Know Before you buy 2025 Ram ProMaster

If you're wondering about the roof rack T mounts. The extra high roof models don't have them, the regular and high roof models have them. I guess RAM (Fiat) figured that it was so high up that no one would want a roof rack. I have a 2023 Promaster 159 high roof, same color as yours and fully loaded. I have traveled around western half the US without any issues. This is my second Promaster and I've never had issues with either of them. The key to success of these vehicles is to keep up on all preventative maintenance and perform monthly inspections, cleaning and retorqueing. My 2nd Promaster, a 2017 136 low roof has over 150K on it and the engine compartment and underside of the vehicle looks cleaner than a new vehicle and it runs great. If you take care of them and drive them properly, these vehicles will go for over 500k without any major issues. It also helps if you do your own maintenance and repairs. Also, as far as the transmission, I wouldn't worry about it on yours. The new ZF 9 speed in your Promaster (introduced in 2022) is so much better than the 62TE that you should never have any major issues with it.

How did you Insure the van? Is the van considered a commercial vehicle? I have heard that you have to go to the DMV and change the registration in Oregon. Did you have to do that in your state?

In Texas I did not have to go to the DMV to change anything. The insurance company told me that as long as I had a bed and refrigerator and took pictures of it that was good enough. It is considered a commercial vehicle and that caused a lot of extra hassle but it all worked out well in the end. I just did a video and loaded it so you could get more information.

Yes I have seen that that has been a problem. I am hoping they have fixed whatever the problem is in the new 2025. It will be very disappointing if the transmission goes out. I do have an extended warranty but I hate to go through that hassle.

When you take the headliner off inspect the running lights for good seal. Also the rear running lights can be loose too. I have factory swivels and they kinda suck for a couple of reasons so I think you're better off with aftermarket. My front door latch cables were not installed well so if you take the front door panels off inspect those also because they ended up fraying breaking.

I also recommend checking the torque on the wheels once you find the key as they can be way tight. I also could not get the wheels off after I took the lugs out the first time I tried to rotate tires. Not sure why they were stuck but they were a pain to dismount. If I had been on the side of the road trying to change a flat I would have never been able to do it.

Thanks, that is good to know. I did take the headliner off today and checked the lights. I found another clip that was not secured as it should be. I thoroughly insulated that area before putting the headliner back on. My biggest challenge now is figuring out how to put a roof rack on. This high roof does not come with any type of t- mount on the roof. I am enjoying the process of working on this van. I don't have a lot of free time so it will be a slow process but I'm hoping to have it done at least good enough for us to go camping in the next 3 months.

The biggest mistake I see in these builds is people don't pay attention to what they are using. Don't go to home depot and buy wood, it's going to be too heavy. Get RV wood products, for instance paneling. RV panels have foam as part of their layers, so they are strong but lighter. Use Rive nuts to mount everything. That way you can remove panels and such to make repairs in the future. Is this a diesel? Get diesel heaters, water, air. Save your electricity for things that have to be electric.

I do not regret buying it but there have been several things that I have found that were not done correctly. I have owned two Dodge Ram trucks and was very satisfied with both of them so I'm hoping this will be a good vehicle.

It is a V6 I have only had it a few weeks but it seems like it has plenty of power to get around as needed. So far it looks like the gas mileage is averaging about 16 M P G

I have a 2017 high roof extended with 52k. Absolutely no problems. Change engine oil every 4k.

The van has an alternator for charging why do you need solar panels? Huge waste of money if you ask me.

I have thought a lot about it but because we want to camp in the same spot for several days at a time off grid I think it will be beneficial. I'm not sure if the alternator would charge the batteries up enough just sitting idling. I am still considering what direction I'm going to go with all of my electric components.

I camp in a 2017 HT extended Promaster. I often stay in one place for 1-3 weeks. i have 650 watts of solar and a dc to dc charger as well, to charge 400 amp hours of lithium. Trips to the grocery store will not charge my batteries enough. I guess if you plan to drive every day or two for at least a couple of hours, alternator charge is enough. Also, big dc to dc chargers can prematurely wear out an alternator pretty fast, especially using more than 80 amps.
