I've had my eye on this pen and nib for a couple weeks now and I'm so happy to see a fellow left-hander review it. It's getting very hard to resist the urge to get it for myself now. Thanks for the review!

I know, right! I wish that Esties went on sale once in a while, and adding the custom grind price on top pushed it over my pen budget for a long while 😂 It does seem like a quality build so far though, I love the 'keep wet' cap liner, and I find myself reaching for this pen mostly because of Journaler nib so no regrets! Thanks for watching :)

Gorgeous pen. My first Esterbrook Estie also has the Journaler nib. Lovely ink choice. Love the fabulous shading!

Aww, I'm so glad you were able to save up and wait for the one you wanted!! The second you showed the swatch of the ink you picked, I was really hoping that's what you'd choose! I love the Journaler nib more than stubs as well, even if it is kind of stubby in it's own way. It's a great nib! and thank you for the mention!

I was so excited when I got the in-stock email alert! I am sure they will get more in at a later date too, but I think the silver trim version is discontinued, so I was worried the gold one might end too! Thanks for letting me try your journalers nib out; it totally gave me something to look forward to getting 💕💕

I just adore my Journaler nibs. I had Gena grind me one on my TWSBI 580 and I have another on my Esterbrook Goldrush. They’re such a dream to work with 🥰

@@jannahlyon yeah! I had an appointment with her at the St. Louis Pen show and handed her my favorite Prussian Blue 😍 I have it with me everywhere! She will put the Journaler grind on any nib. She is so lovely to meet.

Thanks for this! Fellow leftie and I've wondered about custom grinds and specifically the ones through Esterbrook!

Best of luck; it looks like a marvelous pen and custom grind nib. I’ve bought two FPNib custom grind #6 for my Estie. They’re like having a new pen(s).

There’s something about a special grind of a stub nib that really gets my attention. The stub nib on the Raven gives my handwriting a lot of character.

🎉 congrats on the new pen. I just got my first Estie today at Yoseka Stationery and it’s also tortoise shell and so very lovely. The journaler nib is so sweet but the 1.1 stub won me over. But I’m glad I can switch out the nib. Thanks for demonstrating that! Enjoy!

Congrats on your new pen too! I have not tried the stub nib, do you have other pens that use a stub too, I have heard that some are smoother than others when it comes to the rounding on the edges?

@@jannahlyon nope this is my first 1.1 stub nib and it feels so smooth. Happy writing!

I always love seeing left handers who have such clean and beautiful handwriting it is just so artful. I tried this nib recently it was very nice--a little out of my price range so am getting a similar grind from a local nibmiester.
@jannahlyon Жыл бұрын
Oh, thanks so much 😊. I agree that custom nibs are definitely an investment. I am excited to hear that you are able to source a local nibmeister to get a grind that will work for you, hopefully you can even try it out along the way so that it really is tailored to your writing style!
@mrdcoolblue Жыл бұрын
I’m left-handed too and always worry how the writing experience differs. But def don’t let that scare you away from custom grinds. If you can, I recommend working with a nibmeister in person, at a pen show or if they do events at a local stationery store. They can help you observe your pen grip and work with you to get the nib to your perfect writing experience

Totally seems like the way to go - I remember that a couple of fellow creators were getting custom grinds at the SF pen show for the pens - I was not really educated enough on this, nor did I own any pens that I thought could use a custom grind at the time, but this is definitely something for me to think about budgeting for this year! Another viewer (@charisexplores) also mentioned that she got a Journaler grind on her TWSBI which sounds like such a great idea to me!

If I had not already ordered an Estie myself, this video would have sold me. I have to wait to order the journaler nib because they are out of stock at the moment but I will have one and the is on my wish list for next year. Thanks for sharing.

I am still in love with this pen and the journaler nib - I also love that you can switch it out with any other Jowo housing #6 nib, which means I can put my journaler on some of my bespoke pens and vice versa! Thanks for watching :)

I've been researching and debating for a different nib in regards to cursive writing and being a lefty. I don't like stubs and after watching your video today I will look more closely at the "Journaler" nib. Good choice of ink btw.

I was looking at this exact pen/color/nib when it first became available. Looks awesome and the nib makes your writing pop even more! Unfortunately I moved from medium-ish nibs to Japanese fine(mostly Sailor 21k), as my writing is a bit smaller. Might have to put this back on my short list though. Thanks for the review.
@jannahlyon Жыл бұрын
It is an awesome combo, definitely a juicy alternative to a regular medium! I also started off with medium nibs and thought I would never want to write with a fine - and extra fine was totally out of the question!! But now I really do appreciate the finer writers too, especially when writing in smaller grids as they do give better legibility and make me slow down my writing for some reason. I would say there is room enough in my heart for all the sizes, and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed testing out the finer Sailor nibs when I went to SF Pen show last year!
