I remember going to a birthday party [20th] here in New Zealand in 1983 held at a duel soccer/hockey clubrooms one Saturday evening. I was already primed up on a few bevvies and had just burned a joint down with friends so was really looking forward to the party. After we entered and paid our respects to the birthday dude and friends we settled in nicely and listened to some usual music coming over the awesome sound system in the large room. THEN...everything changed...NEW ORDER and their hit BLUE MONDAY came over the sound system and almost everybody swinging on the dance floor deserted it [the dancefloor]. It was because the song was so unheard of before...raw, new, and so exciting to me. To me the song was so far ahead of its time it could almost be considered alien...I slowly cruised on to the dance floor with my stubbie of ale and jived away on it almost alone...but wow I have never forgotten that moment...I did my Billy Idol [dancing with myself] on many occasions at gigs. I'd given up asking girls to dance...and being refused constantly...then I couldn't have cared less. It was just NEW ORDER, BLUE MONDAY, myself, and my stubbie of ale. PARRRRRRRRRRRR TEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Yeah, I didn't go out dancing a lot, but when I did, every time the DJ put on New Order the dance floor emptied, and a few people who actually cared about music came running from all directions and took it over. The DJs clearly got it, but the general population just went "Uuuuh, this isn't bucks fizz".

@@RegebroRepairs Loved the final sentence bro..."Uuuuh, this isn't bucks fizz". Those earlier '80s created some contrasting music all right. After I cottoned on to New Order an acquaintance introduced me to Joy Division. I obviously heard 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' on radio but didn't know of their albums until I hit the record/cassette stores here in New Zealand. There wasn't any internet back then so trying to access any literature on Joy Division was like finding gold or blood from a stone. Didn't exist. Once I heard those 2 albums from Joy Division I was hooked line and sinker - just like Peter Hook the bass player. Joy Division simply blew people's minds over here in New Zealand. Many people I knew described their music as 'depressing' while I said it was 'real'. Some of it sounded haunting and so it should. Ian Curtis vocals were sublime and unique. But like a lot of pop music fans here in New Zealand, Joy Division just didn't feature on their radar because it hit at the very core of someone's soul and spirit. It wasn't surfacy bubble-gum-blowing music. It went way deeper than facade music.

Outstanding piece of music, it's timeless. Vinyl- still knocking other formats flat on their arse. I have a craftily modified Goldring Lenco GL75 idler drive deck hooked up to a Linn system- it's superb. It really digs the bass out........Punches harder than Henry Cooper's left hook!

I was born in 1953 and didn't discover New Order until 2012. And that was the classic Joy Division becomeing New Order. I'm so slow on the uptake sometimes. That vinyl looks PRISTINE. Nice record player. Thanks for sharing! The lyrics and music are deeper than even the band knew then for sure, otherwise it wouldn't have had the staying power.

It has the staying power. I was more of a Starship/James Taylor person at the time. But a friend who thought he was in a band helped to N.O., D.M. then The Cure. I've only seen The Cure in live. I am sorry I did not pick up quicker.... This song and the visual of the pulsing LP! God damn!!!!! I missed a lot.

Some technological differences and a complicated delivery... So this song is on your record. Sent thru the system to your system to your macbook. Uploaded here. Delivered wirelessly to my cellular device. At this point it is sent to my bluetooth receiver box which is connected to a Vacuum tube amplifier i made myself. And sent to a set of Radio Shack Nova 8 speakers and into my ears. ... A massive combo of tech from a span of what? 60 years? . So the main output tubes on this thing are from 1947-1949.

It's classic, was way ahead of its time and it never gets old! I was 19 years old at a club called 600 North here in Daytona Beach Florida, when it debuted most people left the dance floor because the club was mostly punk rock, but the DJ had been edging in some new wave, dark and upbeat synth in the past couple months. In those days most guys danced by themselves because we could not get girls to dance to the new stuff and I preferred guys over girls {nothing against the ladies}. I stayed on the floor, and we did our own dance moves to what the song brought out of our souls! The best years of my life! It was so fun!

Thanks for posting this! I had the original 12" issue of Blue Monday back in the 80's. I remember it even sounded damn good on the lower end Technics system I bought with my high school dish washing job money! I still have all that gear, maybe one day I'll set it back up and see if it still works.
