Fun Fact: when the Montreal Canadiens were named, the word "Canadien" was primarily an ethnic identifier, not just a generic name for any Canadian. A "Canadien" was very specifically what we now might call a French Canadian or... Quebecois. At that time, naming the team the Club de hockey Canadien was the equivalent of naming a team the Sicilians or the Irish or something, and the team was founded specifically to serve the French community, because the Maroons were an explicitly English team.

As some one who is well versed in the Whalers/Hurricanes history this works so well! My only tweak is add the the shoulders the logo with the W and harpoon and the shoulders (at least in a version to match the jersey) and add lucky in the collar. You go those things and I would be looking to buy that jersey now!!! Fantastic job!

Also, the State of Texas (nicknamed "The Lone Star State") is the only state in the Union which, prior to being admitted as a state, in 1845, was a nation of its own. Thus, not the Rock Island Independents of the NFL and its proceeding leagues (1907 - '26), but the Texas Independents is very appropriate as a nickname. The City of Chicago's team ought to have been the Flames, in remembrance of the Chicago Fire of 1871. Montreal can forget about the Quebecois as can the Steel City their P.G. Wynnes (throw away in the trash)...bring back the Canadiens and the Hornets, respectively. Utah Rockies sounds plausible. San Diego Sea Lions, not so much. And lastly, the Motor City Thunder (Detroit) and the Carolina Flyers (Raleigh) sound awesome! Excellent work, Sergio.

Great video! I would LOVE it if my home state of Utah got an NHL team. Our market here already supports an NBA team (Jazz), and our minor league hockey team the Grizzlies does pretty well. I really liked the Ram logo for the Utah Rockies jersey in the video. However I'd personally go with a different name if Utah ever got an NHL team. Plus Colorado has their MLB team the Rockies basically next door, so might not want to steal their name. Maybe keep the cool Ram logo but call the team the Utah Clash (alt logo/shoulder patch with two rams butting heads) or, the Utah Charge (not Chargers, don't want to overlap with the football team), or The Utah Power, something like that to go with the Ram logo. Maybe The Utah Summit, or The Utah Peak. Both referring to the highest point or top of a mountain. I think I like Summit better personally, but both could still fit well with that Ram mascot/logo from the video. Or maybe something completely different. I kind of like the idea of the Utah Gulls (Seagull is the state bird) or maybe the Utah Deseret ( NOT "desert" like dry arid landscape ) Deseret (Pronounced Dez-er-et), the word basically means Honeybee, so the team logo could be a stylized beehive. Some might not like it because the name has some ties to the Mormon religion (Mormons settled the Salt Lake valley/Utah) but I really like it despite that connection. Utah is known for it's ski resorts in the winter and "the greatest snow on earth" so maybe a team name like The Freeze or The Blizzard could also work. Probably a pipe dream as the NHL coming to Utah is unlikely, but I can still dream. What do you all think of these names/team ideas for Utah?
