My L2K EF also has an architect quality to it out of the box. I was very pleasantly surprised. Welcome to the club of “oh, THIS is what everyone means when they say they love this pen!” I cannot write with it in winter because of the cold metal section, but I love it in summer! Thanks for sharing! 🤘🏼😸🧡🖋

I first bought the L2K with a broad nib, it was smooth but awful to write with. hated how it made my writing look. it was like writing with a crayola marker! Ended up loaning it to my mom whos penmanship it worked well with until i could buy nib replacements. FF 6mo later and didnt have the heart to take it from her since she loved it so much.. so i gifted it to her.. her first gold nib pen 😍 i waited forever for that sale to come back around this summer and bought an EF, and now i love the L2k. its all in finding the right nib.

Hooray! Welcome to the Lamy 2K club! I absolutely love mine with a fine nib. I purchased it from Papier Plume in May when I visited New Orleans. It's frequently in my rotation. I don't know why it took me so long to get it because I can't ever imagine it not being in my collection! Hope you continue to love and enjoy yours!

I got mine for around 50 on ebay because it was vintage from the 60s and had a broken cab and a slightly misaligned nib. After a little repair and no restoration at all, this is the best pen i ever had

@IKucheINtortIE

@@dahak972 Seems like this is not covered by the warranty and the vintage cap with the missing brand and the "made in west germany" imprint would be replaced by a modern cap and i dont want that. I want this pen to carry its age marks proudly as it is not leaking and the nib works like new. So basically i would pay for the pen to lose its character

I have one, which I ordered with a medium nib. I was pretty new in the hobby and did not realize a medium in one brand is not necessarily the same in another. It wrote like a broad, and I wasn't a fan. Finally bought a fine nib for it. (Endless Pens is still selling them for $68.) Now ots my favorite pen! It glides over the paper.

Sorry for being that late - a Lamy 200 in EF is my first gold nib pen. Since getting it, I also acquired two Platinum 3776 pens (a limited edition in F, and another regular one in UEF), as well as a Sailor Pro Gear Slim in F. I still see the Lamy 200 as my workhorse for everyday journaling and note taking, while i use the two F nibs for writing letters, and the UEF for my Hobonichi Weeks.

I’m so happy for your new pen purchase. My Lamy 2000 was my birthday pen last July and I still love it. I have a fine nib and I def see that architect look to it, I love it. My first inking was Robert Oster’s River of fire…oh, perfection. I notice that I seem to prefer red inks in my black pens and green inks in my burgundy pens. This one just begged for that special green. It’s def one of my favorite pens in my collection. I own mostly vintage pens and this pen beautifully skirts that line between vintage unique and modern art piece. Being an art nerd, the bauhaus art movement is near and dear to my heart. The first time I saw this pen it truly took my breath away. It was my first grail pen and I still love him dearly. The writing experience is one of the best I’ve ever experienced and I highly recommend it to anyone that will listen. It has a unique feel to it that puts it in a class of its own.

Your comparisons are an excellent detailed comparison of sizes. As you have mentioned, it is a better idea to flush the pen out before inking it up for the first time, especially with Lamy because they test the nib before it is sent out, so there is usually blue ink residue in the feed. Both of my Lamys had that residue. I have the 2000 Stainless Steel version with an oblique medium. I LIKE it. It is a phenomenal pen. The steel version is a heavier and I think looks cooler than the makralon, but yes that makralon feel is interesting. I don't like the makralon because after years the finish gets shiny in some spots and stays matte in others, so it becomes inconsistent in it's appearance. I know I will be buying replacement nibs for this pen, because I feel that is one thing that brings a lot of value to the 2000. I won't get another though, because why buy another pen when I can get the replacement nibs, and I get it from M-OBB. It's hard to find a person who doesn't like the 2000, and I hope it brings you years of writing pleasure.

Thank you so much! I'm still trying to find what I would want to know about a fountain pen and then have the correct terminology when talking about it. I don't necessarily appreciate heavier pens, so I'm sure the steel version wouldn't be for me. But it sure looks great.

