't abuse my brushes. Extremely disappointed by them, but I could have just got a couple lemons. I have a feeling over the last 2 years quality control has dropped in the hobby industry in general.

@@VinceVenturella Thanks for the reply. I bought a few W&N Series 7 to replace these replacements, and some of the same issues popped up, in a less extreme manner. I think companies are just having a hard time sourcing quality sable and are dealing with production and logistics issues since 2020. Just got to take it all in stride, since we are still spoiled with choices compared to the 80s and 90s.

@StormcastMarine

You're asking Vince... but my two cents. I own 8404 and Monument pro sable. I find the monument brush too soft, I can't get it to hold a point. Maybe if you find the 8404 too hard you'll like the monument brush. Can't believe Vince said in this video that they are similar, he obviously knows what he's talking about, but that hasn't been my experience at all.

Very interesting review! But I have a difficult question: could you recommend top quality synthetics? Yes, I know the difference, yes I agree that if you are looking for the best quality sables are the only option. But I do not buy natural brushes, I’m vegan. It’s definitely not a place to discuss ethical problems, so let’s stay with brushes. So, what is the best, ultimate synthetic brush you can recommend? I discover more and more top quality synthetics, I have my own favourites, but I would like to explore more, so I’m asking. Bests!

I am having issues liking pro acryl paints outside their metallic which are nice for brush, it's not the paints problem per say (tho some give me issues) it's the limitations of the medium in them, I do believe for certain audiences they are perfect and I absolutely love the pyrule red I think it's called? But their lifetime on wet palette is too short for my liking and I find them not really performing as well as I like in my climate. Honestly it's a hard time to be a hobby paint brand I find as we got so many good options, personally I'm having trouble wanting to use any paint that's not ak interactive 3rd gen, kimera or GSW (fluors/metal pigments/pigments in general tbh, etc but not their normal acrylic paints as I haven't tried those). It doesn't come down to how good the one's I use are, It comes down to the lack of downsides or restrictions. So seeing this review is interesting, [edited from this point because I'm a dummy] the price on these brushes seems really really really good for natural kolinsky sable brushes. Unless of course they aren't kolinsky and just another type of sable?
@christopherheintz2634
@christopherheintz2634 2 жыл бұрын
These are kolinsky sable brushes. Their synthetic line is also pretty good, but you're paying a premium for them in the UK. They're a US based brand so they're one of the few that are cheap for us.
@nameisbad
@nameisbad 2 жыл бұрын
@@christopherheintz2634 I'm not sure why I thought these were synthetic, my bad! If that is so this is quite cheap for kolinsky sable, which is strange as brushes made out of the weasels hair are usually expensive for good ones, this pack is the same price as a single size 5 series 7 winsor brush. That makes these a surprisingly good deal hmm.
@nameisbad
@nameisbad 2 жыл бұрын
@@christopherheintz2634 Actually are you sure these are kolinsky? that's a specific type of hair that's actually not sabel even tho it's called that, it's made from a specific type of siberian weasel.

I recently tried Da Vinci brushes, they're pretty good. I got some Red Grass Games brushes with my wet pallette from their kick-starter and they're a bit weird, the bristles feel like a synthetic but they're definitely sable, it's quite odd. I want to try some Monument Hobby brushes as I've seen a video about their quality control but they're difficult to get in the U.K. so for now my main brushes are Rosemary & Co which are excellent brushes and much cheaper than any other sable brush I've used.

Yep, sadly they are out of business so no more brushes which sucks because they’re amazing brushes.

@@jeremyhauck960 where did you hear about it? I've only seen radio silence. Did they announce this anywhere?

Their website is still up. I’ve just sent an enquiry via the web form and it showed as ‘received’.

Yes, they are moving their production to here in the states soon. I do like these quite a bit as well (they do have a higher snap than the 8404s I mentioned), so when they are back, you may want to pick them up and give a test.

Too bad brushes which are made in Germany can't be purchased easily (or without hefty price increase) in Germany

Hmmm. Maybe it would be possible to figure out the manufacturer and buy from them 🤔. Maybe they sell similar ones under a different label... Edit: they are available at pk-pro

Sable Hair brushes? This is a pretty shit thing to be pushing. The bodies are basically just skinned and wasted.

It is made from the tail. The (better) hair is primarily from Russia, but more and more is being exported from China - where, in fact, they are considered vermin no better than rats (due to their numbers) and are exterminated wholesale. So, instead of trapping and either drowning , burning them alive, or poisoning them as useless waste, people are benefiting from them and do not destroy them as readily. Fortunately, some Russians are trying to shear the tails for sustainable resource instead of killing them.
