Smallmouth bass are amazing predators. They thrive across the country in cold and warm water alike. These bronzebacks are incredible fighters and feed aggressively, even in the coldest of water. Keep an eye on the channel as there is an entire series of smallmouth videos coming soon!
Tim used the Matt Allen swimbait head paired with a keitech to create a unique rocking action that these bass had never seen before. We were getting bit on nearly every cast when the big one made her mistake. Smallmouth, like most bass is prone to schooling. By triggering the smaller bass we were able to fire up the school and get this giant to make a mistake.

Man what a roller coaster video. Went from grinning ear-to-ear to the shock of utter disappointment from the loss of a boat!! Don't let it get you down Tim you are the man of the hour and the boat accident was, well just an accident. I know has the guy with the big fish you sometimes feel responsible for the events of the trip. Chin up mate and tell me on another video how great that fish felt. Thanks Brother! Tim will speak his mind. This was such a difficult video because there was so much good on the heals of so much bad. We wanted to honor what really happened while still sharing the great experience with everyone. That wreck was a shock for sure... we'll tell that story at some point. On a map it wasn't bad but in reality it was 12 hours and over 100 miles of dirt road through the night pulling the boat trailer to locate them while it was raining in the 40's. Its a miracle it all worked out but everyone is good to go!

Great fish, Tim! I caught a 7 1/2 at Dale Hollow 31 years ago and have been fishing there every since and have never caught one over 6 lbs. Your's is truly a fish of a lifetime! Congratulations!

i had a similar experience with my pb 8lb smallmouth. I was sitting offshore after our boat motor died and i decided to fish and I nearly had my arm ripped off when that bass hit. love when people have these experiences

Totaled my Ranger this summer , made me sick had to be a log really scary when than BOOM Happens and the water is pouring in. Just glad that I Installed a second bilge pump . That made it possible to make it back to the dock . Then get there and had flat on trailer . What a DAY . Oh was also fishing smallies .

Hey Guys I am glad everyone was ok. Unfortunately your friends boat was totaled but Thank God there ok. Your point about life jackets is so on point. I was taking my son and a friend one junk fishing and I made them where there Life jacks and button down all the rods. Well at 60 miles an hour we crossed a ski boat wake and my steering pin sheered off. The boat 180d and stopped dead. My son went in the water and so did his friend. I was slammed against the inside but we where all ok. Lesson learned to always, Always have your Life vest on. God bless you guys for your hard work as always. Keep the vids coming.

I gotcha, If ya don't mind. Keep my interest in the #'s in the back of your head. I'd love to know. I've been in the 24" realm a few times. But don't generally weigh them. The truly big girls I do my best to keep them in the water.....Caught flack from the innernets when I posted about a 25x 19.5 record class fish because i didn't "weigh" it lol Beautiful catch. There's nothing like going on a road trip and getting away from California to have a chance at a monster smallmouth. That scale looked a little lite. That sure looks heavier than 7 pounds. My brother and I have caught multiple 6 1/2 and two 7 pound smallmouth in our lifetime. Very happy to hear that your friends are OK. We have seen monster problems over the years on the Hudson river with floating logs and underwater debris for other anglers. Last August, I was up at a small lake in Vermont. First cast of the day, I made a perfect cast and threw my spinnerbait right under a fallen tree and got a bite. It didn't feel that big at first, thought it was the same 10 incher I caught the prior day as it swam towards me for a while. Ended up being a near 2 ft. long smallie. DIdn't have a scale, but it was my elbow bone to middle finger plus a good 5" and at least as fat as this guy. I'm estimating 6lbs on this guy, but there's a chance it could have been a state record. Largest bass I've ever caught, smallmouth or largemouth. I'd love to catch one like this though!
