George, what is that concept you were referring to in regards to responsibility and work ethic? I accept, I take, I am willing... this sounds revolutionary! Who knows, you might start something with all that radical talk 🫨 But, let's be rational, George, you know that it's somebody else's fault, that you are a victim and do not need to accept blame or responsibility. 😉

I have admired your work for some time now, especially your wiring. I have a 2021 Coachman Beyond 22C, wires change colors between points, labels do not exist. I found this out when I did an upgrade to 540 Ah or Lithium. My only other big modification was a Q-lift and 30 inch tires. You are the first builder I have seen who stood up and said this problem is on me. I have much admiration for you doing this. I know other builder would not have. Looking forward to She to me's build and what you do with their Ford Transit. GREAT WORK.

George, I really like the security door option. Regarding the added security lights, one switch for each side, whether one or two lights are on each side. It would be better, if possible, to have 2 lights on both sides, as well as a front and back optional units. Regarding contact adhesives, they usually work best when both surfaces are sprayed and each dries before mating them together. I don't know the specific instructions for the green-can 3M spray product. As always, great work. Bob B.

I wonder if the 3M 90 was a problem because of the vinyl? I have seen professional builders using it to attach fabric to the panels and to the metal frame for several years now with no reports of failures. I am close to applying fabric and now rethinking the use of the 3M 90 I purchased for it. Thoughts?

Would love to know more about the 8020 bulkhead. It would be nice to see a view from the cab looking back. Also, what series did you use for the bulkhead (10, 15, 25, 30 series)? How do you handle the 3rd panel (the panel behind the driver when the 2 door panels are slid completely closed on the mid and passenger sections)? Thanks for such great content and amazing designs!..

I used 10 series. There is no need for a third panel as the armoire acts as the third panel.

@@HumbleRoad I was looking at doing something like this with 10 series with a combo of 1010, 1030 and 2059 glides. I was going to design it similar to a 3/4 oak plywood sliding partition I had in my other Promaster, but I haven't had a chance to design and build it yet. It's really nice to see one already built.

George, I see a potential market demand for a heavy duty screen door, mounted where the side sliding door is located. This screen would deter intruders and keep pets in while allowing some fresh air in. All of the Class B vans except one (Class B-VAN by Fleetwood RV, the 2024 Xcursion SL2E on 24' Sprinter) seem to have flimsy screen doors. Is this something you could fabricate?
@asnormal1362

I imagine a combo of panel materials could fill a variety of needs - security, privacy, light management, visibility, containment, etc.. It will be interesting to see where George takes this feature!

Good on you for standing behind your work! Respectfully, the sliding door looks unfinished and out of sync with the rest of the interior. Why not add some thin panels to cover the 8020 frame? Also won’t the abs rattle while driving?
@HumbleRoad
@HumbleRoad 5 ай бұрын
The ABS panels are siliconed in place precisely so they do not rattle. To cover the 8020 is sacrilegious! We celebrate the inclusion of 8020 in all our designs. I see, however, it is not for everyone.

Other ideas for simple security. High powered LED strobes over entry points. Someone tries to get in, they get to see the light. High pitched shrieker speaker. Basically something loud, high pitched, painful, but won't actually hurt anyone. Stink sprayer. Seriously, a stink sprayer at about hip height, and most potential intruders will nope out but it's not enough of a threat people will generally pull a weapon.

Curious why you always use 8020, even for low load bearing uses such as the sliding door. Why do you not use 2020 for things like that? I built my entire van using 2020 and it is very capable except for long runs of heavy load bearing where no support can be provided. It gives only 0.043 inches deflection at 24” span under 250# load.

Interesting question Gary. There's a lot to be said for the saying, "The strength of a chain is determined by its weakest link". In general I think the strength of the materials used in a van build would need to consider multiple aspects such as: Use (occasional vacationing or full time living long-term), Travel (off-roading or flat road), Components (5 gal water jug or 40 gal tanks), etc. Also to be considered is Inventory (material for a single self-build or for multiple vans), Build Type (repeated stock or custom builds), etc..In short, I see the answer as, ' it depends . . . '
@GaryNichols50

Generally , camper vans have an additional heating source for the living area. That can even include under floor heating (luxury, mmmmm warm toes : ). That being said, I imagine a s-steel mesh panel (or other material) could be substituted for some of the white ones on the bulkhead security door if more air circulation is needed.

Having to redo all this original manufacturing is unacceptable! Manufacturers getting a deal on the most inexpensive products to build RV'S, vans, trailers, 5th wheels, etc., should just instead use the best money can buy (you'd think that it was when you look at that sticker price). Seriously, substituting cheap cans of 3M versus automotive adhesive! These shoddy pieces of American work are being passed off as quality just by how bright and shiny everything looks on the inside. But once out on the road, everything inside and out, falls apart! What's commercialism come to? It used to mean something else. The customer came first. When exactly did it start to turn the other way around?🤔 I think collectively we know.
