I have a 2020 Landcruiser 4.5 V8. Can I do this conversion on it ? Will it help with fuel efficiency?

4K is a lot of Diesel and 2350 RPM is bang on the Peak of the Power curve and the best AFR...and lowest EGT....Not so sure this new Box is such a good idea...2k RPM is not lugging but still, the 5th gear is also smaller and will generate more heat. Old Box for big Hauling new box for those that don't tow...cause you wont get better economy with this new Box unless you MAP the Engine to suit. The only time you will get better economy is unloaded

i guess this is an option for buying a 2016 cruizer then chucking the 17box in to get the taller gear without having the issue with the dpf. woner how much toyota charge for the trans

What's the fuel economy like now? Some people say that they see no difference in fuel economy 🤔?? If towing a heavy caravan 3t + you prob leave it in 4th anyways so there's no advantage sit on 85kmh=2000rpm 33's if your in no hurry. I see the advantage if your in 5th not towing

i have a 70 series land cruiser and the engine is 1kz. Its having problems with building up pressure in the chamber and so has a hard start. what can i do

You can but by the time you buy parts and labour there isnt too much $$ difference between the 2. Fitting the new gearbox you can then sell your old gearbox to recoup some of the money spent.

I'll need to keep an eye out for these here in Africa as getting a gearbox here... I might as well ship a new truck. :S Noticed you mentioned being able to change out both 2nd and 5th gears into the old case. Would you have to do both or can you just swap out 5th. Been wanting to do this with Safari's upgrade on my '05 HZJ78 but they stopped making it.

navy Guy new box is $3800 with full Toyota warranty. You can sell your old box for anywhere from $1000-$1800 depending whats for sale and who needs one at the time so when you take that off the cost its a pretty good changeover.

If the vehicle is not required to do severe duty 4wding, wouldn't it be much easier and far more cheaper to change the final drive ratio at the axle?

It is a possibility but if you price both options up - genuine parts - it can come up around the same price. Also you lose your low range gearing which most use over here. Once you work out what you sell your old gearbox for and the swap over price, its the best value option on the market.

Our dual cab has been fine with factory gearing and we run that on 35's and have done from when we got it. Without our power upgrade they are sluggish though.

This customer works away so in next few weeks when he is back we should know fuel figures. We upgraded his car to a Unichip as well so as an honest back to back we wont know if the fuel savings are all gearbox or our tuning as well.
