I am a professional news/editorial photgrapher who's done some sports. The truth is that african-americans don't see photography as a job or revenue source. I;ve had this conversation with the few black photographers I know. In general, it is mostly a profession dominated by whites ad some asians. But that's not to say that black are specifically kept out. They just don't choose photography as a profession.

I'm not talking about wedding photographers. I don't do weddings. I shoot nothing but editorial, documentary and news. I shoot along side photographers from AP, Getty, Reuters, Washington Post, etc. every day. I know a few White House photogrpahers as well. By the way, out of a staff of 3, there is one black staff photographer at the White House.

There are plenty of Black people trying to make a living as wedding and modelling shooters. What circles do you travel in!?

I'm not naive sir. I'm 45 years old. I own $32,000 worth of still camera gear and I've covered people from our mayor to President Obama, social issues and news. You don't have to tell me what I see every day. There is a lack of black photographers, not arguing that point. The question is why? How many high school kids do you know who aspire to be photographers? That's my point. Check out my photos.. media-images.us The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation is one of my clients.

Are you just making conversation or you really don't understand the "Double Standard" in a racist and bias America. I see this as a extremely naive statement. I have friends in the film industry and the absents of Blacks in media has nothing to do with not see this as a potential income. You are discouraged and denied admission in news agencies, sports, AP, etc. Go to any of those and count on one have the number of BLACK Photographers.
