@@thomasdequincey5811 KZbin has a video of a group of social studies teachers from the mid-West areas who collected all the history books they could find and examined them throughout time showing how things changed. At the end they showed versions of history books from the same publishers for various parts of the country and pointed out how it has always been that way. They weren't making political statements, most of the time was in early history, sometimes simple details and what a war was called. People who had their popularity changed with time, all kinds of interesting facts about the past. Try Mr. Bean on KZbin and look in the archives.

Entitlement makes a person believe that they have the right to speak and act in any way they want and be immune to criticism or consecuences. "Cancel culture" is just shifting the blame to others instead of engaging in dialog and taking responsibility. On the other hand, bullying and mobbing someone for their words or actions is not something new, but in the age of social media has become more common and normalized, because is easier to avoid dialog by making noise.

Cancel culture can also have bad consequences for people just having agency enough to try speaking for themselves or trying to point out faults in our society. It might not be "new", but it is still as dangerous as back when we used to stone women doing nothing more than wanting to live their own lives, act on their own behalf, and not be forced into marriage...
