I never quite understood what a baitfeeder reel does compared to a regular spinning reel?

It's for fishing with live bait or bait. The fish can pick up the bait and take off with it without feeling any pressure. You can set the drag to let out line as you'd like without having to leave your bail open. You have 2 drag systems, one that you use when fighting the fish, and another one that you use when you have it on the baitfeeder.

they've been unreal for ice fishing pike and walleye (the 1000 size, avengers good too) from our heated trailers, you hear when fish pick up the bait and start swimming and you get to fight them with drag on a rod instead of rattle reels etc. no going back, that 1000 ceymar is an ice fishing gem, worked awesome on lake trout up to 10 lbs in 100' of water with 10 lb braid also, use penn fierce 4's in larger sizes for other fishing duty including the 6000 for bank fishing lake sturgeon but 2500's good for bank fishing other species on lakes or rivers and even slip bobber fishing if you don't want to keep an eye on bobber you just flip the switch and you're covered...nothing will steal your rod until they spool you but you should wake up and hear the line going out at some point haha
