We were lucky enough to score a great old canner that we've been looking for for a long time. Will it work? That's the story. T-shirt by Lori Anne MacDonald / preciousartworksandprints www.preciousartworksandprints...

I like your cast iron hanging above your stove ! I have one just like this, the steam relief valve works just fine. You do not have to replace it with a petcock weighted one. I like this type better myself. I think the gauges also last a very long time. You can buy replacement parts if you need from All-American web page and if you ever need you can send them to top or the bottom for refurbishing. You should always use a grate or some sort of rack in the bottom to keep your jars from resting right on the bottom of the canner, as if your jars rest directly on the bottom of the canner they can break. Also when you tighten the lid you should tighten them in opposite sides, like 2 o'clock and 7 o'clock, 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock, like that to get an even tightening on the lid. A little white vinegar in your canner before your process your jars will help keep your jars from getting cloudy with mineral deposits.

I also have an older model All American with the toggle style regulator. How did you regulate the pressure? With the heat from stove top element or did you turn the collar on the toggle to let steam out at the correct amount to maintain the PSI required at your altitude? Find me the correct procedure for the toggle is difficult. Yours is the only video on KZbin that I can find that shows that toggle. Everyone else has the jiggle her‘s. I’m just wanting to know if I’m doing it correctly. I must run with it a lot before I decided to chance canning low acid foods. I’ve not had a problem just not sure if I’m doing it exactly as I’m supposed to. I too will probably upgrade to the juggler and get a new regulator because I have not spent a lot on the scanner. I have a really large one I only spent about $100 on. It was well used and quite old but it works like a champ! An All-American canner will last a lifetime. Anyways, any helpful hints would be helpful while I’m waiting on my new parts. If I can even get them anymore.

I got one just like it for 5 dollars, used it today canning green beans. I've used it for squash and beans this summer. I like not having the jiggle nor the seals. I tested it at high pressure for the over pressure vent every thing worked, before I used it. Had to do that outside just in case.

For anybody wondering why would this canner has flip valve instead of "jiggler" is because ...this man does not have a pressure cooker in his possession, he has an " autoclave", designed for sterilization, not canning, but of course, you can use it for canning, you just CANNOT walk away from it while you are using it because you have to not only make sure the pressure does not rise, BUT more importantly, you don't allow the pressure to DROP below what the recipe declares...if you EVER lose pressure below what the recipe says, you HAVE to start over.

Thanks, my sis and I are canning 50 pounds of carrots with potatoes. We had a hard time getting lid even to screw down. What's the normal time for canner to start steaming? It's been 40 min no steam All American 921. Today 4/6/24 great day in Iowa

Vaseline, why not Olive oil on the beveled edges/seal? Good find good price. I bought a 921 for $250 and is like brand new. Oh and your Tshirt , Sarah Conners, excellent.
@YoungSwimPro
Would you please explain the 40 min..did you count 40 other minutes after reaching 10 pounds of pressure?