I am like the only person who cant stand the feel of that pen in my hand I touched one at the pen club and immediately put it back down it left a weird impression I do not like ... plus it doesn't have a finger sliding stop like thats got to be difficult to write with sliding down the grip section ... maybe I'm wrong you'll have to let us know. Great review Keep up the good work

Your fingers won't slid down. I have the stainless steel version, but because it's brushed steel, there is some texture to the pen. A shiny chrome section get slippery. It's the reason I didn't buy a regular Lamy Studio, and bought the Studio Lx version instead.

Yay, you got it ! ❤ I have the same impression with my EF nib - the side strokes look thicker than the down strokes. On the other hand, the B nib has a broader down stroke… would I call it a stub nib ? Probably not. :) It’s a classic and the design is just flawless. If you ever take it apart, don’t lose that little metal ring or the cap won’t close anymore. :) Have fun !

Many of the German manufacturer's broad nibs are in fact stub nibs. Pelikan, Montblanc and Lamy gold nibs have no stub, because the broad is their stub nib. No surprize really because the mediums on those pens write like broad anyways.

Excellent review and perfect timing, I ordered a Lamy 2000 yesterday in the Black Friday Sale :-) Funnily enough this pen wasn't even on my list until I tried a Jinhao 80 over the last few days. I had low expectations but the Jinhao was super comfortable and the stock Fine nib a great juicy writer. Well, I thought if a copy is this good I've got to try the original. So the Lamy 2000 is on its way with a BB nib (my preference is for broader nibs). I will try to remember to flush the pen first though! Thanks again for the great review, and I look forward to hearing how you get on with this pen.

@ironmic9244

@@DrTommyDDS That was going to be the next option to open the tines a bit. As for the nubs on the side, unscrew the section, and then rescrew from a different position. The nubs are on the barrel right, not the section. At least that is what I just did on the steel version when those nubs were in my way.

You and other Lamy 2000 reviwers are going to kill me. My b-day is in 30 days. I wanted to buy a pen for myself. I am torn between at least 25 pens, ranging from 25 to 300+ dollars. I like this Lamy 2000, but I've heard from many reviwers that even though writting is smooth the EF nib is not that fine. It's more like a Medium. And that is killing me. Are they wrong?
@seemownay
@seemownay 9 ай бұрын
No, they are definitely not wrong. It's not as fine as let's say japanese nibs. They are much finer. I actually did not enjoy the EF nib and sized up to an F nib which I enjoy so much more. I would say it depends on the use case you have for the pen and the writing style you have. I shared the Lamy in my November Currently Inked - check that out if you're interested how it writes with a fine nib.

I don't own a Lamy 2000 and it's not on my list. I am just not at all attracted to black pens. As much as it would probably be a nice writing experience...if I am not attracted to a pen, I know I would rarely choose it and it's much too expensive of a pen to sit in a pen case.

Have you seen the steel version? I find it very, very cool. Despite all the great things I had heard of the 2000 I was never going to get it. I am not averse to black pens, but the makralon was just too something I can't explain. I also don't like how the makralon becomes shiny in spots as it ages. But when I saw the steel version, I wanted it, got it, and writes very well. It reminds me of a great white shark.

I'm not attracted to black pens either but I am making an exception for this pen because of the design. In my opinion it looks best in black. I'm not always choosing my pens by color but also by the ink in the pen and the nib. So when I'm choosing it when it's inked that's a deciding factor for me as well.
@ironmic9244
@ironmic9244 Жыл бұрын
@@beccacarrillo That is fair. It is quite a bit more than the makralon version. Is it worth the extra cost? I don't know, but I can say this, it writes very well. I wanted a 2000 just not the makralon. There are 2 other colors, actually 3. No wait 4. The Black Amber, the Bauhaus Blue, and a Brown. All are limited anniversary editions, so if you are willing to pay for the steel, don't know if you'd pay for the others. The last one is a Red one. But only 1 was made. So there's a history of the colors of the 2000. 😀
