Many thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this video. I upgraded my NEQ6 yesterday with this wedge and found the process a whole lot easier with your guidance. I even managed to get some observing time in before the clouds rolled in! This is a super upgrade and makes polar alignment so much easier. Thanks and keep up the good work. Gareth

Many thanks for the great video. Have just completed the modification with the aid of the video - all the more useful as no instructions are supplied.

Hi Dion, Many thanks. Thankfully I bought it from Bernard and he has asked me to contact him. But more importantly it's really nice of you to come back. By the way the polemaster I bought from Modern astronomy is a dream. I have posted a comment on your video. Thanks.

This looks like a great piece of equipment. I've had nothing but trouble with my Eq5 altitude bolts, breaking and jamming
@TheZ3roCool4 жыл бұрын
Why have I not found this sooner! I bought my NEQ6 2 years ago and it has bent the original bolts and almost chewed through a second bolt! Pricey but looks bloody brilliant bit of engineering. The Altitude bolts on this mount just depresses me living at 52 Lat. Almost stopped me setting up on occasions as have to adjust every time I image. Thanks for running through this.
@timetrialfanatic3 жыл бұрын
I had the same issues. Im am living at 52° lat, too. Bought the wedge and now polar alignment is sooo smooth and easy.

Flipping heck, I've had exactly the same problem as you, I bent the original bolts trying to remove them. I retaped the hole to take a larger bolt but over stiffness still persist. I have only just ordered one of these.

Looks good Dion. Strong, sleek and effective.

Being new to this issue, I wasn't really clear what the specific problem was here with the EQ6/NEQ6. What's wrong with the bolts you referred to earlier? Why do they need replacing? And given this was made 4 years back, has the problem been resolved by the manufacturer?

Thanks for the preview Dion, you are an astro-legend by now. My mount too suffers from the banana bolts, this looks like the perfect fix. Hopefully they are available outside of the UK too.

This is a brilliant upgrade and was the primary reason why I went for the AZ-EQ6 over the NEQ6. It would be nice to see a similarly designed solution for adjusting the azimuth on these series of mounts; even with upgraded adjustment bolts it is difficult to achieve fine-grain adjustments to the azimuth when the mount is approaching peak load.

2018 and you still need to do up and undo bolts to move the dec. why? They can’t engineer a way to just have one bolt to move the dec?

hi - you should do a review on some of the portable mounts. As the UK weather is so rubbish, I need to set up so quickly and need portability now. I hope to get the new Fornax mount soon.

Hi Dion, Another well crafted video and thanks for this. i have this unit ( bought from Bernard) and it seems to slip when I put the eq6 counter weight on the rod. Hmm I will try to follow your video and see if thins will change. Also you can't buy it at eq6wedge. Thanks for the video.

Great Video dion. I noticed you had some metal plates over the top of the part where your alt bolts push onto to move the mount up and down. I have a EQ5 and i noticed the metal is that soft that that when my alt bolts push against it ,it is actually burrowing a dent into the plate. I have just bought a NEQ6 which will be here anyday now. Does it come with the metal plates over the part where the alt bolts push onto? or is that a modification that you did?
@astronomyshed10 жыл бұрын
It was a mod I did, it's 1mm stainless plate that I cut and shaped and then epoxied to the mount section.

HI Dion, had a go at the wedge again. it's all good if you do all the adjustment without the weights. As soon as you put the weights then the mount is not happy and won't move up. I thought best practice demands that you have all you gear loaded on the mount before doing polar alignment? Please advise. Thanks.

Hi there. I have recently bought the NEQ6 second hand which has the wedge upgrade kit installed. I am having an issue with the mount falling forward when counterweights are put on (three of them, as using the skywatcher 250pds). Everything seems to be tight but still falls forward (I learned the hard way when i took my scope off the mount one night and the counterweights smashed against the tripod leg! :/)
@astronomyshed Жыл бұрын
Sounds like the wedge has been badly fitted and is slipping, have a look for installation instructions for the wedge, you may have to take it apart and redo it.
@GeorgeThomas-jc9km Жыл бұрын
@@astronomyshed thanks for the quick reply, I've taken it apart and gave it all a good clean and re-installed it all. It defiantly seems to be holding a bit better now!
@astronomyshed Жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeThomas-jc9km Depending on which model (early vs late versions) the later ones I think had screws preventing the slip. From memory, on mine I used some sort of epoxy I think, might even have been silicone as mine was one of the first ever made, I tested a prototype before that which needed some changes.

I just got this mount today and broke it within 10 minutes, the bolt bent inside, i want to remove it but i need to get the cover off without scratching anything or breaking it, i tried a hairdryer but it's not powerful enough

Hi, I have 2 questions about this product. 1) Does it increase the latitude range that the mount can be used? In other words does it make possible to use the EQ6/Atlas mount at low latitudes such as 6 degrees? 2) Is it compatible with newly introduced EQ6-R and EQ8/HDX 110? Thank you.

Ariana Grande This would be at the very top end of the limits for an NEQ6, better to either go for NEQ8 or instead go for the 8 inch carbon quattro, I had the 8 inch carbon and loved it.

Dion any idea what the white plastic peg is used for
@astronomyshed10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a stop, see the 2 holes in the base plate? Insert the peg into the nearest one to the stub on the base of the mount it will fit into, In effect it's an emergency stop if anything slips. You can just see it if you look at the big picture here :- www.eq6wedge.com/

IMCDundee1 Well, despite the youtube channel having well in excess of a million video views, the various suppliers havent really picked up on the fact that it's a fantastic marketing tool and flooded me with review items, I think i've done videos on all my own kit now so really it's a shortage of material.

just thought, An engine crane, with two webbing straps would support all that weight well and give a fine control over decent of the top half of the mount.
