Everyone reading these comments “Buy these Guys a Coffee”!!! Bill and Mike, I thank you for your passion and devotion in the development of processes to make the average Astrophotographer a master of his hobby. Having spent hours in the past to produce an acceptable image, your processes make it quick and simple to do the same. My results using your tools are incredible and now, processing is a delight instead of a chore.

@AnotherAstroChannel Do we need Non-Linear data? I mean, do we gain or lose anything instead of using Linear data?

The advantage of non-linear data is that you can use lightness control feature to enhance the image. You cannot use lightness when linear.

I appreciate the work you've done helping the astrophotography community and I've purchased several of your products used in Pixinsight. I have a question concerning support for your XTerminator products pertaining to customers running AMD GPU's. I know CUDA acceleration helps performance with nvidia cards, but it's my understanding that PyTorch using AMD's ROCm technology could possibly allow AMD GPU users to use CUDA as well. I'm wondering if you're exploring this potential option for enhancing product performance for your AMD GPU customers? It's my understanding that you've created a simplified setup process for your customers using nvidia GPU's. Thanks again.

Hi Bill et al, to combat the Bortle 4-5 conditions I was recommended to purchase the OPT Triad Ultra Filter, which has NB for Hb (Blue), OIII Green), Ha and SII (both Red) as per the supplied spectrum. I failed to find any tutorial or information on how to NB process these OSC images in PI. None of the Paelette options (HOO, SHO, etc) seem to suit my images. Anyone out there who can enlighten me and perhaps others? Cheers, Hans Feitz - Sydney

So far its interresting playing around with the tool, as i never found a way to process NB Data that satisfied me. If you are using Mono Camera data, how would you initially prepare the images? For instance you only have Ha and OIII. Would you combine them as an rgb with Ha assigned to Red and OIII to Blue and green, stretch them and neutralize the background? Would you do a linear fit? And the same question I am asking myself for HSO data. Thank you.
@billblanshan3021
@billblanshan3021 10 ай бұрын
The only thing that you need to do is do a channel combination with the data that you have, then you can do the background extraction because it will neutralize the background that way, otherwise if you don't need to do background extraction you just need to do background neutralization. Once you have done that you can do narrowband normalization as linear or you can do it later on in the process after you have stretched it which is what I recommend because we have lightness control which you can only use on nonlinear images.

This is insanely awesome! thanks a lot Bill and Mike for putting this together! I have just a question in order to adjust my NB workflow with this new tool. I use a mono camera and normally combine the NB channels with SHO palette. If I decide processing the data in non-linear state, would make any difference to strech each NB channel individually? or I can combine the SHO image in linea state, strech it all together, and this tool will have still all the margin to boost the fainter OIII and SII signals?
@anotherastrochannel2173
@anotherastrochannel2173 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice comment! To answer your question, the point of NBN process is so you dont have to individially stretch your channels, the script is doing it for you thus save you a lot of time and gives you a real time preview of the changes you make while maintaining background neutralized. It is up to you on if you want to further stretch your channels individually after NBN. I hope this naswers your question :-)

I am still hesitant to update to the latest PI version as everything is working perfect, including CUDA. In the past, I have had to spend several hours getting CUDA to work correctly again....so....I was unable to try out this new Narrowband Normalization process. THEN....you modified it to work with the old PI version! I just tried it and, once again, you guys are Super Heroes. Similar to other comments, in the past, I have spent a lot of time changing stretches, curves, etc. to achieve my desired result with NB images. @anotherastrochannel2173
@anotherastrochannel2173 Жыл бұрын
What would we be normalizing too though? We need to refeence a channel to normalize too, as this process by default will normalize to the Ha channel. You can take RGB data that was made via LRGB (must be non-linear data for LRGB combo) and run it via Normalization, SHO mode would normalize to the green channel and HSO mode would normalize to the Red channel. Does that make sense?

Amazing tools - making a process with a real time preview really boosts what can be achieved compared to the earlier pixel math scripts. Using masks for the Adjustment tools gives GHS like control which is another big advantage. A million thanks.

At 27:28 for the SHO example, you say S is assigned to GREEN, H is assigned to RED, O is assigned to BLUE. Did you mean to say S to RED, H to Green?

This all depends on the target and how you stretched it. Just add saturation after, which is what I recommended in the video.

Marvelous, Bill. Thank you. Is there any chance you could address workflow for mono images, that is, SHO mono? I have done two versions of NGC6888 with SHO and HOO palettes, and am confused, especially in HOO, as to what role the Oiii images play in producing green. Following your hints, I ran NBN against the linear images, and then again after HT stretch to add in the Ha as lightness, but I think there is more I could be doing with the script.

I covered a SHO image in the video, just sure what else I can go over, can you explain?.
@pieterstrauss3158
@pieterstrauss3158 Жыл бұрын
@@billblanshan3021 Thanks for responding, Bill. My results were not awful, but, since you cover OSC in greater detail than mono, I got a bit lost. I wanted to use NBN to create a HOO image, and got an image with no green, at least to my untutored eye. Let me work the process over (and watch the video several more times) and get back to you if I can't figure out my issue. And thanks! By the way, I"m aware that these offerings sometimes have a "Buy Him a Beer" button, but for the life of me I can't find it. I owe you several beers.

The requirement of 1.8.9-2 is a non-starter. The current build 8/28 has major performance issues, some bugs and is too sluggish to use. I just stepped back one release. Can this be made to run on 1.8.9-1?

Simply put, your wonderful tools put the joy into and stress out of processing data. Thank you. For NB data, what main steps do you take in producing the non linear image? Apart from the basic steps (crop, background, align) do you then just do channel combination and an unlinked stretch (your script)? Cheers, Des
