This is the new Nassau Arrivals terminal. All cruise guests arriving here 1/1/24 and later will incur an increase in the port taxes .

Awesome video tour. We will add a visit to the Junkanoo museum during our cruise in May. I’m excited to learn more about the Bahamian culture.

Super!!! Watch out for the gelato place. It looks really good with so many enticing flavors and free samples. But it’s expensive! $15 for a cup with 3 small scoops I believe.

Looks like a less hectic way to do a little shopping without getting hassled on the streets. Going in march and was going to stay on the ship but I think I will check it out. Great informative video

I've seen people comment on other boards that they had their cruise paid in full and then this $31 was added to their bill. Had they not happened to see it, their cruise reservation may have been canceled if they had not paid this $31 by the time final payment was due. Just something to be aware of if you have already made final payment...make sure you have no remaining balance due.
@RoyalCaribbeanCruiseChronicles Жыл бұрын
That’s exactly the case. As I said I wish they would have just added the additional tax for new bookings after they announced this.

When I bring friends to the Queens Staircase, I seek out the locals to give the tour. I love the stories and background info. We always bring a little cash for the fort and tips for the tour guys. 😀

I would gladly pay that extra for a port area improvement I could get off and enjoy. People complained,, they improved it,, and people still complain.. I do not happily pay increased gratuities to have my services cut in half, room service go to per item pricing, or to pay $2.50 for a warmed up cookie. And now 140% increase in Sam's Club equivalent bottled water in under a year

For the first time in, I don't know how many Nassau stops, I'll actually get off the ship again. Are there trams like Cococay for those unable to make the longer schlep down the pier and back?

If a measley $31 pp helps support a better experience, why complain? We were there last year & were absolutely bombarded by unlicensed taxi drivers, etc. I like that they are aware how bad of a reputation they had developed, and taken steps to make the cruisers' experience better & safer. From what I've read, all the vendors are local, licensed & entered into an agreement not to increase prices from their other shops, in order to have a shop there. How can you expect an industry who lost BILLIONS during the shutdown, to pay your abs every other cruiser's $31 increase? If you don't like the increase, don't cruise.

Fair. I don’t think there’s one person cancelling cruises over this increase. It certainly is a huge improvement over what was here previously. It’s like a toll road. We pay a little more for using the new facilities. My only gripe is I wish Bahamas could have told Royal the increase was effective for all new bookings after that announced instead of retroactive. It just makes it more difficult to track every reservation down that already paid in full to collect more money. I guess that would have been harder for them to set the bar.

. I believe that the fee was announced. It was actually supposed to go info effect sooner than Jan 1 but was pushed back. I'm totally fine with paying it.

It appears you pay more to walk farther, allowing for more & more cruise ships. The benefit really being for the cruise ship companies, not so much for you or I. Some may like this better, having a few attractions that don't require you to be out in the city, but it seems like kind of a fake/commercialized/Americanized experience. Perhaps I'm stuck in the past, but I enjoyed getting off the ship & within a couple minutes jumping into a shady taxi with some others, driven by a Bahamian race car driver or haggling with people in the straw market.
@RoyalCaribbeanCruiseChronicles9 ай бұрын
Fair comments. One thing I like is this port area is clean and safe and people don't pounce on you. Its also more civilized to get a taxi. With that said, I hardly ever get off the ship here anyway. I've been so many times it gets old.

I see no benches and ALOT of walking. Not conducive to the bad knees of the older cruisers. Looks beautiful - but please add rest areas! This is so much walking with no place to sit down for a minute.
@RoyalCaribbeanCruiseChronicles Жыл бұрын
That’s a great comment. There are Shuttles from the ship to the arrivals terminal. I know there’s SOME benches but I didn’t notice if there should be more. I’ll have to go back and watch.

So we're paying to go to a mall??? Nothing like supporting the locals @ a centralized commercial property 100' from the ship...🖕
@RoyalCaribbeanCruiseChronicles Жыл бұрын
Yeah we are partially funding their infrastructure. Whether we like it or not.
@craigc1463 Жыл бұрын
More like they are creating infrastructure for the vendors that can afford or be approved to sell here. it too bad tourism $ can't go to locals unless they can afford to pay to be a vendor in the "Mall"@@RoyalCaribbeanCruiseChronicles
@constantinosgreek124 ай бұрын
As sad as it is, the majority of the funding for the renovation to our cruise port came from foreign investors. As a result, they're trying to discourage people from exiting the cruise port. It's better for them if the tourists stay in the port area after all. There was a point where the exits to the downtown area were partially concealed to make it more difficult to find em. That was addressed already and I believe they were warned about that tho.
