Although New Order are seen as a synthpop band, they took pride in playing live, varying setlists every night and frequently improvising. It's worth checking out live recordings of their songs just to see how varied the performances were. That said, they did originally conceive Blue Monday as an encore that a sequencer could play while the band was drinking in the dressing room. You see a remnant of that idea at the end of the video, when the music changes and everyone stops playing.

I was already 26 years old in 1983, but have very fond memories of dancing to this song (especially in gay clubs) in the early eighties in Alabama!

Yet another reason, while I love their music, I would never go out of my way to catch them live.
