As much as i love oneup, 8.2° of engagement isn't the new benchmark. The feeling of hydra near instant engagement or onyx true instant engagement isn't gonna be beat by these. Tight engagement is hugely noticeable, hugely beneficial, and makes a bike feel tight and quiet (other than the hub buzz)
@MillerRL966 ай бұрын
Idk about hugely beneficial. Hugely marketed that’s for certain. If you can’t make it up a techy climb with 8.2 degrees engagement that’s a skill issue not a hub issue. More engagement more pedal kickback.
@G00s7-i3x6 ай бұрын
@@MillerRL96it’s not about whether or not you need it but whether it benefits you or not. Do you really have that much problems with pedal kickback? Have you actually used the higher engagement hubs?
@maplic6 ай бұрын
@@MillerRL96 0.52° vs 8.52° is noticeable, quite noticeable. Moreover, next to no engagement is so quiet. And a quiet bike is a quiet mind and a fast bike. If you don't appreciate a quiet bike, then maybe the higher engagement ain't for you. Not only does it make a noticeable difference on technical climbing, it makes a difference in preloading your rear suspension for jumping. Genuinely curious how the drive ring being machined into the shell, resulting in all that wear on 7075, will hold up over time. (Comparing, of course, to the steel that DT makes their threaded drive ring from). They look like a rad new hub set otherwise!
@zoranpl6 ай бұрын
That steel drive ring on Dt swiss is still threaded to Alu hub body...I assume that the endurance is similar..If the aluminum microspline does not have any problems with the cassette, I think this one will not have any problems either, it has a similar design, slightly deeper channels.
@jshemuel6 ай бұрын
@@zoranpl but the "wear" of threads tightening over time is not remotely the same as splines that intermittently engage and disengage under torque
@richardelsdon20276 ай бұрын
Dt ratchet ring is sprung on both sides. So the drive ring has to be steel as the ratchet ring slides back and forth in it during freewheeling. This looks like only the freehub side is sprung. Possible the alu could deform under load, but it looks pretty deep so even if it does, it shouldn’t affect anything.
@zoranpl6 ай бұрын
@@jshemuel I know the man who destroyed that thread on the dt swiss hub... first time I saw it in my life... He could just thrown it away. This system seems more durable to me... the material will have marks but it will still do the job

The only detail that worries me is the drive spline cut directly into the hub shell. There's a very good reason just about everyone else has a steel spline here. Aluminium doesn't take high surface pressures and having other parts sliding on it anything like as well. If the hub body is also 7075 (The freehub is 7075 according to the video, and it absolutely needs to be as anything softer will get chewed in no time by the cassette under any half way strong rider) and it's hard anodised it will still last longer than most people will ever need though. Otherwise the design looks very sensible. I'll be looking at these if the Pro4 Hopes I've already got ever give trouble that's not immediately covered on their warranty.

8.2 degrees is not a new benchmark. That's way too high, when there's hubs with as low as 2 degrees that exist. Also, machining the drive ring into the hub itself means that if it's going to fail, that's a hub replacement, instead of drive ring replacement.
