New Order always had a rocky guitar as well as a synth side. Sometimes they go one way, sometimes they go the other. This is one of my favourite New Order songs. This came out just before Low Life if I remember correctly. Sunrise from that album is wonderful in my opinion, as is Eligah. My later favourite is Crystal; they did a great version of that at Finsbury Park and on a Hooks Holland TV show.

I think this track more than any of the others demonstrate a real vocal skills and range of Bernard Sumner. I also really like the lyrics.

Peter Hook (Hooky) is the bassist and he always played the Bass like a guitar! Very iconic sound. So many great New Order Tracks. Things to Consider for future reactions: Temptation, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith, The Perfect Kiss, Regret, and Shell Shock. The Album SUBSTANCE was a great one!

They wrote Shellshock on the flight back from Japan and played it soon after they arrived home on “The Tube”. Brilliant as always

Peter Hook (bassist) has always claimed that he liked this song much more than Blue Monday. You should listen to Ceremony by New Order (Substance album)- it was one of Joy Division's last songs and New Orders first release. It would be interesting for you to hear that eventual transition from JD to NO.

No, definitely a good choice. It has that good blend of guitar, bass, drums in addition to the synths. and you can hear it all. How about stepping back a bit more to the Joy Division/New Order era with Temptation?

New Order are one of my fave bands, but sometimes lol at Bernard's trademark crap lyrics :D

Throw-away lyrics...some fans actually prefer the instrumental! New Order once said that some of their lyrics are meaningless and some are deep...but you'll never know which ones!!

Actually...the B-side to this is a far superior song: Lonesome Tonight is one of the best NO songs from that era.... mainly drums guitar and an amazing bassline....and half way through a beautiful thing happens....in come the synths. It works so well. Try it...
