New Order took what everyone was doing -- finding new catchy synth sounds and layering them over and over again -- and showed everyone how to do it right. So clean, such control!

@@TristouMTL and this was analog days. there were some songs from the time where, if you listened hard enough, you'd notice the cut. but they were done so painstakingly, it wouldn't jar you on the dance floor.

Huge on the radio too... Some people compares this kind of music to some nowadays eletronic music but they forget that this type of music was MAINSTREAM that era, not niche music. This played on the radio all the time in every where...
@chrismill5303 Жыл бұрын
in our country, it played in beach parties and barrio fiestas right up to the early 90s. it's nearly 7 min. long, but if radio ever had this song on, it's always this dance remix.

There’s just now way to properly convey what it was like when sounds, not genres, but actual sounds were new. Used differently. It just doesn’t happen anymore in that way. We were so lucky. 70s & 80s we’re crazy.

OMG! I’ve been waiting for you to get to this epic synthpop MASTERPIECE. My absolute favorite New Order song and quite possibly all time fave. Cannot wait to see them again, counting down to October 7, 2022 Hollywood Bowl - Unity Tour, New Order and Pet Shop Boys. You need to hear this song in a large venue, big cavernous space to fully appreciate the genius of all the sounds. Gillian Gilbert is the synth virtuoso in this track. Dive head first down the New Order rabbit hole and you’ll have the best experience in sound. If you like the synth work in this song they have a more recent track which is very synthy called “Plastic” which is very vey synth dance heaven. Also, Tutti Frutti another disco banger. The whole album “Technique” is worth exploring as well. Check out Round and Round and Fine Time as well.

I love your reaction to this, new order are one of my faves, the way they emerged from the ashes of joy division is amazing! I saw them a few years ago live do this and I teared up, there was a child on her dads shoulders next to me around 11 y/o and she knew it word for word, I turned to her dad and said “that’s good parenting pal”!

Great reaction Dereck. Here in Brazil it is almost mandatory to play this song in every disco and nightclub, Blue Monday and True Faith versions also understood from New Order. I love New Order and Pet Shop Boys. Derek will leave as a suggestion for you to react to the song Born Slippy from Underwood live at Glastonbury 2016. This song is theme from the movie Trainspotting. I'm sure you will love this sound. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYKqgJ-XrM5ppJI

One of my all time favorite songs. This is the first version I heard when I was 16, clumsy and shy (smiths reference there ha) back in 1988. I do love and prefer the original variations of it - the 1986 brotherhood and Best of ‘94 version due to the magical synth choir and epic real synth.

My teen life in the late 80's was so fun... pool parties, friends and neon everything and anything! New Order, OMD and Strange Advance were my favourites. Dancing to this song with my friends in the clubs was an absolute BLAST! Whenever Bizzare Love Triangle was played by the DJ, the whole club raced onto the floor. I met and made many friends on the dance floor; many of them are still a a part of my life to this day.

It was midsummer '87 when I first heard "Bizarre Love Triangle", my introduction to New Order. I was 13 and my 20-year-old big brother and I were watching some Geraldo Rivera special on T. V. about organized crime in America. During a party scene, there was this insanely catchy, synth-heavy song playing in the background. We both were so enthralled in that song that my bro went to the Sam Goody the next day and bought the 12-inch single of the song, " Bizarre Love Triangle". Not long after that, he bought " Substance", a flawless compilation of New Order singles going back to when they formed, following the tragic suicide of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis. My bro went to see New Order in '89, and I finally saw them in '05, in a great performance at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California. A lifelong love of New Order started with some Geraldo Rivera special!

Hi Derek, Peter Hook is the bassist and plays all the bass!! No synth. He’s the most amazing bassist, in my opinion. New Order is very different now that Peter has gone on his own (Peter Hook and The Light.) When the band formed after the death of Ian Curtis, (They were Joy Division then) it’s what kept me loving the band, Peter’s bass playing. He made the band 😊

"masterpiece" you got it right. By the way, the bass player, took the place of lead guitar, and the bass tended to set the rhythms - and the solos were bass as well - they set the standard.

they mixed synth with real instruments. There is a bass player Hooky, the drums to, he wanted the it to do the boring bits while he done the rest. They were a bit ahead of the curve on those issues.
