I was a pier runner in Acapulco a few years ago, due to ship vs. port time confusion and my stupidity. Thought I was 30 minutes early, but was actually 30 minutes late. So lucky they waited. Very humiliating - deservedly so.

Oh no. That stinks. We got confused a few years ago on ship time/local time but left plenty of cushion. I’m paranoid about missing the ship. Glad it worked out and thanks for watching.

We were on a cruise in Alaska and in the area of the glaciers. All of a sudden here comes an excursion with A LOT of people on it. As it was a NCL excursion, they were delivered very late back to the ship by the tour excursion company. I will be taking my 42nd cruise all on NCL next month, this was the most interesting one due to tour company being late.

Some itineraries are better left for ship excursions for this reason. Others we prefer to book smaller independent excursions.

We took our first cruise this summer, to Alaska. The ship made very clear what port time was and when we were due back and never tried to have “ship time”, which is a ludicrous concept.

It amazes me how many people run to make the ship, and even miss it! We are always back VERY early!

I was on RCCL Radiance 4th-11th Nov 2023, their was a pier runner/walker st the Costa Maya Port, she seemed to b very very intoxicated & confused bcuz she was back & forth between 3 different ships Radiance included, and CM Port is lllllloooooonnnnnnggggg, also she was struggling with a large heavy looking tote bag. She was weaving all over the pier, Officers from Allure had to assist her. It was hilarious. Did not get to videotape it my phone battery had died 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I agree with you that it’s best to be back at the ship at least one hour before all aboard time which is usually 90 minutes before the ship is scheduled to depart.

I saw pier runners my very first criuse back in 1989. We were leaving San Juan, we were supz to be back by 1am thats when you vould go out and party. Im a night owl so i saw alot of ppl miss the ship. I guess ppl thought the ship wouldnt leave them. That ead devasting for s ot of passengers thst said it was wrong for them to leave. As you know they give instructions and ppl just dont listen. They gone learn today!😢

Have seen a family get there just after the ship left. They were vey luck and able to get a pilot, probably at a step price, to bring them to the ship.

Please call it a gangway instead of a ramp. It helps me with my fantasy of cruising someday. I’m on my second passport and no stamps. I have got to get a life, but not today, I have to catch the senior citizen bus to the market 😄.

We have seen a crew member that had to jump from the pier in Aruba in order to get back on! As we know, once they pull out , they can not pull back in.

My anxiety and petrifying fear of being embarrassed could never let me be a pier runner. I rather leave all my stuff than face that kind of embarrassment. Just give me my passport and I'll fly to the next port.

I don't understand why these people are late for the ship they tell you before you get off the ship what time they going to depart. I have been on many cruises I'm always back least 3 hours before departure.

I’m not sure who the biggest losers are: The clowns that are unable / unwilling to tell time. Stupidity or ignorance. OR The ones who choose to gawk at the above clowns. Especially the ones who cheer, encouraging similar behavior at the next port of call. The jeerers? Amusing yes (feel better about yourselves?), but I’d rather be at a bar or in the pool.
