@Mediawatcher, did you pull your last post? You said: Neil Forbes you be going up hill. My answer to it was "That's *NOT* what I meant! The question was about *direction,* North, South, East or West. The answer to the question I posed was "South". You got the answer wrong. You failed my test."

Most of the corridor from Hamilton to Newcastle, 4km or so is being retained for public transport using both trains and light rail. Other sections are being turned into parks or road and pedestrian crossings. A University is proposed adjacent and about 300m of corridor will be built on for student accommodation. The old Newcastle Station is being restored externally until a decision has been decided for future use. There's only about a 200m section of corridor left to build anything else on

It was a sham deal done with the sham people involved. New South Wales state government and the developers of Newcastle. The government were found out that the deal was a sham and the deal fell through.

That's one place I won't be seen dead at! The absolute TREASON committed by the NSW State government in cutting our rail line is the reason I won't EVER use this interchange. If and when I travel to Sydney, my start and end point will ALWAYS be BROADMEADOW station.

Get over it, the 2km of line closed was redundant
@neilforbes4166 жыл бұрын
Terrence Owen: NO IT WAS NOT REDUNDANT! NOT AT ALL! You had the ferry across to Stockton just a short walk away, you were up to the east end of the city where the hospital still had services as well as access to a number of other services, and you did NOT have to get off one mode of transport and onto another to get there.
@thegreatdivide8256 жыл бұрын
It certainly was redundant, for well over 20 years and the passenger figures confirmed it by dropping every year. The hospital at Newcastle East has been gone for over a decade, there was a 600m walk in all weather from the Stockton Ferry to platform one of Newcastle Station, it now takes one minute to walk from the ferry to a waiting shuttle bus and from next year to the light rail.

The tram will be nothing but a "toy", a tourist joyride. It will run from near Stewart Avenue, east to Pacific Street or a bit beyond, no more. It will NOT go along Darby Street to Cooks Hill, it will NOT go any further west along Hunter Street toward Tudor Street(Hamilton, Broadmeadow and Lambton won't be served), It will NOT go across the bridge into Wickham, or onto Islington, Wickham or Mayfield. It will just run that short stretch from Stewart Avenue to Pacific Street along Hunter and Scott Streets....A TOY!

It is the heavy rail replacement service offering a better service for the CBD, its initial length is equivalent to the Sydney Light Rail when first introduced in 1997. Buses routes service Darby Street and Carrington , there is no need for a tram other than an extension to Broadmeadow Sports precinct which is under planning now
