It was the first Opeth record I've heard. At that time, I didn't like clean vocals in metal, I was like 16. It was shortly before Deliverance/Damnation came out. They changed the way I looked at music and made my taste mature very quickly while still being a college kid.

At least in Opeths discog. Im very similar to Mike in that Im a big prog rock guy so most of my top 10 is progressive rock albums (though Opeth themselves never got to that perfect masterpiece tier in their progrock era. They came closest with Pale for my money)
@ZyborggianАй бұрын
@@Loudtvmetal Thats my top two as well. Though they're virtually tied with Watershed, & Hannes Grossmann's first solo record and Omnivium which he also wrote most of and did all of the song structures for. (Hannes is also a godtier prog death composer like Mike/former Necrophagist drummer)

The interview helped to clarify the main concept behind the album. I believe that with this album Opeth is turning back to confort zone,so it seemingly being simple music by using the oldest stragegy and formula from the past. It seems that Opeth is showing to us how the band has got achieve so far in terms of music evolution and development as band.They haven't missed out on making simple music despite the advancement progressivism their music has turned out right now.
@LoudtvmetalАй бұрын
Thank you but this new album is out of comfort zone. You ll need several listenings to digest the album
@diegodiniz-zw9fnАй бұрын
@Loudtvmetal I pointed out "comfort zone" in compare to what they've done so far.Then,they have experimented everything possible in extreme music they can.I wouldn't say it's such a very simplory music,but maybe lessen on merging more progressive elements into music,like they have approached constantly in their previous albums.

I gave it a listen and it was very boring and cheese for me. Its like they are recycling their music really sad to see this happening. I remember when Michael used to say he wants to make a new album and not the same stuff he used to. He used to say his integrity and authenticness matters. They should have just stop putting out albums I would respect that they are all rich already. I guess its not my business they can do whatever. This happens to every band over and over the same thing happens. They get rich and then they just milk their fans but they should just take a break if they cant make inspiring music.
