An interesting point I've seen made about the mid-2010s trend of mobile ports is that often they are the only way to get these mobile games in their original form given how many of these early marquee IOS titles get updated into FTP titles.

I too have made the same point! I bought a copy of Plants vs Zombies for the DS because the original mobile version has since been mutilated. The mobile ports have proved to be useful in hindsight for sure. Contemporaneously, they seemed a bit weird. Can’t complain overall though!

I just wanted to say, I really enjoy your videos and I find them both relaxing content to listen to as well as informative and interesting. I always have a lot on my mind, and am also quite shy, so i often struggle to comment (even though it's important to show appreciation!) but I have been watching you make videos since 2011 and they always make my day. I think it's also nice to just discuss video games and collecting as a hobby. I think it's interesting how my own approach has changed over time, where I have slowly figured out what I actually enjoy collecting and playing. It is a little bit frustrating that prices are spiking so much, but oh well. It is what it is. There are a lot of things from my childhood (Tamagotchi, for instance) that means a lot but has slowly climbed to kind of absurd prices. At least with KZbin, even if I can't own them physically I can watch other people giving tours and relive some of the nostalgia that way (even though collecting them would mean a lot). I only own about 60 3DS games but I have most of the titles I am interested in, which I am grateful for. Similar sized collection for the Vita and I also own most of what I want. DS, on the other hand, I didn't get to collect a HUGE chuck of games I wanted and now prices are a bit too high, so I have regrets over that. I do like the games I own, however, it is a nice personal collection.

I had no idea the Gravity Falls game was expensive. I bought that as a kid and dropped it after like 2 hours lol

lol yeah, it doesn’t seem like a valuable game, but the most valuable 3DS game is a Barbie game, so sometimes that’s how it goes!

Great pickups! Will be happy to see more 3DS vids in the future. I do have to say, Driver Renegade is one you can miss on actually playing. I popped it in to stream and it was so crass that I had to just pull the plug. That and the fact that it doesn't play all that impressively, it's a nah. Visually decent though!

3DS has become my main collecting focus lately as well. I owned one since 2011 but never really focused much on it, instead investing most of my time and money into the major home consoles of the past decade.

I really loved The Regular Show game and I’ve never seen the show it is just a great game. It will be on future hidden gems list when people figure out how fun it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are copies of Binding Of Isaac, Retro City Rampage and Shakedown Hawaii already sitting in a warehouse waiting to be sold. The developer of Retro City Rampage & Shakedown Hawaii already sat on Wii & Wii U copies to be the last game released for those systems.

You know, I was taking a look at games I'd like to round out a physical collection, and there's really only like...a handful. I'd be at 20 games and feel pretty done. That's just physically, though. But yeah, the eShop closing is definitely bringing a lot of people out. Fun to see people talking about it, bad for folks on a budget! I think nostalgia is hitting certain folks right about now. The 3DS was my college system, so there's getting to be a bit of that for me, since it's been about a decade. I don't think I'm nostalgic for many of the games, though. I find myself nostalgica for like...the UI, the menu music, and things like Street Pass (which can't exactly be revisited). You relating it to cultivating a garden via that Miyamoto (I think) quote. Made me go "You know what...yeah!" Lol

3DS ending really came quickly for me as I was, for a number of reasons, really checked out and stopped paying attention to gaming in about 2018. No one more qualified to chat about the 3DS in my eyes :D

Curious what shelves you are using to store your 3ds games. I like that they have a door so it doesn't require as much constant dusting.

Just found your channel and wanted to say I thought this was a great video! I agree with your point about collecting and gaming being a Venn diagram. Plenty of modern games make little sense to collect physically due to them being primarily online experiences. And plenty of games make for interesting collectibles due to their history or niche, etc. In regard to your comment on loose games, I think many people keep their games in travel cases so they can play their games more easily portably. And in that way, losing cases makes more sense. Some also like to collect specifically game cases and boxes, though I can’t imagine that being a substantial proportion of the collecting community. Regardless, your collection is awesome! Id love to see more of it.

I've never played fragrant story but it's length is a positive for me. My attention span gets increasingly shorter every year it seems so I welcome games that are short.

I've watched videos that showed that GameStop threw out the boxes for the 3DS games and other systems to save space, and I'm sure other game stores might have done that as well And you have to look at the fact that a lot of children play Nintendo DS and 3DS and it's easier to carry around the cartridges or buy a case that holds the cartridges and the system That's why when you look online and you see the prices of the games they're way more expensive complete inbox, because of how many are out there without the box & manual

GameStop store policy for DS/3DS stuff since like 2014 or so was to throw away the cases to save space, I'd guess that's why there are so many loose games floating around. Annoying that complete prices are inflated because GameStop had to make more space for Funko Pops and like, Dragonball socks.
@tvandlust

I'm starting to ramp up my 3DS collection at a faster rate now because everyone else seems to be hoping on it and it has me worried that the ones that I've been looking for for a long time are going to be incredibly pricey in the upcoming months lol But yeah I've seen way too many loose 3DS carts that there should be. I love having the box, it comes in one for a reason. About half my DS and 3DS collection is all loose carts.

I see a lot empty cases so im assuming resellers are starting to get more scummy and just selling the loose carts so they can sell the case separately.

I love the form factor of the 3DS. I debated whether or not to grab Hyrule Warriors on Switch or 3DS, and ultimately landed on 3DS because of how easy it is to pick up and play whenever I have the opportunity. I only have a handful of 3DS games remaining that I have yet to buy, but biting the bullet on Blazblue CIB isn't something I'm looking forward to. 😅
