The very first game like this I remember was Hollywood Mogul from 1993 (yeah long before they used tycoon in every title)

We crave new The Movies, but get another GameDev Tycoon 😢 Don't get me wrong, they are both amazing, but the movies is one of a kind to this day.

I thought the isometric scene could be a scene for movie shots where funny movie scenes could happen, but it seems the most exciting action actually happening was staff sitting on chairs smashing keyboards. The whole gameplay's presentation seems to be interacting with the UI and reward be numbers in the UI. yeah, tycoony but not funny.

The problem I have with this type of game is that it NEVER teaches or explains to you for allocating resources on those sliders, what is more important for each genre. How am I supposed to know if writing or set design is more important for sci fi if you never give me the tools to figure it out?

Experiment, isolate variables and figure out. Moreover once product is done they often give you reviews which tell you what to improve. In this particular game reviews are not particularly compelling, but they probably will improve on it. Its genre standard

I'm pretty sure that the "Unlocked Insights" section of a movie analysis tell you that. I would not be surprised if the corresponding sliders would also indicate it afterward (but can't be sure of it since Orbital Potato didn't do any movies sharing a genre or a theme.

@@mrmendeleev I hope they do. It's what I don't like about the genre standard 'oh this did okay' but it doesn't say 'why' it did okay and what I should tweak, just that I should tweak something

Researching published games in GameDev Tycoon gives you indicators on sliders depending what you learned.
