Are they going to the South Pole to look for water? I mean we already know there is water but to confirm it in person is another thing. It sparks momentum. If it’s there we can mine it. Which is a critical step to putting habs on the moon. Which will be invaluable experience to replicate on mars. Then from there, the rest of the system. It’s not just about exploration. There are so many resources out there. We don’t have to fight over the limited ones we have on this rock. I know it’s hard for people to understand but looking to space actually does solve our problems we have here.

Wait a minute... the moon is 400 below zero. On another science topic, why not we build quantum computers on the moon? It would be cold enough to reduce noise. Could we send radio signals to communicate with systems for repairs? And program a robot/rover to do them instead of people? If we needed more supplies, send them via rocket!
@Pinebox-vo9te

Uh, well, No. Alike earth the moons temperature depends upon contact to sunlight. It can get well over 250 degrees Fahrenheit. With no atmosphere for protection, it acts alot more predictably, primarily because when not in contact with sunlight, the surface gets to near around negative 208. About the radio signals, Uh, yeah? They’re an EM wave. They need to be amplified by relay satellites typically. About “cold enough to reduce the noise” there wouldn’t be noise period, its a vacuum. For robots made for repair, that I believe is in the works for Post SLS B1 missions, and surface + orbital supplies via automated LV’s is planned. Primarily with Dragon XL to LGWSS, and I believe with Blue origin for surface resupply.

Private companies have built almost the entirety of our space industry, as well as our military. Only the actual rocket section of the Saturn V was built in-house for example, the suits and everything else was contracted. The difference now is that NASA lets them advertise it themselves. Plus, they’re all American companies, and it’s all made in the USA. It’s still a win.

Besides the two points already posted, you also have to consider the difference in budget between Apollo and Artimus. In today's dollars, each Apollo launch cost roughly $22.6 billion vs $8 billion for each Artimus launch. The issue wasn't that they couldn't do it, it was that they couldn't do it in time for 2025 on a little over the 1/3 the budget.

Comments like this are so incredibly ignorant. The private companies had 90% of the research and development done for them over 15 years. And general technologies they are using to assist them, including robotics, has come a long way as well. Add to this, the fact the private contractors have a larger bandwidth of talent to bring in than NASA… the list goes on and on. The next time you make such a rhetorical and ignorant statement, keep it to yourself.

If they used a regular flag on the moon it would just hang limply because there is no atmosphere to make it flutter. So they put a rod in the top to stretch it out so you can see the design. Fun fact: the first flag on the moon fell over when the lander took off again as it was placed too close and got hit with the dust thrown up by the engine. It is likely covered by dirt and is the only flag that still retains its colours because it is protected from UV light by the Sun. All the other flags placed are now bleached white from the sunlight.

What’s with the black and red color? Hard to see against the blackness of space. I hate these even more than the last versions that were blue and white like the Russian suits. White suits are our traditional color (perhaps silver too) and would help with temperature regulation since the astronauts wear water-cooled underwear so they don’t overheat during an EVA. Those cramped arm holes just look really painful too. I can’t imagine the discomfort from an 8 hour EVA with their arms confined like that.

LOL at all the comments by people on here who actually believe that NASA is going to go 'back' to the Moon in their lifetime... Just laughable. There will be excuse after excuse, delay after delay, for DECADES, and they will never, ever get to the Moon...

I believe thats in the plans for Artie 3, alongside a female astro for the two landing. We won’t know until April though, lol.

I like the new spacesuit, much better than SpaceX's bland white, just a little too dark though.

Yes the dark cover is super ugly. (Space-X suits are the ugliest, I agree.) NASA suits are beautiful. This covering is meant to cover the technology from the public since it i$ propritary now. However, the covering will be white on the moon.

@Clive yes , its ugly. No science behind the dark colored cover. It's function is to hide the science from the public. Suit technology is now viewed by these companies as proprietary, so there is alot the public won't get to know. It's sad NASA gave up on their amazing suit.

You do realize that a space suit for simple orbiting is different from a space suit for space walking and even walking on the moon.
@UsedToaster
@UsedToaster Жыл бұрын
@Clive the two suits have different uses. One is for outside the ship.. the other is for only being in the ship on life support in the event of a breach

@@studiosandrock I'm sure he knows that the SpaceX suit is not for moon walking...but regardless, it's still cheesy looking.

Those... scenes... the video of the astronauts falling over on the moon and getting back up again... I know that my mind is telling me one thing and everything I've learned in the history books, etc. ... but my gut..... I just can't get rid of that feeling I get in my gut when I watch those clips.... there's always a small, but persistent.. gnawing feeling in my gut....

I’d hardly call space development useless. Earth-borne resources are finite, and space development will give us access to nearly infinite deep-space resources. Capturing and mining just a single small asteroid would grant trillions of dollars of materials.
