One method to cap the open ended pipe is to tear off part of a cement bag, wad it up and stuff it in a few inches. Once done, pour/trowel in some wet cement and trowel a crown.

Greetings from Colorado. Your great grandkids will appreciate your permanent fencing. I built many of those corner posts on our farm years ago, many are still in use today. Cutting the pipe to fit definitely has a learning curve, you will get better and quicker the more you do it. This brings back many memories thanks for sharing it with us.

That's 2 3/8" upset tubing... I've used that from our Oil Patch for exactly what you're doing... The only suggestion I have for you is make sure you cap all the posts... The wasps and yellow jackets love those for taking up residence. Once put my hand over one and felt a massive buzzing against my hand... luckily I was still in descent enough shape to escape the attack of their fury

@@chrisbaumer3364 We dipped our CLEAN soup cans in OSPHO to prevent rusting. Underwater welders use OSPHO to treat steel going beneath salt water. Did 120 cans 13 or 14 years ago and still not rust. Although they have been painted at least five times.

Instead of capping your pipes to keep water and wasps out we used cans of SPRAY FOAM ....a good squirt and after it hardens you can slice it off flush with top and it takes paint. I used it on our clothes line poles and fence posts 15 years ago and it is still there and water tite.

Need cap or something to keep the water out. You probably already thought of that and just haven’t told us. A lot of work for a fence but should last you lifetime. It may or may not happened but think about how to replace some on the road side just in case there would be an accident and take out some pipes. Keep up the good work

I would suggest you raise the concrete to above the ground level. We have steel pipes for our back deck over our daylighted basement. One day I notices that the pipes had begun to rust thru at the bottom where the concrete was at ground level, the 2 posts that were on a concrete pad didn't rust. I had to have someone jack the deck up and put a cardboard form around the pipe and fill the form with concrete. No rust since.

Next time use mason string to line up your posts. You can easily move it about and then mark your holes. It stretches tight over fairly long distances and is fine except for very windy days.

Once you cope your first pipe and get the correct shape to match the upright post. Use a file folder or piece of cardstock and roll it over the od of the pipe and trace inside to give you a line. Then remove the file folder and use scissors to cut the line. Then wrap and use welders chalk to lay out your cut. Then plasma torch along the chalk line.

The correct way to brace a fence: Between the 1st and 2nd posts you put a horizontal brace; you also put a diagonal brace from the bottom of the 1st post to the underside of the horizontal post, where it attaches to the 2nd post; done.

For those of you that cannot weld in the field (not having access to a portable welder or dry conditions that could start a field fire) there is a product called Bullet Fence System brace kits that works with the oil field pipes. I don’t have a financial incentive just passing it along in case others want to use oil field pipes but don’t have access to a welder. I have always used wooden post for the corners and t-post (like you have used in the past). Looks great so far.

Good idea to keep that twisted copper phone line intact from the road. It can still handle up to a Gb or more of data depending on distance to home. The older line you dug up was not twisted and so was not capable of high speeds.

Good luck with 811. My driveway is 1/2 mile long and has 3 total houses on it. 811 told me they are not allowed to come any further than 18 ft off the main road. The second time they came out to mark where my electric gate was going, they marked in completely different locations from the first time. Funny thing is where both teams marked, they missed an actual gas line location by 7 ft. Not 7 inches, 7 ft. Luckly the cable installer located the area for me on his day off. Found everything in about 45 minutes. (Thanks, Cableman Greg). Anyway, keep up the good work Evan. Love the videos.

I have a couple of tip to extend the life of the fence. It is important to cover the top of the pipe. The easy and cheap way is to stuff a wad of newspaper or old cloth down the pipe so the top of the wad is about six to eight inches below the top of the pipe. Then, fill the top with redi mix concrete and make a cone of concrete so the water will roll off the top. It is also important to go back and add a cone of contrate at the base so the water won't stand there and rust out the pipe. Also, paint the pipe with a mitten and really slater it on thick. Finally, except for corner posts that will have side stress that need to be used quickly, you can actually dump dry red-mix in the hole around the pipe and the moisture will absorb into the concrete and harden around the pipe.

You should put marking stones outside the fence right above the waterline. In the future it would be very easy to find were the pipe runs.

You did it great Evan, your fence lines look straight ! My dad and I put in steel pipe for our corner posts in concrete on our dairy farm pastures to keep posts from shifting or pulling up.when I was a teenager and we used metal T-posts along the fence line. You are right in that they should last your lifetime and won't pull out of the ground unless someone pushes them over or pulls them out of the ground. We used large diameter pipe in concrete for our gate posts to support the weight of the gates. Might be a good idea to paint the pipe (white or black) so they don't rust over time.

one tiny lil thing you might want to do is cap the tops of the pipes so water can't get inside and freeze and bust your nice fence posts and concrete

If you aren't going to cap the vertical posts, then you will need to put a couple of weep holes near the very bottom of the posts for drainage inside the posts to help prevent rusting faster. The gravel at bottom was a good idea too!

I had to call in an emergency dig through 811 for our church to fix the drain for our basement it was a whole ordeal talking to the person trying to tell them where we were going to dig and where our church was located in the middle of town I couldn’t imagine trying to get it called in as far out as you live in the country
